I got a POL-1160 error and I can't get back on. I called SE and they had to pass my call to a tech which is going to take two days for them to get back to me. Has anyone had this error? I'm affraid if I hace to format or reinstall FFXI to my ps2 I will loose my charictor. Does anyone know anything about this?

Please help.

If you reinstall FFXI, you won't lose your character; it's stored on the servers.
You will lose your macros though >< So it's up to you whether to take the dive.

You will also lose any messages received from buddies (they're archived to an extent, if you didn't know.)

Sucked for me, when I had to do a complete reinstall (damned update hiccuped over my crappy internet, leaving me with a corrupted file, and no way to log in.) I had a lot of msgs from friends who had given me some support through a rough time of life that I would have liked to keep.

Smiley: frown Hope it works out better than that for you.

Well, about 2 months ago I couldn't connect to FFXI again (just after the last update). I don't remember the number (POL-xxxx) of the error, but POL couldn't connect to the update server. First time it happened to me. I used GM Call, and the GM told me to uninstall my Firewall. I didn't, I just disactivate it while POL is connecting to the update server, then quickly activate it back, and no more problems. So check it if you have a firewall.

(Well, anyway, I really dislike the tech you usually speak with... "Some in-game animations are bugging. My char split in symetrical squares when I use SA for example." GM : "Throw your modem away and buy a new one." Me : "So, I'm having graphic troubles, and I need to change my modem to resolve this ? ..." GM : "Absulutely. You can also switch back to the <version> drivers of your Graphic Card, it should also work." "Me : All right. I'll try this ... Thank you." -_-)

(Soory 'bout the grammar/vocabulary, can't speak english very well ... /em slaps her own face.)

The person at I spoke to was completly useless. I could probably get more information talking to a monkey. But thats beyond my point. He said if I have to reformat my ps2 Hard drive I will loose all information on it and probably loose my charicter. I find this wierd because what about the people who buy charicters? These charicters from what I'm told are stored on a server and they don't actually get deleted if I have to reformat, reinstall my hardrive. I think I figured out the prob though. I think I had too much dust in my ps2 and the laser couldnt read the disk anymore when I was trying to reinstall. My game froze up and eventually after 30 mins of waiting I had to shut my system down which I think corrupted a file. If I have to reinstall do I reinstall the POL veiwer or just CoP when there is a corrupted file?

Thank you very much for all your info so far. I really appreciate it. And ofcourse you all get rated up.

YEs the GMs and tech team's only answers seem to be "throw that away, and buy a new one of these." I called the tech guys to see why my PS2 version requires me to retry to connect 100% of the time I boot the thing up because it claims I have no internet connection (whereas my PC has no such problem). They didn't even ask if I had a router, they just said my modem might be malfunctioning and I may need to update it or its drivers. So when I mentioned that fact, and the fact that my PC version has no problems, their answer was my Network Adapter was probably corrupted and I needed a new one.

Strange that ever since I changed the network cable, instead of buying a new router or network adapter, the thing works fine.

Oh and by the way, there's very little chance...make that hardly any chance...that you'll lose your character by reinstalling the game. They just say that to avoid liability. The character data is stored server side. The only things you will lose are screenshots (so take them out first), Macros, Map Markers, messages, and a few personal preferences in the POL viewer. The worst that could happen is that your items wouldn't be sorted when you logged on after reinstalling. I've had to reinstall FFXI twice and constantly switch between PS2 and PC have had absolutely no problems with my characters outside of items rearranging themselves as they see fit. >_>

So rest easy.

Well that was me from home. Thanks guys I re-installed everything. And it seems to work fine. I do notice alot of wierd things happening though, like for instance I can't see the sixth person's HP bar in my party. Oh well it works know. I was a little scared cause I thought My PS2 went but it seems that the problem there was to must dust in the machine causing it not to read any disc's. And you knew what the Techy's answer to that one was...."buy a new ps2".
