When images are reported, we do indeed look at them. If something is obviously going to offend someone it goes bye bye. If it looks fine to us, it's likely fine for everyone so we'll approve it and let it go.

Are they (the pictures, ed.) removed automatically and then reviewed by an admin who either leaves them gone or puts them back up?

Edit: Oh, they are. So that must mean that every image which stays gone was deemed offensive by an admin, correct?

Basically what I was going to say, but I'd like to add that you could just remove the [Report] thing and instead make the images themselves a link to open a PM to an admin. You'd have to report said image that way.

Actually, it would be kinda nice if, when you report and image, you have to give a reason.

For instance, if someone gets ahold of your picture and starts posting it on the forums, you report it and an admin looks at it, says, "This isn't report worthy" and the next thing you know it's back up on the thread. But if you clicked on report and it took you to a form where you had to fill out a reason for reporting, it might make the admin say, "Hmm, I can see why that was reported."

It also might stop people from reporting images at random because it's more work than just clicking the link and giggling like a special ed kid in the McDonald's playground.

But rating posts doesn't make them disappear unless a bunch of people rate it. Then, it only disappears if you keep your filters on.

But, not a horrible idea... now that I think about it.

Even if the comments are anonymous to us, we'd be able to tell if people were doing "ZOMG MORON RATING SPREE GOGOGOGO" to us.

Especially if the Eonsdizzle meme kept showing up there on ratedowns.

The point of the image reporting system is to err on the side of caution for the moment.

When someone uploads an image it starts with a flag of "new". the flags are:

A - Admin loaded, or flagged as default.
G - Admin Approved
N - User uploaded, no admin intervention.
P - User reported, from flag N.
X - Deleted, scheduled for removal.

When someone (A) reports a user's image (B), all images by person B in the N state are flagged as pending review. That means that none of them will show up. the theory was that inappropriate content would be removed near instantly, and admins can undo the spurious reports.

Admins have a little page which shows all the images in interesting states.

This has worked on the test system, but the forums are completely different. There is 100x more of a problem (for admins and users) with anti-social reporting than with anti-social content. so, yes we will be making some changes.

I still want 1 report to drop an image from the default view, but I want the reporter to be accountable for their clicks.

Well, I'm glad you guys are trying to make the site more interesting, and thanks for everything you're doing. I know that when I, personally, make a suggestion, it's usually without any idea of what goes on behind the scenes on this forum and I have no idea if what I suggest could ever actually be implemented.

We don't want to make your jobs harder. Smiley: smile

Perhaps make the reported image just disappear for the reporter? Make it disappear for everyone after 2 or 3? Make a picture "karma" system?

Just throwing suggestions out there.

Images should need X amount of reports before being removed.

People posting clearly inappropriate stuff: banned.

People griefing with false reporting: banned.

I agree with this.

I think images dropping for review on first report is essential, when we all know about shock images that have been posted on various forums over the years. I don't want to wait 5 minutes, or even 5 seconds, for an admin to remove tubgirl should someone post it...
