I finally ventured into the new CoP areas and I tried my hand at clamming. Very exciting at first, I was running around like I was crazy. Then I started "clamming".....

Did I miss the whole point of this? or maybe I just haven't had any luck yet, but all I've gotten are Bibiki Slugs and Jacknifes (a fishy thing, not an actual knife >< )

Then 2 digs in, my 2 LS mates' buckets broke and they lost everything they had dug up. And it takes 3 hours (in game) to repair your bucket. I cut my loses and took home 2 Bibiki slugs and a Jacknife.

Has anyone else tried this yet and maybe had better luck? Or atleast gotten a different item? I'm interested to know if this is actually worth trying again.

One of my LS mates tried this, but I never aksed what the process was, what she used or if it was worth her time.

When I first heard about this "clamming" it immediately drug up memories of Summerfest goldfish scooping, and I </shrugged> and forgot all about it.

I wanted to try it out but have no idea where or how you can do it. Think you could fill me in Eleus?

Clamming is a fun way to kill time. The island I was on had easy spots, but it's a pain when your bucket breaks and you lose all your shellfish. Last time I went, a japanese war invited me to help kill the large shellfish on the beaches (he was farming shells and needed me to remove the rather viscious poison). I suggest going out if you've time to kill and some gil to burn. A nifty way to see the sites.

Whenever my bucket broke I talk to the mithra again and she ******* at me and then I talked to her agian and she will give me the clamming kit again for 500. I don't think it take 3hrs cause I broke 3 buckets in a row in a very short time.

Yoshi and I tried this on our last trip to Bibiki Bay. Here's our results:

1. A bucket can hold about 6-7 items depending on their weight. Any more and they "will" break.

2. Tropical Clams are worth about 5,000 to an NPC. If you get one of those take your bucket back right away, so it doesn't break on heavier items.

3. A clamming spot can be used more than once. There are several of them around the island and they seem to reset after a certain period of time.

4. There's no penalty for breaking a bucket. You can buy another directly after and keep clamming.

5. We've gotten other various items that may be worth something, but they always seem to happen on the 6-7th item and the bucket breaks.

i have been clamming.. i did it the first day i got CoP..
i actually made a profit on it.. i sold my stack of jacknifes for 10k at the AH. i got like 3 tropical clams.. i have even gotten HQ crab shells..

it just takes some time and patience to get used to it.. each bucket can hold 50 ponzes. you just have to figure out how much each item weighs is all, and get lucky and not pick up a ingenous rock.. those weigh 40 ponzes, and will usually break your bucket..

its all about time, patience, and a little bit of luck.

Hmmmmm I wonder if this will be easier if you use a THF or THF sub for fast travel using Flee.

I have THF subbed and I used Flee from one point to another. It didn't really make that big of a difference.

Note: Yoshi got all the Tropical Clams! I didn't get a single one!

Yes i hope there will be a weight list soon, out of the 3 times I broke bucket the rock was one of the item and usually it broke on the fourth item. The only spot i tried was the beach near the Clamming NPC. Seem that it reset once every min or 2 after a person tries to clam.

I had seen a weight list somewhere, whether it was the main forum or not, I cannot remember. Anyways, it gave the listing of all the possibly catches while clamming, as well as the pounzes (or however the hell you spell it). Wish I could remember the link, because I was going to print out the info before I even attempted to clam.

If you talk to the Npc while clamming and say you are not done yet, she will tell you what your bucket weighs.

For those of you who want to try this but don't know where:

I went to Bibiki Bay (In Buburimu), took the island tour boat (Manaclipper) to the other side (Polagaleos Islands or something like that, but it's still part of Bibiki Bay zone). When you get off the Manaclipper, there is an NPC to your left, she gives you your Clamming Kit for 500 gil.

From there on, you run around the shores looking for Clamming Points (like harvesting/mining/logging etc.. points). Click on them and it will ask you if you want to dig. You'll either come up with an item, it'll tell you someone has already dug there, or your bucket might break >< (If it breaks the NPC will fix it but she tells you it will take 3 in-game hours).

When you're done you hand the bucket back into the NPC and you keep all the items you dug up.

(I went back and tried it again, some of the items do sell for reasonable gil in stacks.....Oh! and special thanks to the guy at SE that thought it would be hilarious to hide a Kraken behind a rock RIGHT beside a clamming point /slap).

I have been to 3 or 4 of the beaches there, nothing seemed to aggro except the kraken, which can be avoided pretty easily.

I didn't exactly explore all over, and I understand there are some goblin martial artist somewhere there, so be careful.

Beware the big sea snails poison, it is mean, and lasts a long time, takes like 20 hp a tick.

This was posted as possible catches on another thread somewheres in the midst of all threads. As stated before, you can carry only a max of 50 pounze. Buddy who had posted this info used a good analogy; It's like playing blackjack, go over your limit, you lose (or your bucket breaks in this instance.) You want to get as close to 50 pounzes to get the best return cause once you turn in your bucket, you got to pay another 500 gil to play again (so don't go turn in your bucket after you catch 2 slugs cause you'll be losing money). The price beside item is what they would sell for back to the NPC after you turn them in. I haven't tried this yet but will as soon as i finish the 10000000 other things i have to get done. Hope the info i found helps you all.

edit: pebbles were only sold back for 1 gil (should have kept reading damn low attention span)

Ooh, thanks for the Info Vimien.

I didn't know about the 50pz limit. I think I'll have to give it a third go now that I know that.

Vimien, you are an Elvaan and a scholar. That is the exact list that I had seen before. Thank you for posting that here. Now I'll be able to head out to the Bay and try my hand at clamming.

I'll drop you a line when I get back into Vana'diel next Thursday. I have to do some leveling at some point, as the fiasco that happened to me last Sunday night effective killed my cushion. But a trip out to the Bay sounds like a good idea. I've not been there yet and exploring/farming sure is a better use of the little bit of time I get to play the game anymore than sitting around Jeuno for hours at a time with my flag up and my thumb up my ***.

If you still need anymore of those Genkai 1 pieces come next Thursday, maybe we can take care of that as well.

Is there any aggro to watch out for? I'm a relatively low level (32), and was wondering how safe it would be for me to run around clamming. If this question seems silly, forgive me, I haven't gotten a chance to explore much of CoP yet.

Don't go too far out. I was lvl 37 when I went, and no aggro. But I also stayed away from the Kraken on one of the beaches.

Deeper in the island there is aggro, and also as you first enter from buriburma there are gobs that can be a wee bit tough.

Watch out for those Clots too...those things hurt!!!
I was 48 when I was on that island, for reference. It aggroed my 42 Whm friend.

Oh, and a personal curiosity:
What's the deal with that broken down Orcish War Machine in the middle of the island?

When I went, the prices were slightly different. Such as the Jacknife being 110 for me, and the Tropical Clam 5.2 gil. Perhaps fame affects the prices?

Your fame in certain cities affect your buying and selling price.

I don't know about selling the stuff that you clam, do you sell to any npc for that price listed or to the mithra npc that gave you the bucket? If to any NPC, then fame might be the reason for price fluctuation.

I've only tried selling to the mithra that stands to the left of the docks (facing the docks). She's the closest buying NPC.
