[WoW] Drop Table % CalculationFollow

#1 Oct 23 2006 at 5:19 AM Rating: Decent
I was wondering if there was any plan to update the percent drop calculation for drop tables. Right now, the % drop is just a straight forward calculation of x times dropped over y items dropped.

This doesn't take into account quest items. Some quests guarantee that 100% of the time a mob will drop the quest item if the player has the quest. Other quests do not guarantee the drop. Plus special times of the year (Halloween, Christmas, etc.) will give x% chance for a festive item to drop while outside the special time there will be a 0% chance for the festive item to drop.

I'm not claiming to have any answers, but the current system is lacking certain key elements.

I just wanted to bring this issue to the attention of the devs.

Thanks.

We've been aware of most of these flaws since the system was originally created, but theres really no perfect solution due to the limitations on data collection.

For the most part, it's best to just think of drop percentages as estimates, however the large sample sizes in most cases will cover up the problems fairly well.
