How the moderators could be more active. (was forum=21)Follow

Mazra wanted to get the admins more involved.

Here is one way to do it.

From time to time people get banned, but even if people acted just as stupid or rude as the banned poster. Nothing happens to them.

Here is what they should do.

If someone starts a heated debate where people are beeing equally angry throwing out deathwishes and other things. The admins should punish all those that participated with nasty remarks. With a ratedown. For minor incidents just a small ratedown. And for major incidents maybe go from Guru to Sage or Sage to scholar. Not by much but this would mean that they would have to take it easy afterwards to get back to where they were.

Im sure they dont have time to do that.
Even if they did, the Karma system works itself out.

Once you hit scholar status you can rate people. I can click rate up or rate down on people that say something stupid if i feel the need.

Thus the point, the system works itself out.
#3REDACTED, Posted: Nov 08 2006 at 2:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have seen posters ending up beeing banned. While others in the threads that replied with various ways of dying got away. My point is if things get so heated that the admins are called upon. Everyone that adds nothing but BS to a thread should get a ratedown from the admins.

One problem with your thread.

The admins are NOT moderators.

The readers can just as easily pass out the rate downs. Admins are not needed for that.

edit: Ok, two problems.

And they should do it more often.

Admins can pin as many ratings to an account as they wish. So they can take someone with 10k posts (aka unmovable karma) and take them from 4.0+ to Sub D if they wish. These cases are rare (as it should be since this forum is self-moderated) and it is often times easier to just ban people outright. The system does (normally) work itself out. Bad posters find that while they can post not everyone sees it (depending on your filter settings) so they get passed by a good deal of times. You don't like seeing the idiot posts, set your filters higher, and behold how they go by the wayside.

Keep in mind, the MODERATORS of these forums are VERY active. Every Scholor, Sage, and Guru is (in essence) a mod of this forum. The site admins are exactly that, admins of the SITE not the forums. Maybe in the future Alla will get some people specifically to mod the forums, but it isn't likely.

i think kao is the closest thing we have to a mod, though they all take certain mod action, but only stuff that cant be handled with karma

Check out Usagichan to see what can happen. He was at about 9k posts and had Sage status. Then he spammed the Asylum with Nerf the Asylum threads. So they temporarily muted him, knocked off about 5k posts and put him under 3.00 rating.

Here's the problem with your logic. You have 23 posts, we have no way of knowing if you've been banned and are back trying to attack Allakhazam for banning you in the first place or a sock trying to achieve an agenda. That is what the karma system is in place for. If an ISP is blocked a banned member can use various methods of infiltration, posting from the library, work, new ISP, Cell Phone... Karma is nothing more than a method of keeping each member account on an even keel. Keep in mind the internet has been around since the 1830's when it was called the Telegraph, as it has evolved people go from one forum to another as their interests change and morph so there are old scores and new ones being settled both with Karma and by Admin.

Every morning I wake and forgive my Trespassers past indiscretions. I also grind my axe and take on a new day hopefully clinging to my moral code. Some people believe that this is still 1995 and cling to the belief that IGE is doing business as usual in 2006 and that is where the heated discussions come from. They will read an ancient tomb found in a blog, hold it as the Lore of the internet, and become disciples for a cause. Not realizing Allakhazam now owns equipment from O-Gaming because IGE was ganked by nerds.

Analogy, May Company became Dillard’s became Macys in my home town. I can either walk around naked or trust that buying Dockers from Macys will keep me warm. I will not buy gold on line, as I know that would get me ganked by forum and is against my moral code. As IGE doesn't employ me to haul their gold and blizzard has me moving their games I'm going to kiss the butt of them that feed me. As Game Stop, Best Buy, Wal-Mart and K-Mart are my customers and I'm theirs I'm anti illegal server. I did the strip mall walk last week for NWN 2 and Wal-Mart won, I did hit the local Best Buy and Game Stop first, and must say the pretty blond was much better looking than the Nerd next to her. Nerdettes for the win though I'm sure her Nerd Father would kick my rump if I acted upon my desires.

See for all we know your a minion of IGE trying to use this server to Gank nerds. As a free member you have the luxury of anonymity and that's great but don't expect the community to elevate this thread and your voting ability as it says nothing. It is a nice piece hoping to get elevated on the reputation of Mazra or another community you belong to. If the Karma system were truly, broken Mazra wouldn't be as Karma camped as he is but Mazra has a way of punishing himself. He should change his handle to Martyr with his Don Quixote ideas of taking down the system that so offends him.
#10REDACTED, Posted: Nov 09 2006 at 9:53 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The thing is there is an elitist group on these forums. Just take a look around the other boards. And the thing is. If someone posts that Wow is so much better then ffxi and starts a real flame fest. He might get punished for it. But I believe that those that adds fuel to that fire should also get a punishment. At least in the case where the admins step in. Why you ask. Well there is a saying that says dont feed the trolls.

I feel I should be given unconditional admin powers within the forums.

Those who agree with and support me shall be spared when this comes to pass.

There are always strings. Strings and adjustment. In taking up the mantle, your sense of that which you would protect is forever altered and you grow slowly distant from the poster you once were. Power does have a price.

Though it would slow your posting down and let me catch up. hmmm...

Don't mind me, I'm rambling.

I'm thinking that having Ohioans around would also keep you thinking about the big picture and responsibilities. John Glenn didn't forget who placed him where he is and how it was accomplished. With out Ohio this world would come to a complete halt both in research and development.

Edit, thanks for the use of the Chopper. Damn I like Canadian orange and white birds.
