Hey Ilia, couple of questions...Follow

#1 Oct 13 2007 at 5:03 AM Rating: Good
1. Is there any way we can make it so that if we try to link to a post in the same thread instead of opening a new window/tab, it will just move the existing window down to that post?

2. Is there any way we can enhance the formatting of posts, possibly with the option to change font or background color of the entire post (not just [ bg]). Font is really what I'm after, but being able to change the entire background color would be pretty cool too.

3. Is there a way you could make it so we can embed stuff like Youtube videos? I was thinking it could work the same way as images, you could have a [video=http://www.youtube.com/] that would embed the video into the post.

These things I'm asking for are for journals, but I'm not sure how much work you want to put into it.

I would really like to see Wiki markup start to be allowed in posts. Then we could use img234q12435|thumb|left to generate pic thumbnails, and have the post text wrap around it. That would be freaking awesome in my book.

I asked him a while back if we could have personal wiki's like we do journals and he said something was in the works but didn't give any details. I wouldn't mind wiki style markup for my journal.

I'm pretty sure we can do that.

I'll see what we can do there.

One fundamental of design around these forums is that we never include remote content inline. There are a number of reasons for this: security, content appropriateness (see example of kitty img showing as **** for some, etc. This principle is unlikely to change.

I also have a question for Illia, though I'm not sure if it's one he's ever had before:

Is there a possibility to get the current forum source code for the purpose of having a sandbox to test out things before making suggestions?

Right click and view page source? Or am I thinking of something completely different here.

You're thinking of something completely different.

There's a difference between the forum source (which from the looks of things is mostly in Perl) and the page sources (which are in HTML).

As much as i despise "security by obscurity", can you imagine the field-day spammers would have if there was an XSS or similar found?

I'm not dead set against the idea of making the code public. It's not entirely up to me however, so don't get your hopes up for now.

Yes, it is perl. No, the code won't run in a sandbox. The forums depend on the eqbeastiary for example, and the wow modules, and more.

Anyhow, I think more eyes would make for better opportunities to catch ideas like exploits like that. Although at this time, we believe there are no XSS holes to be found, after having done an API overhaul a lil' while back just to catch them.

I've been wondering when the numbers will be making their triumphant return.

Any chance we can get one of these:

Allakhazam's Forums >>> Cross Site Forums >>> Site and Forum Feedback

to show up at the bottom of the page as well as the top?

Okay, that works for me.

Yeah I kinda figured that. I was thinking it would be neat to be able to do a write-up on a video game, say in the multi game forum, and be able to link to some videos of gameplay or trailers or whatever. I understand where you guys are coming from with that policy though Smiley: smile

Thanks for looking at the other things though Smiley: thumbsup
