first i ask that some admins go over the ffxi server forums locking alot of the flamewar garbage and even going as far as banning some of the more obnoxious users, ragnarok personally is getting really bad.
another question, more of a personal idea, is a simple script someone could whip up. basically go through all forums every few weeks and lock or delete all threads older than X days, to prevent necroposting.

With respect, we'd have riots if we did that. I caught so much crap just for defending the lock of three threads in a 5 day period.
Please PM me or Kaolian whenever a particular thread gets bad. We cannot police all the boards so we depend on people like you to point us to where things are geting out of hand. Be sure to include links!

The boards are self-cleaning - just leave the default filter on, and 90% of the worthless material is gone before you ever have a chance to see it.
