Well I have been on the ship a lot of times, and have had pirates attack on a few of those journey's. Last night was my very first time on deck when they attacked. I was helping out an LS member with the BRD quest and we left from Selbina. We were up on deck and the ship was on its way, when "the drums" hit, I really love that music. Anyway, he, 32 RDM, starts heading for the hold, while I, 32 PLD, stay on deck to watch.

The Pirate ship comes along side and I say in pt "get your **** back here". It wasnt so bad at first, one or two crossbones head onto our ship, bah no problem, right?

Well they came and came and kept coming, after the third one my bud was down. Well I dunno how many crossbones we're on me but I wasn't about to give up and run. I hit my 2hr and just started whacking away and praying trying to keep myself healed. There were several others on the ship and I am truely sorry for I cannot add there names here, because they really deserve it. The kept me alive and going. Heals and protects. I just kept swinging at anything that got in my way.

In the end I probably had one of the best times in the game so far, yes I knwo that if those others didn't heal me or weren't there it would have been a totally different story, but they were and I would like to thank them once again.

Oh, and next time I hear those drums.... I'm staying in the hold.

37 warrior here, and on last trip boat was attacked by pirates. Guess what I did? I hid in the captains room and watched those who can handle many monsters of crossbone and shipwight level without a party backing them up.

Until I hit 45, I will just stay away from pirates.

I only saw pirates once, when I was only lvl 24.
SO, Ive never had a chance to fight them, but it sounds like lots of fun.

Maybe I'll ride the boat more often.

I was doing the Rycharde quest where you had to go to Valkurm and talk to the guy to have him try the pizza. Hopped the boat and wouldn't you know, Pirates attacked?

WHM was 45 at the time, so I thought I would stay up on deck and kill a few to get a Sand Charm for another quest. The crossbones were TWTBWW but the Shipwight(sp?) was Easy Prey so I steered clear.

Man it was fun to kill those things, but I almost bit it in the end because I ran out of MP (good thing I had some melon juices). I remember way back when I was a newb, I was sitting in the hold when they came, and Katchup was there as a DRG in AF (I was telling my LS how cool he looked) and he was wiping the deck up and down with them. Back when Penta-Thrust still ruled he was killing right and left.

That was my first impression of the pirates, it was great to hear that music and not immediately go running for the hold.

I had an encounter with monsters on that ship before. I was below deck (i was high 20's at the time) when my PLD friend was up top checking things out when he suddenly tells me

"hey Vim, come check this out. this thing is so cool".
"what is it?"
"a 'sea horror'"
"does it aggro?"
"don't think so"

So being curious I decided to take a look at it. Anyway, I opened the door, and both myself and my friend we're standing in awe in front of this huge monster.Well, let me tell you, it DOES of course aggro. I was dead before i realized this. Anyway, of COURSE i was the only one able to raise on the boat. The funniest thing is when you get thrown off the boat when it lands in Mhaura and there you are lying dead face first on the dock. We had a great laugh. I would love to meet pirates and maybe one day fight mano a mano with this 'sea horror' (Altho I may have to bring in more big guns to kill it).

For everyone who does have the urge to go take a look at it, remember, it DOES aggro to weak WHM's.

On the subject of the Sea Horror, I saw a 74 BST get owned by it. Yeah, 74. Was the funniest thing ever, especially when the Sea Horror used it's 2hr and he was kiting the thing around the captian's cabin. But, as I said, he died. Then the funniest thing (I think) happened. A JP 70 NIN whipped out a Scorpion Harness and casted Utsusemi: Ni and just started wailing on it. She took 2 hits I believe. I don't know why, but I thought that was one of the funniest things I've seen. o.O;;

Oh, another story. Me and one of the guys from my LS were fishing on the boat when pirates attacked. We partied up and started taking them down one by one. Of course, with him being a 54 BLM at the time and me having a sub BLM made a bit of a difference who was able to get in there and deal the most damage. :P

Maybe I'll amass my own group of high level BLMs and we'll try our hand at abolishing piratism (is that even a word?)

Either way it'll make for some really cool screenshots

I was on the boat yesterday and the Sea Horror took out at least 7 people. I was only 18 Blm Taru running around casting Blaze Spikes on myself to level my enhancing magic... Well I was sitting right next to this guy fishing on the stairs.. and the sea horror popped.. no one said anything so I said "Sea Horror aboard." people were like "Hey cool"... not cool... It started coming towards me and this guy so I'm like "I'm out like trout." Got up and starting running towards the captians deck... it hit guy one time and he died... hit someone else one time...dead... so I run around the back of the boat... carefully opening the door to below deck and ran down there asap... I was one of three people who survived the trip... it was intense but fun!

Also my friend Powaslaya was offered 10k to challenge a sea horror... I believe he was level 13 mnk... anyway he said OK... challenged it.. died... got his 10k... at level 13 I thought that was a worthy sacrifice!

I believe the sea horror is level 65-70ish, so ya, any level 75 would have a tough time without Utsusemi or something ^^

This is a good example of all the little things that Square-Enix does to make the game have some more spice.

The first time I was aboard the ship was when I had to make a trip to Windurst to start my cooking career. I believe I was a 24 blm/rdm at the time.

Anyway, I was getting a kick out of just running around on deck when suddenly, the music changes. Interesting, I think... I look over and woah! It's another ship! There are mages on that ship and they're casting... what are they... holy crap! The deck was swamped with undead.

I immediately run up the stairs near the captin's cabin, and check them all. Too hard for me to fight, so being the cowardly blm I am, I duck and run into the cabin. No way was I gonna lose exp on this boat ride.

I watched a few people nonchalantly dispose of the clutter on the deck when a Sea Horror decided to rear its ugly face. Obliterated the entire deck. I've never seen a monster so casually wipe out a mass of people (aside from a Bomb Toss, that is).

So, my friends, ware the Sea Horror, for it will eat you and enjoy its meal.

Yet, one day, I shall stand victorious over its fallen corpse.

Well at 32PLD the one crossbones that I first checked/engaged was DC. The others? I have no clue no time to check anything else just concentrate on the fight.

Yeah, the fact that they invade the ship is great. It is one of the more challenging parts of the game. There really isn't anyplace to go and try and fight them one at a time. It's more of a mass barrage, sorta like Garrisons.

Okey lol nice thread! Anyhoo, I was a 11war/xxxxx NOOB. I was traveling to Windy to do rank 3 and all of the sudden another ship came alongside ours. I was thinking cool more players on another ship! 0_0 That changed when I saw a few skeletons pop and was like cool enchanted bones. Unfortunatly I didn't read the names <Ship Wight>. Text Log went:

Kevinhalacy misses Ship Wight
Ship Wight hits Kevinhalacy for 320 damage
Kevinhalacy is defeated by Ship Wight

So if your below 45 don't even think about being on the same ship lol
