So I'm at level 20 and am starting on Silent Oil.
2 recipes, one is level 24, one is 29.

Slime Oil
Beeswax x 2
Yield: 4

Yield: 2
Which is more recommended? Beeswax is INSANELY expensive (13000 a stack at AH as of this morning) and I hear slime oil is just as bad. However the slightly cheaper recipe has a lower yield and a higher fail rate. Any suggestions? I believe the guide on the trade skill forum says to do the level 24 recipe up to level 24.

Depending on how many broken glass rods are for sale you could conceivably skip silent oils altogether. Repair rods to 25, make rods to 29. If there aren't enough broken ones for sale though, do the first recipe. It's gonna be a loss, but not NEARLY as bad as the second. Haven't looked at slime oil in the last week or so, but it *was* 7k. So ~33k to make 4 stacks. Or 8250/12 (with no failures...HA!). The second recipe would be ~27k for 2 stacks, or 13500/12. *gasp* Do NOT do the second recipe. Desynth goblin/moblin masks for the fibers and make the fishing rods and sell to vendor for ~2k (more at fishing guild, but they only buy so many an hour)
Thank you very much. Glass Fiber rods are a little hard to come by but I get them wherever I can.

Do you know what I can level on for Alchemy at 30?
The guide by Aurikan says potions but I failed a whole stack of them this morning. Is that right?
I usually pay attention to day, direction faced, etc. It wasn't watersday, and it wasn't the weak day, so I dunno what I was doing wrong.
Tried Firesand and that is a nightmare as well >.< I'm gonna have to sell my RSE to push me up high enough to start prism powder :(

At 30, I did artificial lenses and saved them up for prism powders (artificial lense recipe). You need a lot of inventory space for this, however. T_T

I have a mule with about 40 so far >.<
I have a good set up for reliably desynthing masks, so getting carbon fiber is not a problem (I figured out that I'm getting it for about 150-200 apiece ^^) but space is getting limited.
I was planning on doing Viterol at 33 as per the guide, but I'm at 30.8 and failing every synth of potion I try.

Oh Damn, I think I may have just realized what my problem is.
I have 50 Taru Stools in my mog house so I have an overwhelming lightning aura for desynthing.
Potions are with a water crystal, I'll bet the lightning is interfering with the water >.<
I'll try taking them out to see what happens.

You're failing potions because it caps 10 levels above your skill. The lightning energy is making it worse, but even after you fix that you'll still fail a LOT on potions at 30. But they are cheap, so you could stick with it. Or do a couple more levels of artificial lenses just to get you closer. And ditch all those you have saved. You don't need em. Get to ~36 with potions and then go to vitriol. The prism powder stage is one best skipped hehe. (high yield combines = hell on leveling since you have to wait forever for all the stuff to sell) Or hold on to those until much much later in the game when you can get HQs on em, though that'll be a pain on the mule space hehe.
Jexra has a good point about the prism powders. I went through the prism powder stage around 6-8 weeks ago. I still have about a handful of prism powders that haven't sold. :P They just keep coming back to moghouse. :(

So do Viterol from 36 to 43 and then on to Holy Water? Works for me, I'm flat broke after the lens, selling them back would help a ton.
