It seems to be working for me. A couple of things to keep in mind:

1- You can only search by poster if you also enter something in either subject or content (unless the poster is yourself).
2- Very simple/common words are ignored, like: the, that, a, etc...

If you're still having trouble, link the full url for the results page of your search that isn't working.

h'ok, I'll give you the example I tried to test it.

Based upon using the posters name and a sentence copied from the post and inserted into the content option.

This is the actual post:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=55;mid=117078897277622587;num=5;page=1

This is the result URL:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/fsearch.html?subject=&content=I+will+only+reply+to+this+part%3A+&poster=Blackjades&date1_m=1&date1_d=1&date1_y=1999&date2_m=1&date2_d=1&date2_y=2008&cats=forum10&dosearch=1&base=forum10

A second test:

Actual post:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=55;mid=1170708394155169154;num=15;page=1

Result URL:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/fsearch.html?subject=&content=aww+just+when+I+got+used+to+my+name+being+yellow&poster=Uouhuo&date1_m=1&date1_d=1&date1_y=1999&date2_m=1&date2_d=1&date2_y=2008&cats=forum10&dosearch=1&base=forum10

Also tried the above using single words from the posts (not then there at etc) and also tried long and short sentences.

Second test.

Tried using posters name and subject of the post. Again No matches.

Do your search again and use the Posters name, then in the Subject line just put a few spaces in there.

I had the same problem you are having and by putting 2 spaces or so in the Subject line, the Search function worked fine.

Try this out and let us know.

EDIT----- Well that is what USED to work. Now I get nothing also.

No offence... but surely having to put in spaces (which doesn't work btw) STILL means it's broken...

Edit - - removed rant which should be directed at the coders not the poor mods.

In both cases, your search is limited to 'FFXI General' but the post is on 'FFXI Server Forums >>> Seraph', so there is no way it could possibly work.

The other problem is that searches that contain overly common words, even if they're in phrases, wont work. Searching for "aww just" will work, but extending it to "aww just when" fails, due to "when" being rejected. This isn't really ideal, but I'm not sure if/when it can be improved.

I give up. You win. Congratulations. It was my own fault for paying out money for something as stupid as being able to use advanced searches when other sites do it for free. I won't even bother to mention that even with the correct forum slected all all forums selected it still doesn't work... incase it wasn't obvious i'd duplicated the error to show and had simply done it wrong THAT time.

No, you win! I've yet to find even one that works right but as I said. You win! Hope you guys actually get paid for doing this.

Yes, this is why I pointed out the second problem, with having common words inside phrases. There's actually also a 3rd problem - the post you were aiming for with your first example was edited, and no part of the phrase you were looking for remains. On the second one, if you just search for yellow, it does get the desired result.

Let me explain: the forum search was designed for finding posts based on keywords, not phrases. There can be downsides to this, but at the present time the only option is to use single keywords.

I'm sorry you're not happy with the way it works, but all I can do right now is offer you a work-around.

Works just fine for me.

Another one.

Instead of having a hissy fit and saying the search function is broken, maybe you should learn how to use it first.

edit: spelling.
