If anyone gave you advice on how to play your character would you take it into consideration or just blow it off?

It depends on the situation really, in my personal opinion.

One time, I was leveling my RDM sub for my Taru BLM. This was WAY back about 5 months ago, when I was still unfamiliar with the game. I had joined a party in Yuhtunga Jungle, and played my RDM as I normally would. The party did fine, and we were getting decent exp, so I didn't see any reason to change what I was doing.

A little bit into the exping, the NIN tank in my party /tells me "Hey, instead of casting Blind first, cast Slow first on the mob." At first I thought to myself, what would a NIN know about playing an RDM? However, I didn't just say right off the bat "stfu" or anything like that, since I'm not that kind of person ;D. Instead I asked what would be the benefits of casting slow on the mob first instead of blind. In my opinion, I felt that blinding the mob would reduce its chances of hitting us, so we would take less damage from the get-go. However, the NIN replied by saying that he had played as a RDM well into his 60s, and said that from experience, slow was best to cast first because it lowered the interval at which the enemy can attack, thus increasing the time any healers had to heal the tank, etc.

I decided to take his advice, and began to cast slow first instead of blind. Overall, it didn't seem as if our rate of exp changed or anything, but now I realized that casting slow first would enable our NIN tank to get Utsusemi off more often after his shadows ran out. By slowing the mob first, I gave our NIN tank more time to bring up his shadows, which resulted in him taking less damage overall.

Basically, if someone is telling you how to do your job, ask them why changing what you are doing would be better. If you find that they have played your job before, and for longer than you have, I would definitely consider what they are saying, although it is still your decision as to whether or not to follow it.

On the other hand, if someone just outright says to you "do what I say" or "your doing it all wrong" without explaining what it is or why, then I would probably blow it off.

Personally, I usually take all the advice I can get. If the person giving me the advice doesn't seem like a total asshat, or seems like he earnestly just wants to help you out, I would take that advice into consideration.

Even as a lvl 56 Taru BLM/RDM, I still take other's advice, but hey, thats just me >_>.

I always take into consideration what other people tell me when they are being a douche bag about it.
Sometimes it's a good thing I listened to the other person because the information proves useful. Other times I wish I didnt have eyes to see what they had typed.

But I'm always open to criticism.
