Why Do You Play?Follow

Everybody has their reasons to play. Be it constant XP grinding, exploration, meeting new people, whatnot. Why do you continue your existence in Vana'diel?

My reason for playing was exploration, and continuing the story in the game (be it San d'Oria's missions, Zilart Missions, Promyvion, yadda). I loved to explore new places, especially places where I had a high chance of dying. The risk factor was just enough to make it interesting.

Meeting new people, truth be told, was secondary, at best, to me. The people I've met, true, were outstanding in that there was always at least one person online to talk to. And every one of them was unique. Every one of them had their own reason why I liked them.

Yes, I'm well aware that there have probably been numerous threads of this ilk. But, things change. It's always nice to keep up-to-date.

To have some sort of feeling of adventure in this dull life.

HaaHaa! Its true though work, school, hanging out with friends just gets boring sometimes.

- To be with friends, and meet new ones as well. There's always someone I have to say hi to, especially if we haven't talked in a while.

- To explore. I love finding new places to capture in a screenie, or take people out to.

- To continue the storyline. I <3 Raogrimm. Gotta keep the adventure going!

- To get away from the daily grind of reality >< I'd rather take a level grind with friends, than deal with some of the work I have to put up with out here, tbh.

To have fun and be a great mage like Eleusynia... I'd like to be a great DRK like Zariko, but that purple armour looks kinda goofy:) /poke Zariko

Mostly I play for the adventure and the fun of immersing myself into a world not just a game. About 2 years ago a friend and I were playing GTA3 and thought, wow imagine a game like this that you could run around and have more freedom, level up skills, change jobs, equipment, multiplayer, have your own house/job etc. Then this game comes out... It was everything I was looking for in a game albeit not in an urban setting.

I've really grown to love this game and can't imagine playing anything else (even though GTA:SA looks pretty good)

You *******! I am a Dragoon!

Well lessee...

Comraderie between friends, going out to get someone some rare item or just ******** around.

Zariko(lie)

The sense of adventure, and being able to turn this game on and do any number of things. I don't have to beat a boss to continue, or find some item, I can go fish, craft XP any job I want, farm, etc.

Zariko(lie)

Because I have built some good friendships on this game, people I've never met for sure, but I still chat with them every day. Does physical presence mean they aren't a good friend? I think not.

Zariko(lie)
Zariko(lie)

As a side note, I'd like to see the damage a pair of DRG's I know could do as a team, between Gretchen and Zariko, I bet there would be a non stop killing force there ^^ Not to mention I'll be the party would be entertaining^^

- For the story.

- Adventuring. Death = OK!

- Tanking. When I started the game I thought about being a DD, like a DRK or something. But I fell in love with tanking, which I didn't expect. Which is why I eventually went the route of Paladin. ^^

- For comraderie.

The Black Mage.

I love blowing sh*t up.

That is all. ^^

And, as Vim so eloquently said, because I haven't found a reason NOT to play yet.

I have goals that I want to accomplish. I want to max out my cooking. I want to see how I look in BLM AF. I want to get my ears back from Zariko *shakes a fist at him*. I enjoy the LS I'm in, and like talking to the friends I've made on FFXI. Levelling isn't a grind for me yet, and I hope it never gets to be. I'm just enjoying being able to do BCNM40s, level, craft, do quests.. all the depth of this game, all the things you can do that make you wish you had more hours to play. Or, well, that make -me- wish I had more hours to play. :)

In Lower Jueno, at the bottom of the stair case, there is a diamond-shaped yellow light that hangs down from the arch above, illuminating the steps at night, casting shadows across it.

The Goddess Tower's map of the nighttime sky lists constellations on the observatory ceiling that you can actually find in the nighttime sky.

The three small black birds that fly over the arch that the ship going to Selbina goes through in order to get to Mhaura.

The glow of the purple crystal pond in Zi'Tah, filling up the entire pond and spilling over it a little bit after a rainstorm.

The beautiful glow of the aurora boralis in Qufim right after double light days.

The Twinkle Tree lighting up with its beautiful show of blue sparkles, like blue fairies floating above and around you, over and below you during a full moon.

The rainbows that arc across La'Theine Plateau seemingly at random.

The way the feathers of a Yagudo move while the Yaggudo is standing still, pulsating with every one of its breaths in first person mode.

The plants that are on the beach in Valkrum Dunes, and bend and flex in the water each time the sea waves lap against the shore.

Taikobo forever bazaaring his way through life in Southern San D' Oria with that silly pumpkin hat on, and nothing else on. Ever.

And lastly, the beautiful sunsets at Batallia Downs, sitting on the cliffs at the south eastern corner, away from the world...

You want to know why I keep playing? I keep playing because of these things, and those things like these that I have yet to see and find.

The people are wonderful, and some of them...I know I could count among my friends here in this vr world, and perhaps even in the real world.

But the beauty of this world is first and formost forever in my mind, and is why I still play.

And so I will play ad infinitium, until death does me and this world apart.

Pssst... Nights, did you know, that if you look in the lakes of Carpenter's Landing, you can see snakes wriggling in and out of the surface of the water? It's really addicting to watch ^^

And if you haven't seen the dolphins that swim and jump alongside the Bibiki Bay tour's boat, I'll have to drag you with me to Purgonogo Island.

Which coincidently, reminds me, if you head to the eastern corner of the island, you can watch the waters change color during sunrise and sunset, from an emerald green, to a sea green and blue color.

First and foremost, I AM A FINAL FANTASY FANATIC!
I've been playing Final Fantasies since FF1 (whoops giving away my age *grins*)

This game offered for me, the first time to play a Red Mage, since the very first one, and that was probably the motivator that got me into it, in the first place. (huge Rdm fan)

That being said, FFXI is also the very first MMORPG I've ever played, so the whole experience was quite amazing and overwhealming, all at the same time.

One by one, things began to permanently hook me on this game, at first the mundane things; its graphics, the amazing variety of characters, amazing system and such. As I became more adept with the technical stuff, I had more time to start taking in the sheer awe and beauty of Vana'diel. Each new zone was something amazing, and a little bit scary to venture into. Each new mob was a great new challenge. I'd marvel at all the high-level characters I'd see run by (you know...the level 25 ones *grins*), dreaming of being like them, someday.

As more and more stories began to unfold, before me, I became more engrossed in them. That's the true enjoyment of an RPG type game, the story.

I eventually found many niches, for my various characters to fit into. I plan to carry those ambitions out, in turn, with each of them. I already wrote the short stories about each of them, and I will make them into just that.

Most importantly, I think the thing that keeps me playing this game, is something I never expected to find, within it; some very good friends. Sure, there are players who will just grind and do whatever, and to them I'm just some pixilated character that has no real meaning to them, whatsoever. The truth is, though, your characters will always be a shadow of yourself, in some way. So, even if just a little bit, I've made lots of new friends here; people to share my stories, my dreams, and my adventures with, in this great world.

Does that sound weird? Not to a genuine roleplayer. Yes, I do exist outside of Final Fantasy. But, in here, I can be, at least for a little while, that hero, that mighty warrior, that awesome spellcaster, that adventurer! I fly on airships. I cast magic. I can create things from crystals. I fight epic battles against great enemies. I can save the world! And, when I'm done, I can go to the gathering place, and meet all my friends, and just sit around talking about all the things we did, or will do, and forget the real world for a while, and have a good time, relax, and have fun.

Ok thanks Shadow and Nights... (Nights, I actually got misty reading your post.)

You both just gave me a Mog house full of reasons to keep playing and enjoying my "life" in Vana'diel. I love this game and the ppl in it. I can now play with a new set of eyes that see things a little differently.

Rate ups for both of you. :)

I play for the fun of exploring new areas. I was so darn excited going into Promyvion Holla the first time to see the new CoP stuff.

I also play to meet fun new folks like Woe and Tanshin doing exciting things like missions.

I play because my linkshell kicks ***
We're a tight knit group that would bend over backwards for each other and it would be nearly impossible for me to leave that.
yeah I guess that whole exploring gig is fun too
