To bring everyone up to speed who didn't know, Microsoft came out with a new operating system recently; Windows Vista.
Considering FFXI was originally released in the US in the PC platform, one would think that Square Enix would be ready for Microsoft's release of Vista. It turns out that Square wasn't...PlayOnline's offical site has a special page concerning Square's effort to bridge FFXI and Vista. IMHO, this page is a load of bull.

The page says that Square Enix is currently running "Performance Validation" with Vista. Now you have to ask yourself, why was Square not ready for Vista? Vista did not "sneak up" on Square because Microsoft has long since unveiled its plans of a new operating system.
One idea I have come up with is that Square wasn't sure if they wanted to go through the trouble of actually coming out with a new version/patch to bridge Vista and FFXI. Now this thought is frightening because it says something about Square's outlook on FFXI's future. However, that is only one possible reason why Square dropped the ball with Vista's release.
Another (and far less foreboding) idea is that Square and Microsoft didn’t communicate properly, and Square was therefore unable to prepare for Vista.
Does anyone else have any possible reasons why Square is so far behind the curve? Or am I just getting overly excited about some technical jargon that really isn't such a big deal, besides the fact that it is temporarily stopping me from playing my precious (little Tolkien reference)?
