the New Character itch... then abandonment.Follow

has anyone done this??

a couple times, i had the bright idea of starting a brand new character.. it seemed thrilling! now that i know seemingly all there is to know about races, classes, and job/subjob combos, i'd surely be able to make the ultimate character right?

so i'd buy a new POL ID, create my new uber character, and take it's lousy lvl 1 *** out to ronfaure or saruta or wherever i happened to be at the time, and start leveling...

suddenly it all comes back in a flash... how much time you actually put into your main character... the fact that after slaving away solo for 10 levels or so, you have to enter back into the hell that is Valkurm Dunes, and subject yourself to NOOB hell... the fact that there is no subjob till you hit 18, and look for someone to help you get that skull again for the quest, and how much it sucks to get killed by a Forest Hair, or an Orc that wandered too far East, or by a stupid puller who brings back a lizard AND a gobbie! and now that you know about the proper equipment to use, you run back to the AH every 3 levels or so to totally re-equip your character, and this goes on and on all the way up to level 7 or whatever... and you go, damn, hell with this, i'm getting back on my main.

anybody ever do this?

Several times hehe^^

Only person I know of who's done it successfully has a main 60 Thief Mithra, and a 45 taru blm ^^

I've given up leveling new chars and have just made my Taru do the jobs I want to try:) Ninja was actually fun, I think after my WHM hits 75 and I can take a breather I might just try NIN for a while.

I remember when I first got my subjob for this character. I was so impressed by the stats increase. Now I can't remember life without a sub. I think that's what keeps stopping me from making another char/mule. To bad you can't get the sub items and mail them to your mule. That would just be awesome.

i did it a few times...

once was a hume monk... got it to lvl 5 or so.
also elvaan warrior... this didn't get past lvl 2.
another time was galka, uhh... i forget, maybe warrior... that only lasted to lvl 2.

i do have two mules however that i keep, that i leveled a little bit each.

i have a taru blm that i've leveled to 6 (he's also my little chef, though cooking skill is still relatively low), and a mithra monk that i've leveled to 3 (she's my buyer and seller of goods. send all my treasure to her to sort and sell, saves me a ton of inventory space!).

when i look back on all the mules i've leveled, that's a lot of time i could have put into my "real" character... but... you know what they say about hindsight...

it was fun all the same.

I thought about it once when a RL buddy started playing. Then after actually thinking about it I realized how much time I've put into my Character. And this was when I was only at 10 Days of playing time. At 60+ days I wouldn't even consider this now.

With as much work as it goes to level one character's jobs to whatever level you want I don't think I would be able to start all over and go back to nothing..lol

To I fell like I put in to much to my character now to try and start again... But hey there are some out there that have.

when i started the game the day it came out, i started with a mithra, the model with the white hair. i got her to 44 whm, 22 blm and she's rank 5. then i got bored with mithra, specially finding out there was so many out there. i still level smn now and then with her, she's 25 now.
I started a new around the end of summer, she now has more days played then my mithra used to, she's a level 60 pld (less then 2k from 61) elvaan female, rank 7 sandorian. got thf to 15, mnk 15, war 33, ninja 16, whm 6, blm 10 and im currently leveling rdm (level 13 ; ;) and i actually finally took a craft for the first time this month lol cooking at 34.
it really sucked going thru the ranks, sub job quest, kazham keys, getting all the maps again (im a map freak so all quest there was to do to gain maps, i did with both charaters ><) leveling (god i hated war even tho they're so freakin nice).
it was worth it tho, i like her more than my mithra lol im retired from pld since i hit 60 with full AF, rdm gonna be more of a challenge as an elvaan i think.....and god i hate the dunes ; ;

If you've got the time and the patience, and 5 interested friends, I'd recommend making a brand new low level set pt if new characters are itching in your veins. Have these 5 friends and yourself save up some cash for a while, a few weeks preferably, and then take your new characters to the moon.

This is what I'm planning for next summer, if at all possible. Not only will it be great to level up that mule I've had forever, but it'll give me and my friends the chance to see just how quick a really well coordinated team can get to higher levels.

I'd recommend, however, that you either have lots of the right gear for your new character already or save up loads of money. We're talking 500k+. You may not think you'll need much, but a good set pt levels fast and that cash will be running out reeeeeeeaaall quick, depending on your job. Warrior-types can sell off thier gear once they have gotten beyond it, but casters and the item-sucker classes like ninja will need a lot of money in reserve.

My Taru, Joma, has been a great character. I just recently reinstated Jomi, he is an Elvaan MNK at the moment, and I plan to bring him all the way to level 75 as either a mnk or a thf. The taru is still good for warping around Bismarck, and cooking, but i think the elf will be a lot more fun to play. Getting back my rank won't be much fun, and I will not play any type of spell caster, since ive spent so much gil on the taru for spells.

Yeah, I've thought about leveling up a mule and then realizing the time and gil spent equipping the mule would be better put towards gear or crafting for my main. O.o

And then there's things like the dunes without a subjob, the subjob quest, the choco quest, etc. that don't sound appealing. XD

Working on a new character myself.

Haven't taken it very far, insofar as leveling is concerned, but I think it'll keep my interest for a while.

Did this a while back with a mage too, but I got bored and abandoned him pretty quick. You can see him in my signature below, because I'm still telling myself I'll actually get around to leveling him again one day. Smiley: tongue

Denial = {Yes, please.}

I have done this soooo many times.

Taru - Eviltaru - Lv 18WAR
Taru - Jebuspickles - Lv 5WHM
Hume - Zanturion - Lv 7RDM

Of those adventures only one remains added to my collection
of mules.... Jebuspickles

My main is actally my second character. Shelila my Taru was level 18, with the Sub-job quest done before I started this one now she is a lvl 22 Blm, it hant moved much due to the increasing cost of playing Monk...but I still plan to level it, and eventually play with Smn someday.

I also have a Hume lvl 15 War, that has started gathering sub-job items, but Thf will be her main. This will be the character that will be included in the set MagicWeaponZill is speaking of.

I have a lvl 7 Elvaan Whm too, but Im seriously reconsidering that course.

Its always nice to have something else to do, when I get bored with Laur.
