saw a good idea....Follow

#1 Oct 27 2004 at 11:01 PM Rating: Excellent
saw a good idea that may work to get SE to cut the heads off of ige and their mob of gil farmers...

someone said to just write the gaming mag's, spamming them with our hate for gil farmers... to start out with I have dug up a couple of mag's and got addys to send these messages to, but the more the better

what I would like everyone to do is, check this list, see if you know of other mag's to mail/email, and post the addys. I will updated this post with the addys as they come in

and secondly EVERYONE that cares about the game should take 20 min and write up a good email (or word doc) and start sending them

please submit good addys, this is our game, lets take it back

<edit>
also wanted to mention... ige is using this tactic too... to advertise their gil selling, be nice if the mag's knew that they were helping ige break the ToS of our fine game
</edit>

Here's another one to add to the list, taken from maximumpc.com:

Watchdog
watchdog@maximumpc.com
If you've been wronged by a PC vendor, send a full description of your complaint to the Watchdog. Please include your full name, home town, and telephone number. Letters may be edited for space and clarity. Due to the large amount of email we receive, we cannot personally respond to each letter.

*rate up*
I know I am going to write several emails and send them out. The more companies we can add to this list, the better.

I like to give credit where credit is due, and I had mentioned that this is someone elses idea, so here is the quote and the thread I found it in

Here's another thought. All the game publications have an area for letters from gamers. Perhaps we should start writing all of them. More than likely some of our letters would be published.

Lol yeah that was me. /blush

I was gonna do this, but got distracted by other concerns.

Here's some more.

opm@ziffdavis.com
gmr@ziffdavis.com

i was gonna list psm's, but it would appear that psm no longer lists letters, so meh.

The important thing is to be respectful and intelligent in your wordage. It does us little good if we come off as slobbering fools (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!11ONE)

^^

It also might be worth writing to those companies which continue to run advertisement for companies like IGE. Such as www.gamefaqs.com

It's like advertising for the mafia.

Take it outside of Allakhazam too. Post it at penny-arcade, post it at 1up. Just be respectful about it ^^.

Thanks for getting on the ball when I fell off it taliph. rate up.

Could you perhaps update your OP from time to time to show a thus-far compiled list of companies to contact?

Also, anyone who receives any of these publications, it would be great to let us know if they run some of our letters.

Finally, it would be a powerful motivating force to these various publications to inform them surreptitiously (via a cc: at the bottom) of exactly how many of their competitors have the same letter.

Thanks all. =)

If interest grows, perhaps we could request that it be stickied.

Couple of other mags that come to mind. Don't have the addresses for them though.

Play
GamePro
EGM

This also is a shamless bump.

/jobability Bump <t>

Edit: Incidentally taliph, the two email addresses I gave earlier are for Official Playstation Magazine and, well, GMR (I have no idea what this stands for).

Anyone have an email for SE directly? We could just make it a habit to email them directly every week, they'd eventually get tired of all the clutter and maybe do something :)

Just a thought, but the title of this thread doesn't let anyone know what it's all about. I've linked it a few places to try and increase traffic, but ultimately, if you want to stop having to bump it and want to get more people interested (and possibly get it stickied), making a new thread (now before this one gets too big) with an appropriate eye-catching title might be beneficial.

Also, if someone posted a suggested template for a letter in a nice professional format that people could just copy paste, add their own thoughts, and send en masse, and posted it in the main topic along with all the email addresses/mailing addresses, this might catch on quicker. People love convenience ^^

Emails to playonline tech support generate automatic responses that ask you to answer questions you already answered for several months, until a tech finally gets around to taking a look at it.

Generally speaking this would not be an effective place to email. The delete button is a powerful tool for the forces of the dark side. =P

I'd like an email address for S-E's CEO.

Another possibility is to write actual physical letters. For some reason they tend to get more notice than a bunch of bits and bytes. I wager if Square got a lot of letters from angry folks complaining about them not enforcing their own Terms of Service, something might happen.

So far the only snail mail address I've found for Square in the US is:

Square Enix, Inc.
6060 Center Dr. Suite 100
Los Angeles, CA 90045

Maybe doing both can't hurt.

Emailing should probably be fine as far as mail to the various gaming publications goes, but physical letters mailed to Square-Enix wouldn't be a bad idea at all. Especially in large quantities.

Anybody think of adding online gaming sites to this list? Such as Gamespot.com - and any others people may think of (my brain isn't working atm..too much work w/o having lunch yet, and it's 3:30pm Smiley: cry )

*hmm..having a hard time finding pertinent contact info for Gamespot, but it's still a thought ^.^
