Christmas Fun

I have:
Dream Hat
Dream Hat +1
Windurst Tree
Sand'Oria Tree
Bastok Tree

Quest #1

Notes: Need 4 open Inventory Slots
1) Talk to Moogle in South San d'Oria/Bastok Markets/Windurst Waters. He will tell you to about 3 kids and in what zone they are in.(this is random and different for most) Once you find a kid he/she will give you a Letter, Write down the Name of the kid with the name of the letter.
2) Take the three letter to the 'Smilegiver' He/She is located in (D-9)North San d'Oria/(F-5)Windurst Waters/(I-9)Bastok Mines. He/She has a Red Hat. Trade him/her the Three letters and tell him/her the correct name for each letter.
3) You get a Ex Kiddie Present. And if you gave the correct names you will get a Dream hat.

After you get the hat and trade the Ex present to a kid, if you talk to the Moogle you will be able to Teleport to the other 2 cities. To teleport from a different city you have to have at least traded 1 Ex gift from the smilegiver of that town.(this might reset every game day)
With the Hat on you can trade presents to the kids.
You can only get 1 Ex Gift per game day.

Quest #2

Notes: Need 2 open Inventory Slots. You can get all 3 trees but it takes 3 game days since you can only do 1 quest per day.
1) Go to Port San d'Oria/Port Windurst/Port Bastok. Talk to Farmaoquaix(G-6)(Sandy)/Tree Talker(K-7)(Bastok)/Rhi Perejha(B-5)(Windy) and he/she will ask you to get supplies from a Market Moogle.(this is random and different for most)
2) Talk to that Market Moogle and you will get the supplies. If you take too long to return you may have to do more then one run to a Market Moogle.(the amount of runs you have to do may also be random)
3) Go back to get your Tree.
You can only get this quest from any of the 3 cities once a game day.(i.e. if you do this in Sandy you can't get another tree in Bastok or Windy until the next day)

Quest #3

Notes: Need to have a Christmas tree up in your Mog House. And don't remove your Dream Hat or your Presents Fame will reset.
1) Trade Presents to the Kids in the City.
2) Talk to the Moogle who gave you quest #1 when he offers the Ports to the other cities he will also tell you how much joy you have gotten.
3) Get at least Ridiculous Amounts of Joy and then go check your Mog House and your Moogle should tell you that there is a present under the tree of the city you got the fame in.
4) You get a Special Present go outside to use it and you will get a Fireworks show and then Dream Hat +1 will be in your inventory.

Added which parts are Random

For the Windurst tree quest, the NPC (who's located at the exit to West Sarutabaruta from Port Windurst) will ask you to make two timed runs to the Mog Houses in Port Windurst and Windurst Waters. The fastest way to do it, assuming you've done the quest that lets you access the 4 areas from your MH, is to go to Port, talk to Moogle, come back, go back to Port MH, warp to Waters and warp back.

Can anyone confirm/deny that if you've just finished a quest for an NPC that you can't get the presents from them? I talked to Pichichi till I was blue in the face and kept getting her messages about the end of the Onion Rings quest that I'd just finished.

When you got the quest did it say how many children were in Port? Mine told me 2 in Waters and 1 in Port. Shanruru was the one for me in Port. I believe she gave me the Letter of Joy (but that's completely random so make sure to write down who gave which letter).

What are these 2 timed runs? I only had to do one. I ran over to the moogle in port, got the item, warped to my HP in port and ran back up the path. Does she give out more than one tree?

Huh... the runs must be random. When I talked to her the first time, she said, "Go to MH in Port, you've got two hours." The second time, she said "Go to MH in Waters, you've got 3 hours."

After the second run, she gave me the tree. I think it's Rare/Ex, but don't quote me on that.

Just got a present under my tree after i trade a present to each kid in Sandy and got my tree. Reward:

Dream hat +1

It dispenses a ginger cookie every 24 hours.
#8 Dec 17 2004 at 11:32 AM Rating: Good
How did you get the present?

Was it giving by your moogle or what? Details Vim!!

I put my tree in my mog this morning before work. Will I have a present when I get home? I only gave out about 12 of the 1200gil presents and the Rare/EX gift.

I think he means that after putting his tree in his MH, he traded the EX Gift to every children, and when he got back to his MH, his moogle told him that he found the Dream Hat+1 under the tree.

Found this from various other posts:

More data about how to get the +1 hat that dispenses Ginger Cookies every 24 hours.

From Erunatlon
FAME:
I had ludicrous amounts of joy for a long time last night as I tried to figure things out. I think I recived that fame level after trading:

1 stack of cheap presents.
1 stack of normal presents.
1 stack of expensive presents.
4 Rare presents from the santa hat guy.

I gave presents to at least 5 kids in each nation. Giving the presents to the same kid does not seem to matter, my joy levels still went up, but it's possible it may have a diminished effect.

EDIT: Also I traded more than just those presents, trying to get past Ludicrous Speed (sorry, I had to) but that's all I think it took me to get there. And as far as there being more to this, well if the report that the joy level resets after receiving your present, then I would say there's plenty of gifts out there to get. 12 days of Christmas anyone?

What Happens:
Sounds like you log in, and talk to Moogle. He will say he got a present and you will have it in your inventory. Go out side and "Use" it (Air Rider effect) and you will have the +1 hat in your inventory.

yes everything is randomized

you get random kids in each area of each city
and you have to make a random amount of runs for the tree

you can do the tree run in each city, but not the Dream Hat quest

and now I gotta get that +1, but that will be tonight, as right now Im stuck at work

ok, I got my tree, and i trade the most expensive gifts to all the children in Sandy + 3 ex ones that santa gave to me. Then I left for a bit and when i came back to my mog (about an hour RL) my mog said there was a special present under the tree for me. So i exited mog house and when i opened the present, there was this cool fireworks show + my dream hat +1

edit: it doesn't seem like to have to trade presents to kids in every nation like Win's info said. I only traded to kids in Sandy.

Oh, and another thing, i used the moogle warp to get my bastok tree and then the next day, I tried to go to Windy and get that tree and the moogle didn't want to warp me there on the basis that i wasn't spreading enough 'cheer' ...../slap moogle. So i think you have to trade more presents to kids to use the city-warp capability more than once.

Man, I figured these quests out last night, and yes, an Elv in a Santa Hat = the big win.

BUT, I am pissed, since I am from Windy, my stupid little tree is gimp. I mean, it's only as tall as a bush compared to Tweedius' height.

Can you do the tree quest in Sandy if you are a resident of Windurst?

You can. Actually, Windy trees are for Tarus, so they look like tarus :p

Hey do the trees at least add storage to my Mog House, because my Mog house is already full. I hope it brings at least one slot per tree, does it?

Just a quick note, you can only do one tree quest per game day.

The tree crafter NPC gives you a maximum of 3 runs. If you impress them sufficiently on your first run, you won't get a 2nd.

I got my Bastok and Sandy trees within 2 runs but needed 3 for my Windy tree as I don't know the town too well (and the town-planner needs shooting lol)

...why does the moogle go Shamone! like Michael Jackson?
#19 Dec 18 2004 at 2:47 AM Rating: Good
1) It is only necessary to trade one medium-priced gift or 2 cheap gifts to children in order to kick-start the teleport. (Useful, if you got your EX gift in another city and traded it there, then teleported.

2) I think your joy in a given city might reset if you trade presents in another city. Can anyone verify?

[Edit: I definitely lost Joy somewhere, and I haven't removed my hat yet. I have, however, used the moogle teleport service, given 1 gift in Windy in order to mog-tele back, logged out, and not given gifts in a short while. Thus, either

a) Mog-tele costs a coupla points of Joy,

b) Trading gifts elsewhere decreases or completely nulls your Joy in other cities,

c) Logging out decreases/nulls your Joy, or

d) Your Joy degrades naturally over time.

Hmm...]

Here's some other info. Like Fame, Joy has certain rankings.

The ones I've seen are:

1)Ludicrous
2)Ridiculous
3)Barrelfuls (I still say that isn't a word)

Ludicrous being the highest that I know of.

There may be more rankings.

If you're curious, the Ludicrous ranking is technically "caravans loaded with ludicrous quantities of joy".

The game is starting to sound like me. >.>

My moogle wont give me my Dream Hat +1. I have a ludicrous amount of joy, and I have all 3 trees up in my mog. I have yet to remove my dream hat since I got it.

It actually took me longer than one game day to receive mine.

By the way, your Joy resets when you switch your hat for your +1 hat, and it seems as though it takes more effort to raise your joy with that hat equiped. I'm wondering whether another item is obtainable if you raise your Joy to ludicrous again.

Your joy doesn't reset when you log. I logged off last night with the highest fame, logged back on this morning before JP midnight, and still had the highest fame, but my moogle didn't say anything special. I logged off again, and logged back on later in the day and my fame had reset and my moogle had the gift for me. I'm pretty sure this is your typical JP midnight thing. And logging is ok to do.

First HQ hat usage got me 10 cookies, and it got my fiance 7, so it seems random, unless it's naturally biased towards women :D

Also, it's worth mentioning that there is extended telportation services for the event duration in exchange for the fireworks you get from the Tree NPCs. Talk to your home town teleporter for details, but for 10 fireworks he will teleport you to any regional outpost regardless of your level and who controls it. Kind of a nice holiday perk ^^

Edit: And by the way, I never gave out any purchased gifts. I just horded the free gifts until I had about 7 of them, ran around and handed them out, checked my fame at the moogle, and then logged for the night. HQ hat happened for me the next day (although, not before JP midnight).

I got 5 myself.

I can confirm that Joy does reset if you tele to another town, though I'm unsure thus far whether that's dependant on the actual teleport, or on giving out kiddie gifts in other cities.

I'll test tonight.
