In Babylonian legend, where the dragon originated, it was a female. (and D&D too, if you feel like going that route *looks away to try and conceal his geekyness*) And in FF1 too, hehe.

To know for sure, just check the battle messages when it uses his/her. I have done this during Dynamis, you'd be surprised how many of those quadavs, yagudos, and orcs are females ;) That dimensions got strong amazonian roots.
