There's more pretty obvious ones on the main FFXI forum, anyway, back to my real job.

Blowfin is right, though. Even the admins admit that they're not moderators. It's a user-moderated forum.

I asked them to moderate the WoW forum and they told me it wasn't their job. So in some way, blowfin is right when he says "real moderators would". They're not real moderators here, they're moderators who don't moderate.. or something like that.

Meh, I'm confused too. One day they're not moderators and the next they get upset for not being called real moderators. And then you tell them to moderate and they tell you that it's not their job. So you tell them they're not moderators and they get upset because you said they weren't real moderators and round we go.

Excuse me! I'll have whatever Mazra is drinking, pretty please^^

The admins can't win here. We ***** when they step in and then we ***** when they don't. If, for the most part, I didn't like the way things were run here, then I wouldn't hang out here (alla as a whole). I have no real complaints and don't feel they should have to baby-sit every post on the boards. If they were supposed to heavily moderate, then they would almost need people who only modded, especially for the boards with heavier traffic.

Awww, don't bag me out baby.

You missed the point, besides seeing if Kao has any other buttons than the "lock thread which challenges my authority" this was actually an example of what a waste of time the FFXI main forum has become. Even more so than when I started posting here a couple of years back. We have two people who should be (are they?) capable of actually taking action and cleaning up that board in the form of Pikko and Exodus, yet nothing seems to ever happen. All I'm suggesting is that a _slight_ bit of policing would do wonders for that board as what happens at the moment is a big orgy of ratings fests which circumvent the whole idea of the ratings system.

Look at the decent posts from a couple of years back that are sticked in the job forums and then look at the crap that we get now. The difference in the quality of the content is stark and should worry the admins here a lot more than it does.

Hell, this site might even hold a more constant userbase if it was tidied up a bit. You have to wonder how many people take a look at some of the forums here and just turn around and walk straight off in the other direction.

Kao's reaction in the other thread was over the top and unnecessary by the way.

No, pressing the other buttons I have access to would have been unnecessary and over the top. keep it up and you'll get to see that first hand.

Meh, I think I'm mostly done making my point. Maybe I should have said "In my opinion Kao was harsh and over the top.". Then we wouldn't have needed any more posturing on your behalf. On what grounds would you be banning me out of interest? Is inadvertently upsetting a "moderator" really a bannable offense? 'Cause that's what's happened, you blew your top over something minor (probably a matter of interpretation), and now I'm being threatened with being banned.

You can understand that I do get slightly ****** when you tell me to go @#%^ myself after I've attempted to explain something to someone in the manner which I see it? I didn't mean any offense in those remarks, and hey, sorry if I've touched a nerve. Get over it, grow a spine, whatever. I didn't mean to upset you.

TBH it's none of my business If you guys are happy to have forums full of serial time wasters circle jerking each other. I'm just telling you that in my opinion it makes for a crappy information site when you have people acting like crack whores over their ratings and posting total BS and not being kicked into line.

At the very least I believe Pikko and Exodus should have some more control over the FFXI mainboard and actually moderate it to a certain degree. The ratings system might keep people coming back like the afore mentioned junkies, but god damn is it ugly to watch. Having said that you guys probably only care about your userbase, so do whatever, it's just a suggestion.

Edit: anyway I've noticed a whole lot of stuff that's been moved around, nice one =).

DOOD! The "DOwn with Kao he's a tyrant admin" position is currently filled.. however we have plenty of positions for "whiny Moogle f'cker" that need filling.

so the main forum of FFXI goes off topic... /wrists
If the admins policed the board the way you wanted them to, a large lot of FFXIers would be banned... between the karma camping, socks, spamming and necroposting you shouldnt tossing stones.

Kao isnt threatening to ban you but I can say first hand that if you wanna see what happens when he applies hundreds of awful ratings, feel free to continue to **** him off.

Pikko and Exodus are here to update the forum information databases. I should think most people would rather know about MOBS and items then FFXI e-peen contests.

I would just like to say here that I believe the Alla forums do what a forum should: it brings people with a common interest together to discuss that interest.

I don't come to the forums looking for how to play the game--not first and foremost, anyway. I come to congregate with those who share my interests.

Blowfin had his say over a post of mine, which despite what it became after 20-something pages, was initially a FFXI-centric post. And if Blowfin wants to call it a "rate up party," or whatever... okay. Maybe I'm too liberal with my rateups. But if that's true, it's only a reaction to the inordinate amount of RATE DOWNS that I see for whitenames posting totally innocuous comments or daring to express an opinion.

When I attained scholar status, I decided that it would take A LOT for me to rate people down. And I never rate-down anyone who is sub-scholar unless that person is an obvious troll. And when I say "troll," I mean a person who has no interest whatsoever in FFXI, or hates people who play FFXI for one reason or another, and is coming to the forums with the sole purpose of being disruptive.

Unlike Blowfin, I don't come to the forums just to digest information. And, unlike Blowfin, I choose to try to contribute in some manner. I don't exactly see Blowfin burning up the boards with his compelling threads. Hell, I don't even think I've ever seen him POST.

Anyway, don't want to cause trouble. Just wanted Blowfin to know that I know he's an idiot.

Just to put things in perspective, I live in Hawaii and I don't get a chance to check the boards until around 9 AM Hawaii time, which is currently 3 PM Eastern. It's a little hard for me to catch stuff like this when it happens when I'm sleeping. Once I get to work I try my best to check the main board every hour or so. I can't do any more than that.

Pikko, seriously, you guys do fine. Yes its supposed to be a board about FFXI related topics, but its a forum about a game. We like to be able to go off on a tangent once in awhile, because its FUN. We are finding people we have common interests with, during these derailments and it will only make for a stronger feeling of community.

You want to see over-modding? Check this board out, where the general age is 13 to 18. They have ridiculous stickies that cover every topic of the game. I don't know why they bother letting anyone start new topics, since most are locked shortly after they are started. Mostly by the self proclaimed "World's Coolest Grandma." Nothing makes the kids feel better than being treated like an idiot. They expect you to read through 70 pages of sticky to find an answer about a bug. On my way out the door there, I posted asking them to be kinder to the kids and stop making them feel like they were in lockdown. Looks like it hasn't changed ;;

Um... nope. Don't generally need tech support. At work, I AM tech support.

Whazzurpoint?

EDIT: Okay, went and parsed a few of Blowfin's posts in the Tech Support forum and learned a few things.

1) Blowfin is FAR dumber than I imagined.

2) He's also an ***.

3) He seems to think that he's the only person who knows what is proper to post and what isn't. And yet, he never does anything but make snarky remarks to OTHER PEOPLE'S posts.

BLOWFIN SAYS: GENERATE CONTENT?! WHO ME?! Not my job, buddy.

4) He doesn't know tech from the hole in his butt. But he wants to. And he wants everyone to think that he does. Which is probably why he's so snarky.

Anyway, I disliked him before. Now he has my pity.

I mean, really--the man put the word "Blow" in his OWN SCREEN NAME. That just screams, "Please, Daddy, I'm bad! Why can't I ever get a good spankin'?!"

I just pray that his pocket protector can withstand the strain as his heart struggles to beat within that severely couch potatoed body.

Yes. I went too far. I apologize. Shutting up.

You said you'd never seen him post. I've been helping out where I can in the tech support forum for more than a year and he's been very helpful there. That's my point.

As far as flaming in the feedback forum goes, it's frowned upon so I'll leave my reply at that. Too bad you couldn't do the same.

Blowfin here basically defines himself as a troll. This person deserves respect? Why is he here if it's a "cesspit?" Because he's a troll.

He's attacked the forums, the admins, me, people who have entertained me on these boards, and my thread. So if I'm doing something that's frowned upon in this forum, then I apologize for following Blowfin's example.

It was a fun thread BW. Pop on into my journal to pay your respects, as we are holding a wake for it. The thread is propped up in the corner, wearing sunglasses and a party hat. A beer tucked under its arm and ciggy in its mouth. Almost as lively as it was in life!

I'll be over after I'm done making Blowfin my *****.

AND WITH THAT I SWEAR I'M DONE!

Swear.

All done.

No more.

Please don't be hatin'. I'm normally a very "don't wanna make trouble" kinda guy.

Its ok BW. "Wooooooooo Saaaaaaaaah!" Now you say it... There ya go. You must learn to take pity on those who are so small minded that they are unable to find joy in lifes simple pleasures, like a 20 page thread derail. You may derail my journal to your heart's content.

You know what makes these people even more upset? Still being able to find joy in the very simple things. I think we have proven our ability to do that and can therefore take the high road!

Besides, they lock threads here if they even start to smolder a little like they may turn into flames. And that is when we lose. "You can't play cards in Hell! The cards will burn up!" AMIRITE?
