I thought this might interest everyone.

*EDIT* as mentioned below you can view the whole thing in the developers news section within POL.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The holiday season is here and the Final Fantasy XI development elves have been busy putting together goodies for all the good boys and girls of Vana'diel.
We are planning our next major version update for Thursday, December 12. The details of the update are as follows:

There will be several new quests and events added to the Promathia areas.

New quests will also be added in Non-Promathia areas.

New monsters (including notorious monsters) will be added.

Over 15 new "orb battles" will be added.

Several new weapons, types of equipment, and items will be introduced.

The difficulty of selected Promathia missions will be adjusted.

Tavnazian Archipelago supply quests and regional teleportation will become available.

Chat filter options will be expanded.

A new Gobbiebag quest will be introduced.

Shortcuts into Promyvion - Vahzl for those who have partially or fully completed the Promathia mission will be added.

"Temporary items" found on the Balltista playing field may now be stored in one's inventory for the duration of the match(es). Also several previous "special" rules will be implemented permanently.

A new point system for rating Ballista participants on their performance will be introduced.

The stack number for several select items will be increased from 12 to 99. In accordance with the adjustments, players will be unable to put items up for auction for a short period of time. Details on this temporary maintenance will be provided soon.

Several previously unstackable foods will now be stackable.

The duration and effect of certain foods will be adjusted.

The Old Sabertooth in Sauromugue Champaign will no longer drop any items.

The variety of items that can be dug up using the "Scavenge" ability will be increased.

A new thief job trait will be added.

The potency of etudes will be adjusted.

"Spirit Link" will now heal a wyvern's status ailments.

The accuracy of "Blood Pact" attacks during magic bursts will be adjusted.

The strength of "Blood Pact" attacks will not increase as much when fighting weaker enemies.

The order of messages that appear when using the /nominate, /vote and /propose commands will be adjusted

The fee collected when placing items on auction will be determined by the current auction price, not the store/guild selling price.

In addition to the changes mentioned above, many other adjustments are being made. A complete list of all changes will be available on the day of the update.
Also, we are planning several new events for the end of the year, so keep your eyes open!

Another issue being addressed during this version update is the monopoly over certain monsters and items by a number of players.
The development team is currently working on several methods to combat these types of actions.
Some methods include the introduction of similar items, and new ways of obtaining items.

Articles 23, 24 and 25 of the PlayOnline User Agreement as well as Article 6 of the Finaly Fantasy XI User Agreement specificly prohibit the sale of any in-game money, characters, and/or items on internet auctions, etc.
Any players found participating in RMT (Real Money Trading), whether it be buying or selling, may have their accounts terminated. Please consider the consequences before partaking in actions that may result in the destruction of all your player characters.

Finally, for all existing and future Windows version players, we have developed a new benchmark program to test the playability of Finaly Fantasy XI on your personal computer.
"Vana'diel Bench 3" will not only display the stunning landscape of the Lufaise Meadows, but will also offer a sneak peak into some of the most exciting cutscenes from the Chains of Promathia missions! To download this free software, visit the Final Fantasy XI homepage, or any participating game sites.

good news all round, as long as they dont mess with the NM drops too much.

Maybe the full set of RSE2 will finally be available.

Awesome, very very awesome ;)

Dare I hope juices will become stackable? >.>

Bout time they made that old sabretooth worthless to camp. Getting ranger half the time really depended on whether the guy camping the fangs and hides was an asshat or not. ;)

Sounds awsome, too bad I'm stuck on Gobbie bag 3, I'd love to see a new Moogle quest although I'm not ******** ^^

I found these very interesting:

A new thief job trait will be added.

The fee collected when placing items on auction will be determined by the current auction price, not the store/guild selling price.

Another issue being addressed during this version update is the monopoly over certain monsters and items by a number of players.
The development team is currently working on several methods to combat these types of actions.

Wonder what the new trait is?

How will the fee system work, if you wanna sell your leaping boots you'll have to pay tax on the 750k that they cost now, instead of what an NPC will offer you for them? Just curious as to how that works currently and how this change will affect items like that.

Very interested to see how they stem the monster camping, I'd love to see how this pans out.

OMG the gil seller problem is being worked on, 1st the Jerry clan, now the Redapple clan. Hope the items dont become gimped, and that they benefit the legit players like us.

This could potentially be big. Two or three people driving Emp Pin up to 750K paying 10K in taxes each time it's placed on AH will run out of gil quickly.

This part I find strange. They use a conclusive paragraph, then go on to talk about stomping gil sellers/buyers? Is that really what the POL message says? It looks like it may have been added in by a 3rd-party before posting it or something. I'm not blaming Garan, but I don't know anything about the site he's copying/pasting from.

Sorry I just copied this from the main forum and the guy that posted there typed it out himself, quoting the POL source. So, as I put in the edit at the top, for the full deal log on to POL. I haven't had chance to do this as of yet, I just thought I'd throw it out to get the lip-licking and drooling started. :)

The new tax system for the auction house could create a new type of undercutting. People that are selling high-priced items like Leaping Boots will not want to pay that tax twice. So, to prevent items from being returned to their mog house, undercutting may occur. Good for the buyer, bad for the seller.

Works for me Chopss, I think things are getting out of hand anyway:)

Sucks for people who bought at these high prices, but I've never camped an NM for anything other than items I can use so I'm not in it for the cash :)

They've most likely moved onto WoW and EQ2. Glad to see SE finally take some sort of stance against gil sellers and NM bots (the ones that are still around).

Here's my thoughts.

Guess: A fair bit of the spoils from these BCNM will be items equivalent to those camped in NM monopolies.

Promyvion-Mea please.

Hopefully more than one. (I'm greedy.)

It will probably be juices. Having dropped this bit of info onto the net now, S-E will get mobbed by angry mages if they don't pony up the juice stacks.

Duh, S-E. Shouldn't have had drops to begin with. -_-

Closer, S-E, but still no cigar.

I give them credit, this is an idea I never thought of. And I like it.

I definitely noticed this and have been hoping they moved on to other games. I'm guessing they need to be highly leveled enough to act like sufficient pricks so they got an early start.

The fact that Lucun, Doublening, and Oneman are also gone at the same time the jerry's are makes me wonder if they weren't characters on the Jerry accounts...

I have a special place in my heart for Lucun and Doublening, those two harassed me so much in the grotto I quit mining. May take it up again though now.

Nooooo! j/k

I heard reports of Redapples mining in Ifrit's Cauldron, but no confirmations. Their undercutting would be good for consumers and high-level crafters but terrible for other miners. I'd imagine they would soon leave the game as well, though. They're usually in Ghelsba Outpost logging and Yughott Grotto mining, and they have also been conspicuously absent.

the redapples are alive and well, all of them online at this very
moment.

they have expanded to other areas, Jugner Forest, LaThiene Plateau,
Buburimu Peninsula, to name a few.

Now, if they could just be nice and let us stack all the potions and Ethers (maybe put the little ones up to 99s O.~

Hmmm, it also says more updates to be announced on day it's released. *wishes for warp for drks* Hey I can dream at least.

But even without that, i'm pretty happy that they're expanding chat filter options. Wooo, been waiting for something new for a while.
