I was thinking if anyone is as much as a closet Final Fantasy player as I am? How many people know you are addicted to a video game? As for me only about 2 of my friends know about it. My past 2 girl friends had NO idea that i play this game, they just thought i was watching tv or sleeping.

LOL I'm way out of the closet.. my current love snagged me because of this game. I walked by his computer, saw it going and went "OOOOH, what's this??" My roommate says I play too much but she still pretends to be politely interested in how lil miss Iverin is doing ^^

All of my friends know. They think it's odd that I'm a girl who is so addicted to this game. My away message on AIM constantly says I am playing FFXI and some of my friends have come to the conclusion that the only way we are gonna talk, is if they play FFXI. Then of course they get addicted and it all works out in the end.

As a female I must say, it would go something like "Will trade gil 4 sex"

J/K ^^ Get her into the other FF games first ^^ lol

I like to watch... people play video games. Just tempt her be like "Look at this little taru.... she's so adorable... see? yeah club the bunny, go taru go!!"

OR

"Ohhhh yeah Mithra... now that's my favorite race! Honey why can't you move like OW OW STOP HITTING ME!!"

^^ I also provide marriage counseling for in-game couples.... ;-)

Luckily now that I'm back at college, I talk to a couple people who are Final Fantasy geeks in general and FFXI geeks in particular. It's funny to sit at the lunch table and discuss the game with this one guy I know, because my other friend just sits there and gets this look his face, sort of a "What in the fuck are you guys talking about" look. He'll later bust my balls and go, "So, that stack of lumber sell?" or something of that nature. He's lucky he's a good friend and in the same program as me, or I'd take out my scythe and show him who's boss. ~.^ lmfao.

So, yeah, now I'm back at college and I'm the "cool older dude that plays Final Fantasy (or any video games for that matter)." I think I give hope for all the younger video game dorks on campus. lmfao.

So, no, I'm not in the closet at all. My problem usually is finding someone to talk to about the game. Then the problem is having the discussion come to a close because it's time to go to class.

You actually go to class....?

And everyone I know is aware of my FFXI... tendancies. (I'm not addicted... I'm not addicted... I'm not addicted...)

Yeah, right.

I'd like to think that I should be, but sadly, only because it seems to my parents (and the parents of other individuals with which I play) seem to have this odd misconception that video games are bad for you, but watching TV for the same amount of time, or just sitting on your PC doing something else is much healthier. Hell, it's interactive, social even, but there's a large problem with me doing it, seems a bit backwards. O.o;

Yeah, I actually do go to class, except for the one on Friday, because it's late in the day and the professor doesn't take attendace anyways. This allows me to skip having to deal with rush hour traffic when I decide to go home for the weekend. This also allows me to start playing FFXI earlier in the day. Also allows me in some cases to head home on Thursday afternoons and get another whole day in of game play.

Yeah, I'm addicted...but, I figure, since I'm paying $13 a month (maybe even 14, if I do decide to break down and buy a mule) I might as well get as much game time in as I can.

Lol, not really closet at all. I'm always trying to convince my friends to play.

My parents have always hated video games. They feel I'm addicted, that it's bad for me, yada yada yada. After my first three months of play I figured out that I had logged over 400 hours of play.

I was rambling about the game to my mom (like I said, I'm not closet), and I mentioned that.

She got this look on her face and said in this snooty voice, "Don't you think there's something wrong with that?"

I replied, "Well, let me ask you this. How much TV do you think you've watched in the last 3 months."

She thinks about this for a long while, then grudgingly replies, "Something over 400 hours..."

"I rest my case. At least my hobby is interactive."

Made my day.

Let's just say all my friends (who don;t play) refer to FFXI as "Crack" and leave it at that.

Not closeted.

No way.

There is not a single person in my college dorm...or the dorm across from me...who has not heard the beat of San D' Oria through my speakers when I am playing.^^

I even play TetraMaster while i am doing homework now.

Maybe I am addicted...

Nah.

Gah, I hated Tetra Master. Which is odd, because i generally like card games.

Glad someone puts it to some use though, it looks kinda lonely, sitting there unused on my HDD all the time ; ;
