New Food EffectsFollow

Hi All,

With the new December 2004 Patch, SE seems to have made some major changes to the way Food works in FFXI. Besides the general categories (listed in the Update Notes), they also stated:

"The duration and effect of several foods have been adjusted.

Effects
Limits have been introduced to certain statuses that are affected by consuming meals and drinks. Those statuses are as follows:
attack/ranged attack/defense/accuracy/ranged accuracy/HP/MP

These limits vary with the type of food, as well as the consumer's job and level. We suggest trying many different combinations to see which foods are most effective in different situations."

So it seems that Foods will now vary by Level and Job (which could make a new "Food Effects List" properly updated, a challenge ;). The goal of this post is to try to aggregate as many Food Changes / New Effects into a concise post to help everyone benefit. :)

I managed to run a few tests with the Same Job, but Different Level (for various foods) last night.

Helpful Tip! The Orastery dispatched a “foul-mouthed” Tarutaru – Panke-Poranke – to Lower Jeuno. (^_^;) Panke is sitting in front of the Merry Minstrel Pub and will “magically remove” any Food Effects if you trade him a Gysahl Green (which you can buy at AH or Challoux NPC sitting in front of the Chocobo Stables in Port Jeuno.) (^_^)

(Using SE's New Food Categories (listed in December Patch Notes)):


*** Meat dishes ***
Mainly improve attributes such as STR, attack, and ranged attack.

Grilled Hare  (Unstackable – but look at the Duration now (^_^))
(Very easy to make, even for beginning Cooks! (^_^))
(Level 1 MNK) STR +2, INT -1, Attack +33.3% (or Attack +4)
Duration: 3 hours(!)

(Level 75 MNK) STR +2, INT -1, Attack +4.1% (or Attack +16)
Duration: 3 hours

Roast Mutton (Unstackable – but look at the Duration now (^_^))
(Level 1 MNK) STR +3, INT -1, Attack +45.5% (or Attack +5)
Duration: 3 hours(!)

(Level 45 WAR) STR +3, INT -1, Attack +18.8% (or Attack +31)
Duration: 3 hours(!)

(Level 75 MNK) STR +3, INT -1, Attack +7.9% (or Attack +31)
Duration: 3 hours

Juicy Mutton (Unstackable – but look at the Duration now (^_^))
(Note: +1 version of Roast Mutton)
(Level 35 RDM) STR +3, INT -1, Attack +27.8% (or Attack +35)
Duration: 4 hours(!)

Meat Jerky
(Level 35 RDM) STR +3, INT -1, Attack +23.8% (or Attack +30)
Duration: 30 min

Meat Mithkabob
(Level 1 MNK) STR +5, AGI -1, INT -2, Attack +54.5% (or Attack +6) (Attack changed from 11 -> 17)(Note: If we subtract the Attack boost due to STR +5 (where 2 STR = 1 Attack), then the Attack boost is +31.8%)
Duration: 30 min

(Level 35 RDM, 40 NIN, 45 WAR) STR +5, AGI +1, INT -2, Attack +23% (or Attack +38 on WAR / Attack +30 on RDM)
Duration: 30 min

(Level 75 MNK) STR +5, AGI +1, INT -2, Attack +15.8% (or Attack +62)
Duration: 30 min

Meat Chiefkabob
(Level 1 MNK) STR +5, AGI +1, INT -2, Attack +54.5% (Attack changed from 11 -> 17)(Note: If we subtract the Attack boost due to STR +5 (where 2 STR = 1 Attack), then the Attack boost is +31.8%)
Duration: 1 hour

(Level 75 MNK) STR +5, AGI +1, INT -2, Attack +17.5%
Duration: 1 hour

(Note: this is seems to be the biggest “nerf” in that a standard Synth is now only yields 6 Mithkabobs (instead of 12) and the Attack Bonus #’s are down for high level jobs using them.)

Dhalmel Pie
(Given that this recipe is much higher level than a Meat Mithkabob, I decided to try these out and see what changes there were (rather big change for this food!))
(Level 1 MNK) HP +15, STR +4, VIT +1, AGI +2, INT -2, MND +1, Attack +45.5%
Duration: 30 min

(Note: considering Dhalmel Meat is much cheaper than Cockatrice Meat, this could be a potentially cheaper alternative for Attack/Melee food :).

Dhalmel Steak (Unstackable – but look at the Duration now (^_^))
(Level 24 MNK, 45 WAR) STR +4, INT -2, Attack +26.1% (or Attack +26 (for MNK) / Attack +43 (for WAR))
Duration: 3 hours(!)

Coeurl Saute (Unstackable – but look at the Duration now (^_^))

(Note: No idea if the old “Stun Resistance +10” is still active; wasn’t able to test this.)

Navarin (Unstackable – but look at the Duration now (^_^))
(Level 35 RDM) HP +17, STR +3, VIT +1, AGI +1, INT -1
(Level 40 NIN) HP +19, STR +3, VIT +1, AGI +1, Attack +20
Duration: 3 hours
(Note: Was unable to test if Evasion bonus is still here.)


*** Sushi ***
Mainly improve attributes such as DEX and accuracy. There are also some types of sushi that improve ranged accuracy.

More Updates to come! If anyone wants to contribute, please post your Level, Job and note the actual Base Stat and Attack / Defense / Elemental changes as possible. Sorting through all the different effects per Level and Job will be a monstrous undertaking, but hopefully we can sort through this, and most importantly, discover lots of new tasty Foods to try out and use that give great bonuses to help us all kick-butt and conquer the monsters of Vana’diel! (^_^)

Just so you know, there are caps on stats now. It's so you're forced to "move on" to newer foods as you level up.

This is gonna be so hard to keep track of.

Oh and unless I missed it up there, it apparently varies job to job too. I haven't tested that one, but I can rightly say there was no difference in the effect of a Pumpkin Pie between a 44BLM and a 52WHM. I changed jobs while under the effect of the pie, and the stat boost and MP bonus stayed the same.
