I went through OhMikegod's FAQ sticky on the Main WOW Forum, however, I have a question about Karma ratios.

Does Karma stack as a 1:1 ratio?

See if this explains a little better. A post is made, and the poster is rated with an Excellent rate. In the User Account area, the poster has now gone from 3.00 to 3.01. Now in later threads, the same poster makes a posts, and gets rated an excellent again. The rating now holds at 3.40. Does the poster need to make multiple posts with excellent rating for it to budge upto 3.41 or is that ratio still 1:1

just curious,

Thanks for any responses.

EDIT: I post this here as more Admin's would look at it, and I'm pretty sure that this would be considered Troll Flame anywhere else.

I can't say that I'm 100% sure at where you're going, but I'll give you what I know...

Individual posts and your overall karma score are completely different. So, you can have an overall karma of Excellent but still have multiple posts that are decent, or vice versa. Your overall karma score is an average of all of your RATINGS, not post scores.

Each time you make a new post, two (2) ratings of your current karma score is added to the averages list. So, for instance, you have a rating of 3.0 with 20 (or 40 ratings) posts:

Your score is 3.0.

40 3.0s
divided by 40 = 3.0

Now, someone rates you with an excellent (5.0).

40 3.0s
1 5.0
divided by 41 = 3.048

You post another post at your new score and you have

40 3.0s
1 5.0s
2 3.01s
divided by 43 = 3.05

Because the poster has a low post count the rating had a significant effect on the overall karma. If that poster had several thousand posts though, that one rating probably wouldn't have budged their karma at all.

Not sure if that answers your questions at all, but it does seem to be one of the more common mysteries of karma scores.

EDIT: cleared up the math a little.

Bah, just realized I still screwed up the math a little, but if it makes sense, mission complete! Smiley: grin
