Any way to retrieve items sucked into a black hole?Follow

Like say an event item? -_-

My Fortune Egg that I spent ages (and literally a fortune) to get has completely and totally vanished from my inventory. I *know* 100% that it was equipped when I logged out in my Mog House, because I wrote down all my stats and equipment to compare to my sister's PLD stats. Then when I logged back in a few hours later, the egg is GONE. Not in my inventory, not in my mog safe, not in storage, not equipped, GONE.

My sister says she knows a person who lost a Sniper ring like this, and I thought that'd just be a convenient excuse to lose an item like that to a glitch, but then I asked a friend about this situation and he just recently lost his Lord's Yukata mysteriously too.

I don't know if I should call a GM or just move on. Because this isn't something you can buy. And I really liked that thing. +1 VIT in an otherwise unused space for a long time is very nice...*sigh*

Any suggestions...?

Steven Hawkings speculated that information is simultaneously destroyed in the singularity, and dispersed into its component parts and compressed equally along the event horizon.

It's theoretically possible that, provided such a thing could actually be accomplished, you could retrieve lost information from the event horizon.

As to your particular predicament, I would recommend calling a GM. They may not be able to do anything, but it would certainly be worth a try.

[Edit: Just me being picky about my wording. =P]

Even though I understood that I wonder if Steven Hawking ever had to deal with the loss of an Easter egg. :p

Well I logged out anyways. I'll try a GM some other time. I need to go fume.

lmfao

That's the funniest thing I've read in a while, and that's saying something, since I've been playing in the official flame thread all day.

Rate up. Hope you get your easter egg back. =)

Stephen Hawking has also recently started to discount his own theories of black holes.

Originally he theorized that black holes could over billions of years of time, will eventually evaporate by it self. How? Well a simple interaction between positrons and electrons creating virtual pairs. This occurs both inside and outside of the black hole's event horizon. However, every once in a while, a pair can be created by the interaction of the two pairs, but this time one from the inside and one from the outside. The one from the outside entering the black hole allows for the pair on the inside to escape and there for the bl;ack hole losses a bit of energy/mass.

Now you may say, well doesn't the pair from the outside make up for the other lost particle? Well this is where it gets tricky. Looking past traditional quantam mechanics, hawkings argues that from our perspective, the particle that actually goes in, goes in with a negative mass/energy therefore it doesn't really replace the other pair.

Where am I going with all this? I don't know, but it's just a random piece of sueless information and confusing concept that Hawking once created and now denouncing. So about your items disappearing, unless it's a positron or electron, i'd seek GM help, which probably won't do much good anyway.

I forgot to add that virtual pairs are just photons of energy created by the positrona nd electron combining, which sort of violates the law of conservation of energy, but that's a different topic. Anyways these pairs combine and then very quickly annhilate each other so the violation if there is one, doesn;t last for long.

I lost my fortune egg too O.o except I reasoned that I accidentally threw it (even though I didn't have the ranged hotkeys...) Could mine have gone into the same abyss?!

Probably. I believe this is the self-same abyss wherein can be found, for those brave enough to venture to look, all the missing ballpoint pens, the socks lost in the drier, and my missing stereo remote.

Uh, ok this deserves an "orz." O_o

Heh, I remember talking about this stuff in science class XD

ANYWAY, the GM didn't respond. But there were, get this, 43 calls ahead of me. He/She probably just didn't get to me before I logged. Oh well.

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who lost it. I'm slowly accepting it...but geez...:(

They may not bother.

If it were, say, all your money and equipment that disappeared, I'm sure they'd jump right on it.

If you were to report that you lost a bat wing... they might just slap you.

An easter egg though? 50/50 chance of them caring, depending on who answers your call. Some of the GM's are very very nice, some less so. Just like anybody else.

Your science class discussed Hawkings theories on black holes? What science class was that?! Smiley: tongue

Just black holes. It was Space science (as plain as that sounds, that's the name), and black holes was the discussion. Steven Hawking wasn't mentioned, but the positron and electron virtual pairs was. Though if that's Hawking's work, then I guess you could say we did discuss him, but his name was never mentioned. It was an honors course so we went into some "deep" thinking sometimes. It was fun and geeky at the same time. :D

If I'm correct, I don't think GMs can do anything about missing equipment or items. Although, it's a bit less suspicious to say you lost your Fortune Egg, which has no market value, than trying to convince them you lost your Monster Signa.

You might have a point with them there.

But I'm thinking, what if they are phasing them out? That would be sad, but maybe that is what's happening? I for one have my yukata's and Halloween gear in my storage. I don't check them often. For all I know, maybe I'm missing something too? =[

Or worse, we could be in line for an infernal server wipe.

*creepy sound effects*

Perhaps we should begin considering enlisting the assistance of dark forces.

[disclaimer]In the hopes that I don't start rumors, all of that was intended as comedy. i.e. not true.[/disclaimer]

Three other people I spoke to claim to have lost their egg too. I'm hearing the music. >_>

GM's response was plain and to the point:

"I apologize for the inconvenience, however I cannot replace lost items."

After the general "hello what is your problem" genericness, that's all he said. /cry

Wasted Easter, I did.
