Rape Reference in a person's sigFollow

#1 Dec 03 2006 at 6:43 PM Rating: Default
I noticed it in this post. I don't know if that's necessarily kosher as far as forum policy, so I didn't want to pm him (not sure it was my place). However, it caught my eye and bothered me so I figured I would bring it up here.

Thanks for your time.

The karma system is working as intended. If it bothers you rate him down until he removes it.

The "Sapped girls can't say no" part?

C'mon now. Want to remove the joke about how "Rogues do it from behind", "Hunters do it with their pets" and "Go die in a moonfire" too? Smiley: frown

Uhm, forgive me if I am mistaken, but wasn't the karma system designed to filter out trash posts and not to be used as a sort of "I hate you, drop below the filter already!" punishment?

How is he supposed to know why he's being karma camped?

Edit: The game is called World of Warcraft. It's an entire game dedicated to killing people and you want him to remove his comment about how sapped girls can't say no? Smiley: dubious

Do you realize he's quoting someone, not saying it himself? I see no reason to sanction camping someone over quoting someone..

Apearently anytime anyone said it was to reduce admin workload and make teh forums self moderating they were wrong and its actually for voting on what opinions we liked and didn't like, and more often who we like and don't like..Cuz you know, us rating the crap out of opinions and camping people over quotes in their sig reduces admin workload way more than self policing to remove spam etc(which still winds up reported in the feedback section before its gone, go figure) would. I'm saying some people really need it spelled out for them when and why they should hit that button. Especially FFXI'ers..

OP: have you thought that maybe it would be perfectly ok to ask politely for him to remove the quote, as long as you don't have a fit if he says no?

@ Kao: please tell me thats was a more a "why are they bothering me with this?" kind of reply..

I dont think there is anything in the forum policy about rape... But I have yet to read those.

Think that's a pretty disgraceful thing to have in a sig regardless. That should fall under a TOS agreement in which you agree to have tact when posting and not offending others. I for one, would like to see this guy forced to change it.

What part of it is disgraceful?

Let me burst the bubble:

The ability 'Sap', from World of Warcraft, disorients your target for x amount of time. Disorient effects break if or when the target is harmed. Thus a Sapped girl would indeed not be able to say no, but the assailant would not be able to harm her either.

Now, the "rape" part of that quote is the fact that the girl is forced into doing something against her will. We're assuming sexual intercourse seeing as the original joke, of which this is a modified version, is about just that. However, the joke might also imply that a Sapped girl would not be able to command you to do something against your will either. Ever heard the expression 'wife aggro'? Where the female significant other goes aggressive because you've been spending too much time at the computer?

A Sapped girl can't say no and tell you to shut off your computer.

See it?

At worst, the signature is "kind of" naughty.

But if you can't take a weak reference like that, being a joke and all, you probably shouldn't be here in the first place. Sorry, I had to say that.

I thought the sig is both witty and cute. I'm much more inclined to rate him up for that than do the opposite. If anything rate down the OP for being a weenie and hope he develops a thicker skin and sense of humor.

I am a prude and wasn't offended. I wouldn't worry about the quote in the sig. Most of us change our sig quotes more often than we change our underwear. Unless you go commando. Then I need a different analogy.

Stop trying to change stuff that doesn't concern you - leave people the hell alone. Is that so hard?

Someone brought this thread to my attention, and since its about me I feel that I should comment. This person asked the origin of my quote and my reply was:

"lol omg haha. Anyway... EvilShenanigans, another poster on the forums had it in his signature (without quotes, I assume he came up with it) and I saw it, laughed my *** off, and decided to steal it from him. Not being one to take undue credit, I included the fact that he wrote the quote, not I. Honestly if people can't see that for what it is (a joke) then they need to grow up. I do not condone rape, I want to see rapists burn in hell, but I also am mature enough to enjoy a good laugh. I'm sorry that they are so childish that they make a big deal out of nothing. Look at it, laugh, move on."
