Last night (Thursday night) I saw the same gilsellers farming the same goobbues in Zitah, while listening to reports of gilsellers camping NMs all over the place. After hearing that a gilseller was holding ownership of the morion worm to drive the AH price up on the tathlum, I lost my temper a bit. I called a GM immediately, even though everyone said they would just tell me there was nothing they can do about it and I would be banned if I called them more than once. I was contacted by a GM, who, after I told him how fed up I was, informed me that he plays FFXI on a different server and was also really irritated about the gilseller situation. His suggestion to me, which makes a whole lot of sense, was to bypass the GMs. They don't hold the power in the game. He suggested we use the POL support system and get EVERYONE we know to send emails complaining about how the gilsellers ruin the game. Think of it as a petition. He said the POL support emails actually go to SE, whereas the GM calls end at the GMs. If we get enough people to send these emails, maybe they will take notice. PLEASE send an email, preferably one every day (even if it's just a copy of the same email each day) to let them know how much we hate these gilsellers. Things you can include in the email:

*Driving AH prices up so noone can afford the gear they need
*MPKing people with their pulls to ensure they can claim the NMs
*Holding ownership of NMs to keep others from getting the item
*Preventing other people from farming items to afford gear they will ACTUALLY USE
*Include any personal stories you can think of (hell, make one up, if you wish) on how these gilsellers ruin the game for you and your friends

You might even want to remind them that World of Warcraft is about to go gold, as well as mentioning the recent release of Everquest 2. If SE believes the gilsellers will cause them to lose more accounts than they are paying for, SE will be forced to do something. Afterall, MONEY is the problem for us, so let's show them that it could turn into THEIR problem, too!

The email support can be found after logging in to POL and selecting Final Fantasy XI. Go into "Service and Support", select Support, then "E-mail support". It will ask you what category you want the email classified as. I suggest putting it in as a "Problem report" to get it some much needed attention. TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS!

Good deal, thank you for the advice. I'll be going through with this one.

The big irony is that SE's reluctance to ban gilsellers will come back and bite it in the ***:
As more people buy gil, more gilsellers go active, the price of gil goes down, the gilsellers get more aggressive, other games come out...people move...and the price of FFXI gil will go down even more, because there's more supply than demand.

So the gilsellers will move. New games will be much more lucrative.

SE loses a huge number of accounts anyway.
The gilsellers are not here to play! They don't care how fun the game is!
But real players DO care. And the game is a lot less fun these days.

And the gilseller problem is coming to your next favorite game.

Way to go SE.

I already did this, and snail mail too. Neither have netted me a reply and I did the snail mail about a week ago, so that's understandable. But the electronic sluggishness irks me. Oh well.

I just hope they take us seriously...

This seems genius, if everyone does this then won't SE eventually almost be forced to take action? Anyway thumbs up! I'm all for it just as long as I remember to do it!

I already did this a couple of weeks ago, but it is an excellent idea. Send those submissions in, and rate up.

A remark as to the effectiveness of doing it this way:

On my server in EQ1 there was an entire guild (about 12 people) all played by ONE person. One incredibly RUDE person. He bought all the accounts, and continuously denied it, even in the face of the people who SOLD him the accounts. He also made it a habit to train people, KS (it's possible there, no locked encounters) and do anything and everything he could to royally ***** up a person/raid's day. This went on for about 2-3 years. GMs were called, they always said they couldn't do anything because they didn't witness it. It was affecting a large portion of the server.

Finally, the people wised up, and sent in MASSIVE amounts of email to Sony, with logged proof of the guy admitting (he admitted it because one of the people he bought an account from ganked it back and he was pissed because Sony wouldn't do anything for him LMAO) in /ooc that he bought the accounts and threatening KS even MORE people until he got his accounts back. There were also numerous logs of his activities. Screenshots. And posts from the forums detailing just how upset the server was at his actions.

The response? The guy was investigated and later banned. It did take a couple of weeks for the investigation to be completed, but it WAS done. I hear tell he went to City of Heroes.

I think this is the best plan to date. But you gotta do it properly. Gather your screenshots. Gather any and all information you have on these gilsellers. Have everyone you know do the same. And bomb SE with emails until they respond.

Good luck!

Hot damn. That makes my day.

I'd ask who this open and honest GM is, but I wouldn't want him named for fear someone at SE might get pissed at him.

But send him a tell saying the folks in Allakhazam's Bismarck forum send a heartfelt "Thank you" his way, for his candidness.

^^

[Edit: PS2 users, you will need your PS2's model number in order to send a problem report to SE.

Regardless of the fact that this information is not pertinant to the gil-seller problem, the form requires it.

Easiest way to get it is to start up your PS2 and hit Triangle on that front page.

It will be the first listing, "Console". For example, mine is SCPH-39001.]

make SURE to include the fact that you'll seriously consider leaving this game for another if the problem isn't remedied soon.

if a good number of people email/write them and say this, they will more than likely take action.

there are a LOT more of us then there are gil sellers, if SE needs to choose between real players and gilsellers, they will choose real players if only because they stand to lose a LOT more money if we quit. and they know if they lose us, they lose the gil sellers too, cause gil selling will no longer be profitible without a client base to buy their "product".

great post. rate up!

That is *really* sad. Several people modded the original poster down and didn't say a word about it. How ************ is that?

Well, considering that the OP spammed all the server forums, I imagine people got annoyed with it. There can be too much of a good thing sometimes.

I am reminded of a certain thread... hmm... well, I can post this info in my thread since its all along the same lines

and that way people will also have a form letter to toy with when sending this email

here is a link to that thread

just in case people forgot about it

Perhaps another option that could be taken and i will gladly be the one to see it through with everyones support.

If you want this to stop maybe the only option will be to hit Square Enix where it hurts, there wallet, we all know that part of the reason square enix does nothing is because with all the accounts that gil farmers possess they are making a fortune off of them

They feel that cancelling X amount of gil farmers accounts out weighs the amount of accounts that the average players will cancel. well maybe we have to put it a little more clearly for them,

My suggestion is send your Character names, server, and whether or not you will end up leaving vana diel because of this, at the bottom of this will be an email address, i will put all this information into a spread sheet and send it to them once a day, eventually they will have to do something

Also in your emails if you have any other suggestions please include them, i will gladly take any feedback i can get

I will definitely be taking part in this ^^ It's certainly a very good idea, and I'm so tired of the Jerrys..

I just hope it'll show us some results. You can't blame us for trying though, right? :D

Heres another possible solution, though it probably won't work and might end up hurting real players. Just boycott for a month or so whatever items gil sellers are capitalizing on. If they can't make money off kotes, monster signas, peacock charms, etc. they'll lose money and be forced to lower prices. Problem is getting 5000+ players on the server to boycott. =/ Also it's known that some gil sellers sell under different names, and thus the best way to get around that is to boycott practically everything save small items like food, crystals, ammo, etc. This would really hurt everyone, though if it works, things might be better in the long run.
