Question on pt makeupFollow

Looks like we are redoing the static (again). What we have so far is WHM, PLD & BLM. Just wondering what would be the best jobs to round out our set. We've always had RDM, DRG & WAR but we were pondering going with BRD over RDM. Since I have not pt'd with a brd since around lvl 25, I'm not sure if this would be ideal.
This is not a recruitment thread, merely looking for ideas.

Hey Jub I would have to say the very best pt set up I been in so far was Rdm-Brd-Blm-Nin-Rng and me but I think a Mnk would be better than me at higher lvl. In what you got I think is really good I would go Brd Rng and either a War or Mnk. Rng works really good in all chains but does not have a lvl 3 dark. War and mnk are the only two that can do both Drk and Light chains with a A weapon.(mnk hands war Gaxe and Axe). Level 3 WS start at 66 so It is something to think of. If there is room you no I would love to get back into your static but I do understand if you want to look else where. I have a Rng that wants to start a static so and I am talking to a Brd now 2. Have Krack call me if you want.

Sorry to hear about you having to redo your static party again. I feel your pain. As me and Yosh are only lvl 51 right now, I don't know if I can offer you much advice.

Our static is once again back at 4 people. I love RDM for sure and I love MNK's as well. Too bad we weren't a little higher. I partied with a bard in my lower static and I loved it! And this was with my sub sub NIN.

Look for a quality person. We've decided that that we are no longer going to try to recruit on this board. Rather we are going to pick up the last 2 slots on the nights we party and if things go good, then possibly ask that person to static.

Good luck and hopefully you'll get some advice from players that are a little higher in level than me.

To add to what you have already (as long as the PLD can be a hate machine): BRD, RNG/WAR, RNG/WAR. Most. Damage. Ever.

EDIT: Yeah, I just had to add that if you imagine those 2 RNGs doing renkei together with Berserk on...Heh. If you've ever partied with one decent RNG, you can imagine what two doing renkei together is like. o.O;;

The BRD is there to of course do some Preludes and Ballads to keep the party going forever. ^^

You already have your tank, healer, and one damage dealer. I don't know anything about melee since I play mostly mages but I'm sure you can find some combination of damage dealers who's skillchains will be effective against the mobs you fight.

The main question you seem to have is RDM vs. BRD. You said you've always partied with a RDM so I don't need to tell you how great Refresh is and how great their enfeebling is. What BRDs do for you is kind of similar. They have a song called Mages Ballad that gradually restores MP for the people within the AOE. They also have songs like Victory March that increase the attack speed for members within AOE and Knight's Minne that increases the defense for members in AOE. They have other songs that do other different effects such as enhancing evaions, attack accuracy, various defenses, attack, and lower various resistances of the monsters. They usually sub WHM for healing spells to back up the WHM. I have often heard from my high level BRD friend that BRDs make a party of 6 fight like a party of 7. I haven't partied with a BRD so you'll have to try it out and see for yourself but I've definately heard good things about them.

I hope this helps.

You have: WHM, PLD & BLM

All 3 jobs are very mana dependent. Expecially PLD. BRD always have hard time giving PLD ballads without overwriting melee damager's attack buff songs. So you might want a RDM instead of BRD.

I think you should be best with:
WHM PLD BLM + RDM RNG + (Melee)

Melee slot could be SAM DRK DRG MNK. THF is not really needed with a PLD tank. You should look at the renkei chart and exp mob type to determine the best skill chain and from that get the best melee job to take.

BRD and RDM go hand in hand, you can go with either one. I've even partied with a RDM/BRD and if done correctly it can be very beneficial.

I know for basics you want WHM BLM (RDM or BRD) and PLD.

You can even go with WHM BRD RDM as long as your RDM has high elemental magic, there will be no down time, but you will kill a little slower.

For Melee, I find MNK RNG are great with Raging Fists > Sidewinder as a renkei, but you can not have Distortion in this combo. (a very highly overrated SC).

And if hate is an option, DRG THF might play a great Melee role.

THF sticks hate on PLD, and can be tricked off of the rest of the fight using his Wyvurn to shead the Aggro.

Also, you realy need to look at the situation, you are not going to want THF DRG against skeletons. So you can have a good PT set up, but depending on the mob, it will never be a perfect set up.

Chances are you WILL want a PLD (NIN are good, but not as reliable for holding Aggro without a THF) A WHM (Or suffer the consequences of only having Raise I, and lots of unremovable status effects) a nuker (RDM or BLM) and a support (RDM or BRD and sometimes SMN) The Melee are prtty interchangeable, try to pick Melee that are effective towards the mob you intend to kill.

Thank you for the ideas all! Your views are helping me see past the RDM-DRG-WAR our set has always had. The RDM vs. BRD is just the first step.

^^^This is exactly what I'm thinking now.

You have played enough to know what works well and what doesn't in a pt. And you have something in your set that we didn't. MNK. So your opinion on how you work within the pt would be quite helpful.

Lyliandra - Thank you. That's more than I knew about BRD.
I think I'll start reading the 101 for all jobs now. Guess it wouldn't hurt to know the basics of the other jobs before we decide.

RE: SAM how do you like them for DD?

Ok! Ok! I just didn't want to "taint" the results because I am a MNK.

1. First you know MNK's are strong against skelly's.

2. I generally sub THF because my static lets me, but have heard that WAR is a much better sub in terms of straight DD.

3. SATA onto a PLD is wonderful and really helps with the hate. I only use when I am leveling my sub until my main gets to lvl 60.

4. We've had a few DRK's in some of our more recent parties and I can say that a good one can deal more damage than a MNK, plus they have STUN that can help stop some of that Ancient Magic. (You probably already know that being a BLM and all.)

5. I can't tell you how many time's Yoshi's convert has saved my ***. And how dispel really helps when I see my hits go from an average of 50-75 to 0-13.

6. We actually like having our PLD serve as our main tank, although now that I have Counterstance, + Counter equipment, and a higher level of HP's than most in my party, I can do limited tanking if we get into trouble. NOTE: I try not to steal hate and as I don't have provoke this generally isn't a problem.

7. We've kind of discovered that over the long term that last DD spot can almost be filled by anything. When we pickup members to party, we try to look for jobs that are helpful against the mobs we are fighting.

That's all I can really think of for now. I will update after I discuss further with Yosh.
