okay what happened to me tonight was either an encounter with gil farmers, or an extreme case of douchebaggery.
My buddy want's a jujitsu gi but can't afford it, so we go camp for it. We have three people camping the spawn Pld/war Sam/war Thf/war. We pretty much have the pops on lock down. This is where the douchebaggery begins.
Enter - Coless
/anon red mage 50+ no ls set to away status. She can't get a single mob cause we're voking them too fast, so what does she do. She trains a bee through the area. Me and buddies have a laugh as the Samurai pwns it. Then Coless runs around the corner and grabs 2 orcs. She calls for help on them and trains them around our camp. We're kinda annoyed at this, but guess who spawns? Poisonfist Gnadgad, voked by our thf. We start fighting it and Coless comes along with Luckgirl and Weeks to fight her train orcs right on top of us. Pretty damn annoying as I'm being hundred fisted. Sadly we didn't get gi drop. But we did snag a fire belcher pop while Coless stood around examing us after the fight. Whether or not Coless actually is a gil seller, she's still a douchebag. It's so disrespectful to train through an nm camp, and to call for help boggles the mind. If you can't compete for an nm you should give up, simple as that. DEATH TO GIL SELLERS!

I /slap them whenever I see them. X''D I talked to a Zooe once; the famous last words: I China!

Seriously though, why is nothing being done about gil farmers? =_= Maybe we need to all send letters of complaint about them to SE or something. >_>

i had a Zooe invite me and some Japanese dude to a party, tell us to "GO!!", were asking "where?" and then have her tell us "I DON'T KNOW!!" xD!
She said she wanted exp, but i dunno what she was thinking with a party set up like Dark Dark Thief.

You should add Weeks, Luckhero and Kuk to this list. Weeks and Luckhero mine almost constantly in Gusgen mines...with Luckhero being there alomst 24hrs a day. I have spoke to Kuk on several occasions and he admitted to me he is a gil farmer. Kuk says he lives in Zhengzhou, China. He says this is a temporary job for him and they play the character in shifts. Evidently they pay him a small hourly wage to pay. I don't know how much as I didn't ask. Very friendly guy but I do not agree with the job as it is bringing the game down.

When you have gil sellers monopolizing the rare drop market and manipulating the market to thier own ends, something needs to be done about it by S-E.
#35 Sep 29 2004 at 6:44 AM Rating: Decent
I have a question to you.

Why do you hate these Gilfarmers? Do they steal you the spawns?
If you go and hunt there to get a rare item, what happens then? Or are you just annoyed, that they are there and "farming" all the day.
#36 Sep 29 2004 at 7:05 AM Rating: Good
Blinks.

I did not just read what I just did, did I?

Hmmm...what is wrong with a group of people hunting NMs 24/7, 365? Ok GrimleyB, lets say that you needed an Emperor's Hairpin for you job, and you did not have the cash to buy one (more on that in a moment).

Sooo...what do you do?

Well, the other alternative (save a free gift, which we all know ain't gonna happen in this lifetime) is to go kill the NM, The Valkrum Emperor, in the dunes.

But wait, what is that?!

Oh MY GODDESS IT IS THE JERRY CLAN STANDING IN A CIRCLE AT THE SPAWNING POINT.

Ok, cool you say, they can try for the spawn too.

But wait, they are there starting to TRAIN crap onto you to get you to leave. And on top of that, they get the spawn.

And they get the spawn.

And they get the spawn.

And they get the spawn.

And they get the spawn.

At this point, who among us would not be getting pissed, and wondering if they were ever gonna leave dunes the hell alone?

I would.

Let's say you get tired of it, and so you leave for the day.

You wake up bright and early DETERMINED to get the hairpin.

Guess what? The Jerry clan is still at it.

And they get the spawn.

And they get the spawn.

And guess what? THEY GET THE SPAWN.

Lookie here, they are not going to be a decent human being and let another playet (i.e. you) get a shot at what you need.

So eventually, you give up, and check AH prices.

Guess what?

The price for Emperor's Hairpin has jumped up 100,000 gil since you just looked yesterday.

And who has sold the last six of them?

Jerryb.

Now THAT is why gilfarmers are bad...

They don't ever move away from a point, I have seen instances where they train through a camp to remove competition, and god knows they have f***ed with the market before.

*Finished ranting*

Im a newb, so i might not understand all what you have said. So they block the spawn...

How does this TRAIN works?

Anyway...
I know, all of you (or most) are organised in linkshells (aka Guilds). Cant you get then your guild to teach these "Farmers" a lesson? If you are able to getting the most spawns over a period, they might leave annoyed ^.^

No they won't leave you know why because it is their job. They live on this game 24/7 working> they go in shifts and the reason why we hate them is the price of the peacock charm has jumped in 1mil in about a week.

Grimley, it's *literally* their job to sell gil. So they do what has been described in order to make the most money as quickly as possible and by doing so, dominating the market.

The Jerrys are just plain annoying. They're everywhere you want to be, and they are not leaving anytime soon.

Just kinda infuriates me that SE either doesn't realize or doesn't care.

While them camping the spawn 24/7 is disruptive in itself, it is possible to maybe steal a pop from them. However I belive the real detriment they bring to the game is by camping the AH with thier drops and manipulating the market so there is no real viable alternative to getting the rare item you need. You can't buy in a resonable amount of time becasue they have jack the price up out of the roof.

If they train on you...they are violating the ToS. I will not resort to training them back as I will not stoop to thier level of abuse.

Kamenlili is also part of the Halenry/Amaniye/Loveri/Lovelv group that's always camping the Stroper Chymes.

I've seen Highjump with the Jerrys several times.

Also, I agree that the main problem is that they cause the prices to increase. This price increase, in my opinion, probably makes more people decide to buy gil so that they can afford to pay for the very items that the gil farmers are monopolizing.
#42 Sep 30 2004 at 4:48 AM Rating: Decent
Well, I come from a game where the prices degreased with the age of the server. Thats not fine also. If you go on Draggy hunt and you get rares and they arent worth the time to sell them its somehow nasty. So if you own that special arm, you can be sure thats worth its price onlong term base...
Of course if they break game rules, equal if its ToS or just plain ingame rules (of politness) created by players, they should bear consequences. Since I am on very low level and not at the position to do something... but im sure I will do something, if they block a spawn, I want play on.

P.S.: If you have 1 o clock (night) in the U.S. Europeans might sleep, but in China its just a normal Day time! Look for times really no one is awaken. Peking is +7 CET and U.S. (New York) is -6 CET, thats about so you have a time gap of 13 hours. Try to play at these spots arround 10 am to 1 pm U.S. time (new york), maybe they arent there, because its midnight!

Hey guys wat r all u doing????
Camping a Nm for money doesn't mean they r gil selling
I know many people who find camping nm a better way of making money in the game.
Plz dont be stupid and call people who wait or farm for hours "gil sellers" its just not right.
Otherwise how is ne1 going to make money in the game!!
#44 Sep 30 2004 at 12:27 PM Rating: Decent
Man wat is wrong with all of u??
Wat is wrong with Gilfarming??
That's a way of making money, is it not??/
If they farm and sell the gil then they should be stop,
but id they just farm for the money cuz they need that gil, stop posting where they farm. U r hurting their way of making money.
I hope this isnt a stupid post to find out how people r making money in the game, because its really dumb.

Kagashi,
The majority of people listed in this thread are not there to make money for their equipment and enjoyment of the game. They are their to farm gil and sell it online to convert it into real money. There are various threads that discuss how this is fiscally feasible in some countries, and I'll leave it up to you to find the threads. Turning gil into real money is strictly prohibited by the User Agreement, but it is relatively easy to launder the gil so that these players remain clean.

So just to be clear, we are not hurting these people. They are hurting us and you! They in >no way< make a positive contribution to the game. I will point you to my first post in this thread: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=35&mid=1095905666214804231&num=12
It outlines one step that you can take that might, one day, make a difference (though it probably won't /sigh).

*edit*: kan't speel

It is ok to camp an nm but not when you monopolize the nm. The peacock charm was 3mil last month now when i check the AH history it is up to 5mil in Jeuno. See that is our problem with them. They ***** over the economy then they sell gil for real money to make their living. They make their living off of lazy rich people. That is our problem with them

Okay, remember my linkshell? With the Zooes? They invited more people:

Beyond - on main list.
Evele - on main list.
Fihkenyaa - Well, got nothing on this guy, we might have one decent member here, with any luck.
Iville - on main list.
Letant - I've seen him work with Iville in Korroloka Tunnel before, farming spiders and jellies.
Komsoposo - Also no evidence.

They all speak Chinese and claim not to understand english, and use a Zooe as an interpreter. Iville says he doesn't speak English but does, so at least one of them does.

As said before, linkshell name is ClanOverkill, and we're not ALL gil sellers. Please keep that in mind.

EDIT: Added some stuff.

About Coless...

I have been watching her and a small group she was in(can't remember the names of the others) for a long time since she and that other group were invited into a linkshell I was in that has long since broken up. I have been suspicious of them since I saw them doing the chocobo quest with level 10- equipment. I've seen them go all the way to 30 with such pitiful gear, and within a couple months, have well passed me in level despite how much longer I've been playing. There came a point when I have never seen Coless away from Castle Oztroja, and it was then that I regret not letting that group die in Korroloka Tunnel by the jellies long before then. I am fully sure they are gil sellers.
