yesterday I had to kick a Ninja from my 42 Wars PT cuz he didnt have Utsusemi: Ni. Yeah, its cold, but he couldnt tank, hell i couldve tanked better as War/Nin.

My god, that's sick. There's no excuse for a NIN not to have Utsu: Ni at 37. That is the spell that enables you to go from duo tanking, to solo tanking. Ugh, that's horrible. /disgusted

I'm back in college and I can only play on weekends right now. As anyone who knows me will tell you, I haven't been leveling since school started up again. Why?

I've been farming. Yes, it blows, but I want my first Sniper's Ring and I also want to have Vassago's Scythe ready for when I eventually hit 58. I haven't even done Genkai 1 yet because all I do is farm anymore. When winter break rolls around, then I'll go back to leveling. Trust me, I miss it. I love being in battle and swinging that scythe and killing shit, and eventually I'll get back to it.

In the meantime I'll just keep farming.

The no leveling thing isn't entirely true. I did start working on THF this weekend, figuring that I might as well get started on that and get it to 37 ASAP, because I can't stand it. No offense to any THFs out there. More power to you.

32 DRK here, and I haven't leveled DRK in three weeks? Why.

Farming
Leveling THF (to farm and then to sub under DRK post60)
Building Cooking.

That's one thing I love about the game, is that there is SOOO much to do besides leveling <3

wow I had no idea so many people would respond to my litte thread ><

in response to the "give people a break comment" let me say this. I do not expect everyone to be walking around with the greatest gear in the game. Some people take a lot of pride in their character and deck it out insanley, others play for fun and recreation, and get what they can on limited time/budget. However if you choose a certain job you have to understand that there are expectations that come with that job, as this is a MULITPLAYER game, and other people rely on you. A rdm has 2 expectations, dispel and refresh. I am a 54 war/nin, and I took the time off to lvl nin to 37 so I wouldnt have to bother with it ever again. Obviosuly since it was my sub and not my main I didnt treat it with such care in regards to gear, but how would you feel if the 30 nin tank (same amount of lvls from when I could use blink as the rdm could have used dispel) said they didnt have blink. You'd be friggin pissed, because you called them out there to tank. Dont honestly tell me that you would say "well maybe he doesnt have enough time to farm blink, so lets just let him tank without it" because that is a lie. That is why I was mad. We got a rdm to refresh our mages and pld, and dispel the beetles and anticans. I dont mind people not having insanley expensive gear, but there are certian base spells/gear that each job will need at some point, and it is your responsiblity to afford and obtain them if you want to be part of a MULTIPLAYER environment.

ya know...

if you don't like their equips or their spells, don't pt with them.

similar to the economy, you have a vote, you have buying power.

if a rdm doesn't have dispel, and no one pts with him, he will go and get dispel.

sorry, opinionated night tonight. had my first irritating Whine-But-Don't-Accept-Kind-&-Well-Meant-Advice ls member tonight.

I have an LS buddy, who was constantly broke, his gear was good for a 30war, but he had a lvl 1 sub and wanted to become a PLD. My advice to him was start crafting and farming so he had the gil to outfit his pld. I helped him do the PLD quest and now he has a great sub and guess what? He took my advice, has great gear and as of last night has saved 40K, farmin and craftin. Man what a change in his demeanor in game. He happier and having a more rounded and fulfilling game experience. The bottom line is, just go out and experience everything this game has to offer and you'll get a good return on your investment of time, be it with great gear, important spells, or whatever. Try to enjoy it all and you'll probably have more fun and more success.

Just my 2gil.

At around level 30, I had to took 2 weeks off to mine. I haven't started any crafting and not very good at farming =\. I was very underequipped and was getting resisted a whole lot. Wasn't caught up on my spells either. I felt like a drain to my PTs so I stopped lvling and mined for 2 weeks and made around 200K. (I don't play much either.) Spent it all in a matter of minutes but i got my shiny new seers gear, solid wand, black cape and some spells ^^. Mined again a couple weeks ago and now I am almost caught up with all my spells up to lvl 40. missing only 3 which i should get very soon. As soon as I hit 40 and do some BCNMs i'll take that gil and start crafting.

My job is a BLM and it's my part in the PT to bring the mob's hp down. If i'm getting resisted too often or don't have the spells, then i'm not doing my job and of no use to the PT. A RDM's job is to Refresh the PT and Dispel the mob. If the RDM doesn't have those two spells, then he's not doing his job affectively if at all.

just my two gils. hope i wasn't rambling too much. i tend to do that =P

As a Blm your only job isnt "Bring the mob's hp down" ^_^

Yes, that's what you do best.... but you have many more responsibilities while in a party! Recognize!

This is one thing that has extremely annoyed me about this game. Some jobs can get away with damn near anything. Mages and tanks can leech and gimp their way to 75 easily. I've partied with a 58 RDM that was in full vagabond as his xp gear. I've had tanks with gimped subs and gimped armor. I've had tons of mages that lack important spells. But god forbid a melee class doesn't have the absolute best of everything they can. If you don't have the best gear possible, you can expect to LFG for countless hours. Take for example DRKs. DRKs can barely get a party invite unless they have all their best gear i.e. 2 snipers, Haubergeon, Bomb Core, Assault Earring, Life Belt. This is over 3 million gear worth of equipment. If you don't have it, you won't get invites. Our resident LS whm is always saying that he's proud that he works so hard at his white mage because "I could easily gimp WHM to 75, but I choose not to." Lots of mages don't share that opinion though. Why spend the time to farm gil for erase, raise 2, staves? Not like you need any of that to get invites.

Just something that annoys me. Sorry for the rant. =\

I try my hardest to get the best gear and up to date spells. I don't like slacking... gimping my way through levels. I'm there to do my damn job, and do it well while keeping my party members in shock. Because I own so damn much. I feel your pain Kulgan, well not really I'm not a melee...

I wasn't intending on making it seem like all mage jobs are lazy gimps, I know lots of really good, hard-working mage and tank playing people. Mages jobs are more necessary than melees and since there's tons of melee jobs out there, party leaders can be very picky about who they invite. Thus melees who are behind in their gear get left behind. On thing that really sucked for me growing up as a DRK was all the people that were leveling up secondary jobs and what not. These people could afford all the best gear so naturally they got picked before me. Leveling as a melee character is extremely frustrating at times. I see tons of people that I knew as DRKs, DRGs, MNKs etc who have switched to "easier" jobs. Personally, I feel that anyone that can manage to get a melee job to 75 is a pretty good player because they have to be damn near the best they can be to reach high levels with those jobs. So to all of you melees out there that are struggling and frustrated and whatnot because of how hard it is to level up your job, I say stick with it if you can. Do what you enjoy, be the job that you want to be. Don't force yourself to change to something easier because it's difficult to level. You'll take pride in knowing that you busted your *** to get your job to 75. I know I do.^^

haha yes, i know it's not the ONLY job i do but i do that best. and that's what a pt seeks when they get me. ^^ i dish out my fare share of debuffs and cures and will sleep the occasional add. but yeah, i'm always trying to learn how to play my job better. if you've got some tips, send em my way ^_^

As a RDM, it makes me sad to see what lengths other RDM (and all staple jobs) can go to and get away with. I pride myself on having the best equip I can at any given time (double astrals, light, ice, dark staves, rk belt, morions, yadda), and I take it as a personal insult if a player in a certain job, especially a job I've grown to love, has the "I can do whatever I want and parties will still invite me," attitude.

Yeah, Dispel is expensive at a low level. But you know what? Ask a friend if you can borrow some mining gear. Go to Yughott Grotto or Zeruhn Mines with some pickaxes. I guarantee you'll make the money you need in a day, two days. Every time I've gone mining, I've come out of those two places with easily 40k worth of ores, and sometimes 100k+ from mining in Ifrit's Cauldron. Mining is one of the easiest ways to earn money even with the underhanded tactics people use. There's no excuse not to have essential spells like Dispel, Refresh, Haste. Phalanx I can see not having, because after all.. you should really only be using it when you're soloing, so only you will feel the repercussions of it.
