ok, I see that people dont like chatspeak....

well think about it this way... while you are typing out congrats and everyone else uses the auto translator, then in a party situation you are creating down time


dont we already have enough down time as it is?

Personally i don't type congradulations! i just type gratz >.< or wtg...just the auto-translator makes it seem....fake...

Regarding many player's spastic auto-translating.

I'm guilty of this myself. Sometimes I use it just to short-cut and still have full words in there. Congratulations is a good example. Gratz drives me nuts, and by extension any word that has a z where no z has any right to be drives me equally insane.

Please is another good example.

At the end of the day, having those little green and red brackets in there is worlds better than plz and gratz.

Besides, I've been in the company of multi-national parties, and it certainly saves a lot of time if I can hit cong[Tab] rather than type out omedeto and congratulations both, for example.

I realize that in the company of an entirely english-speaking party using the auto-translate is somewhat moot, but I think it's good to keep the habit up. Practice makes perfect. =P

A bit of a rambling post, sorry. Haven't slept in a while. ^^

I'm gonna side with Winawer here with agreeing that the language in which we speak online is, if I understand correctly his post, an evolution of the language. It makes perfect sense in a society where waiting for a fast food order longer than 1:30 min is *gasp* unacceptable. Why not quicken the way we speak to each other. In a rush-rush world, abeit online but still holds true, we don't necessarily have time to type out full words because other priorities. Here are my reasonings:

1. multi-tasking. If you're gonna talk 2-3 people at the same time, let's face it, you just don't have the time to type all that in 'long' form.

2. Lag. Try typing perfectly in Jueno. Try it.

3. Being just plain lazy. As human nature, we will always take the path of least resistance. It's a constant you can certainly count on. If you can make your point across in a way that's easier than the next, of course you're gonna use that way.

Now when it comes to words like (lets see if I can reproduce this correctly) 11suxxox101ono11one1111 (no idea what i just said lol) but it seems to me someone just **** on the keyboard when they write something like that. Like a trained monkey randomly typing keys.

rate up just for making me laugh on a monday morning at work. Weird looks are now directed my way. HA!

The internet is not doing anything. People will learn bad grammer from just about anywhere, that includes the internet. And they will make the same mistake both on and offline.


Don't blame the internet. People have nothing to blame but themselves. If you think the Internet if evil, stop using it.

I've been playing online games for a few years now, and this topic has shown up in almost every game I've played. People calling each other out on the way their sentences are worded.

Now, I'm a pretty laid back guy. I have no problems reading 'lol' or 'rofl' or 'brt' or 'omw' or stuff like that. What really bothers me is the so-called "l33t" speak.

Stuff like 'suxxorz' or 'roxxorz' (did I get those right?) makes me cringe whenever I see them on the screen. I understand that people use these expressions to try and get across the intensity of their emotion at the time. Saying, "i was defeated" is not nearly as expressive as saying, "man, i got the sh*t beat out of me."

I try to let it slide, however. People will be people, and while I try to use proper grammar (most of the time, anyway), I too have slipped up once in a while. I'll just keep cringing and interpreting 'roxxorz' as "wow, that was freaking awesome!" and 'suxxorz' as "that sucked more than an Amsterdam *****."

Incidentally, I hate using the term 'lol'. I've always prefered 'hahaha'. 3 ha's are the standard. More for when I'm really laughing hard, or a simple 'heh' for the smirk or chuckle. Isn't that wierd?

That's a good point, Nata. As soon as you said it, it clicked, and I realized "Hey! That's a good point!" ^^

I dunno what it is about 'lol' that I don't like. If you were to sit me down and do a 3 hour psychological profile, you wouldn't be able to figure it out (because you'd get bogged down with all the other sh*t that's in my head, but anyway...).

It's gonna drive me nuts again, trying to pinpoint the origin of my distaste for that term... oh well, another wasted 2 hours of my life. Thanks, Nata. ^^

Just to throw a little something up here. I mentioned pogo.com in my last post, and have decided as of today to start logging the chats that I see...namely because they ALL seem to be in the wrong conduit when they come up. People will talk about the most private stuff in these "rooms" and not care.

And so, my first entry

Note the typos, use of abbreviations, and inappropriate conversation piece for being in a room of over 25 people. This is where the majority of the nation's education is.

I have no idea what that conversation was about...at all. Not even a clue. From what I read..it seems someone was having bad day? and cops were involved. That's it.
