#1 Jul 31 2007 at 7:21 AM Rating: Excellent
There is already an "Ignore" option for the PM system.

Would you like an "Ignore User" feature on the forums?
Yes, please. :40 (57.1%)
No, thank you. :11 (15.7%)
Honestly, I couldn't care less. :19 (27.1%)
Total:70

Thank you for your time!

I don't think it's going to happen because of this poll, considering the site has been crying out for this feature since the dawn of time. I'd rahter see the development time better spent fixing the things that are STILL wrong right now.

That said, I still voted yes.

If people would let sub-defaulted threads stay sub-default, I wouldn't need this, but people seem to think that rating the OP of stupid threads back up is cool.

True, but at least it'll help give an idea of how many people want it.

Careful. It seems I'm going south of the border in the near future. I may have to detour a little. Smiley: sly

I'd use it but it's not worth slowing things down.

I don't think people would use it nearly as much as they think they would. The default filter is designed so people won't see posts that people have agreed are bad, yet most long-time and premium users change their settings because they want to see all posts.

I think an ignore feature would end up being the same - you'd all use it for a while, then you'd get tired of conversations not making sense and of not being able to rate people you don't like down yourself and you'd turn the feature off again.

I disagree. There are a few posters that I'm quite happy to not see anymore. Rarely do I turn off my filter setting from default so that I can see the recent **** who got rated into oblivion. I'd rather not see certain posters than bother with rating them down all the time.

I see your point. However, for people like that Slipknut guy, it'd be nice to just click "Ignore" on one of his many many new accounts instead of seeing it over and over.

I didn't think of that, Joph. I'll change the poll. Thanks!

Edit: Can't change the poll without messing up the results.

I voted no because I hate the idea of someone being able to ignore me when I'm harassing them. I mean, where is the fun in that?

I wouldn't use the feature, but if it replaced the karma system I'd be all for it

If you like, you can keep doing it and imagine them sticking their fingers in their ears hollering "I CAN'T HEAR YOU".

Since that's about what happens anyway after a couple of posts.

Voted no due largely that anyone who quoted the poster you ignored you'd end up reading anyway. I don't use the filter, I don't see myself using a feature like that at all. I'd rather see the time spent coding on that on making the site more stable, faster, new emotes, and in a few days, my 10k title.

EDIT: Question for those in favor of the "ignore user" feature: Are you such a ****** that you can't just simply skip over someones post? I do it to Singdall all the time.

A poster ignore feature is on the master list of forum requests (which I may post later) but to date it has been deemed infeesable due to the size of the forum, the anticipated number of users who would activate it, and how much processing and load time it would add. Every forum page load would have to check against your list and hide ignored posts. Even on a small forum there would be a substantial CPU cost for the process. Multiply that times all the premium users (since that would almost have to be a premium feature) and things would quickly get boggy.

I just don't see the use of it. Just ignore whatever person you don't like or sub-default it.

"Ford ****"?

Edit for relevance: Can we at least figure out why the heck the forums' pages have been out of sync with the threads for post counts with "Never Filter" up, then (as fixing that would be kind of important should an "ignore user" feature ever get implemented)?

There are some people who's posts I would just rather not show up anymore. Thankfully, most of them have migrated out of the OOT, but more always show up.

That's the problem, though. Some people find it humorus to rate the moron back up over the filter. The "just sub-default it" argument is moot, because what I find unacceptable (therefore worthy of a rate down) may be hilarious to you (therefore, you rate it back up).

Yeah, I'm with Joph. It would be a nice feature, but if it's going to bog the system down, then forget it.

Thanks for the answer, Dana!
