Before I started playing the game there were some kids in my college Japanese class talking about the game. Me being a EQOA player I brushed the comments to the side not thinking much of them. 2 weeks later I just happened to see a FFXI (ps2) popup on my computer and descided to check it out. The screenshots immediatly grabbed my attention and started reading about: Subjobs, skillchains, food items, and the other different things that arent in everquest. A week later the ps2 version came out and I immediatly bought it. Me being a dial-up user I had to wait 2 weeks before I had a friend download the 1st patch to the game, because of a pol0010 error.

After the 2 weeks I finaly got in! The next day at class, one of my classmates was talking about their LS "TheGS", I threw myself into the conversation saying "I just got the game yesterday, any tips?" One of the guys there, "Jafar", as I would know him by in the game, said he would give me a "Bismak World Pass" the next day. Heh, me being a gaming nerd I couldn't wait ^^;. So I created a new character, saw what server she was in, then deleted her over and over again. Apparently Bismark is a older server with a lotta people in it, because it took me 3 hours to get in it ~:/.

3 days later in the game I met another person in La' Thiene Plateu named "Felys" who had in his hand a TheGS pearl for me. Over the next few weeks I became friends with such characters as Nevah, Discostu, Lithium, Yukio, Silverbane, Widepart, Gaiseric, and others. We would do LS Eco Runs weekly, group logging in Junger, and misc quest help for eachother. After 4 months the LS became 30 people at a time online strong and having the time of my FFXI life. Then Jafar suddenly said, "Sorry guys, I have lost the will to play the game anymore..." and just as quickly as it seemed to have begun, it started to fall apart. The LS leader, Felys had personal reasons why he couldn't play for a while, then Nevah was involved in moving and college. Gaiseric started to take over as the LS "Leader" in Felys' absense. But alas the financial obligations of the game got him in the long run. After the core leaders left, the LS started to drift apart...

A week later I by chance run into Silverbane in Crawlers Nest, he begins to tell me that the core membership has created a new LS called "Tainted Hearts" and hands me a pearl. Ah,.. to be home again is a good feeling. By this time my max character at the time was the 40 drg, but after playing that to death I started out as a Paladin. In a brief conversation in LS chat I make a sarcastic comment (in jest of course) and it was taken as a insult by a person not even in the conversation. Thus Kyotokombat was booted from the LS. My pleas go unheard to the LS leaders: Silverbane, Solamis, Aluus...

2 weeks pass and I by chance run into Aluus. He tells me that his sister Alysaan mis heard what I said, and wants to apologise to me. Internal politics now occur where Aluus starts to power trip on us and a new LS is created "Family Affair". This time i'm lvling up Ninja in valkrum and the LS wants to start up a eco run in San'doria. Me being a 14 Ninja at the time lets them know where I am and it could take a while getting there since my Hp is in Selbina. I tell my pt I gotta go, but tell them who is replacing, blah blah blah and I'm off to san'doria. 15 min goes by and I'm 1/2 way accross La'Thiene and the LS starts to talk about who is going where in the pt's and what jobs we have, blah blah blah. I ask "What job do you want me to bring?" and I keep getting the answer "Whatever you want." then I ask "Well, what jobs do we have?" the reply goes as "Why don't you write them down?" me being a 14 ninja trying to walk my way though the Plateu without getting a orc to agro me tells the LS as so. They begin to write them down and after it is all done they ask, "So, Kyo... what job are you bringing?" I reply as I did before by saying, "What do we need?" They start calling me childish and a baby for me planning ahead. A arguement ensues and I am yet again booted out of the LS.

In the next few weeks the member base of "Family Affair" starts to dwindle. I go back home to Windurst (which i never do ^^;) and see in my storage the "TheGS" pearl that Felys gave to me 6 months ago. I equip it and find "Bloutain", "Widepart", and soon "Lithium" are still there. Bloutain tells me that he wants theGS to be back to where it used to be. He continues on by saying that the only reason why he plays the game anymore is because there might be a chance that Nevah and Felys could start it up again. After searching for another LS in the previous month of me playing, I realise that I never had to do any searching after all. Soon more members started to come back, I belive there are about 10 of us in all, but to go to a place called home is a good feeling.

There are no lvl 60+'s in the LS or anyone above rank 5, but every time I equip the pearl I get a taste of what it was like in the glory days of TheGS.

thats rough ;;

I was in a similar situation, i started up because a few friends played and i joined up with them into a linkshell. The leader soon left and members gradually drifted and my RL friends stopped playing. We had about 5 active members left only 3-4 of which would generally be on at one time. Still it was great we were close, there was no bickering etc.

One of my good friends in game then had to go for military training and another simply dropped off the face of the earth. At that time it was perhaps myself and 1 other person on at any given time. I was getting to the point where i would need genkei and AF soon and 1 person was not gonna be enough.

I had spoken with singular prior after seeing him on the boards alot. He gave me a pearl and i joined up with what is now IntensityLS. This is the most fun i have had since i started. there is a lot of comraddery(sp?) and teamwork here. There is hardly any politics/bickering and things just go smoothly. The member base is building now with hopes to soon begin God fights and Dynamis.

I have heard of some of the other LS's that are gaining size and participating in HNM camps etc suffering from a lot of power tripping and fighting. All i bcan say is this, if you are in an LS and someone calls you a name like "baby" or whatever, espescially for trying to be prepared, and it is clearly not in jest. That is your cue to drop the pearl or speak with the leader. Your LS is supposed to support you.

Also keep in mind that this is your game, and if the LS doesn't function in a way that keeps YOU happy then you should move on.

The game is about fun, those that take the fun away should be /slap'd and /shot.

The problem with just up and dropping a LS like that is, basically those are the only people that I know. It's hard to find a LS that you can just pop in and be "one of the guys". Besides TheGS, I have been offered 2 other LS', "AegisOfTheMeek", and "Highlanders". Both have nice people in it, but its still going to take some time where I can have the same type of relationship that I have had in other LS. But I guess those type of LS only come around every so often, I really shouldn't complain about it and just try to make new friends like you did TseTsuo. I hope I have the same luck you did ^^. Thanks for reading the post.

A wonderful tale, and I mean it will all my heart. (Rate up^^)

I have had problems with my starting ls, DWP, whom those of you will remember me speaking out about when this forum was in Tse's journal. It has gone through many changes, some better, most worse. It has been gutted clean of all the veteran players (who all decided to pick up and go to "The Fallen Angels", not that I totally blame them for their decision lol). Even though it is not my home now, I still drop in and offer my advice whenever I can, and help out where I can.

Thanks for sharing with us Kyotokombat.
