please please please add a "report this post" button.

Would make it alot easier to report the gold sellers/hijackers than having to come to this forum make ap ost copy & paste, etc.

This would also help you cut down on excessive reporting by flagging a post as reported and not sending further notices.

I understand there will be some false positives and people just being douche bags. Applying similar functionality to the rating system where you can "no rate" someone you could "no report" people who abuse.

Alot of forums have this feature and I think it would help us get rid of the nasties that much quicker.

I give this idea a Smiley: thumbsup

It would take a bit of testing to get it working right tho... would the post get flagged in the thread? or would the "report this post" button create a thread in the feedback forum?

Though this sounds like a good idea on the surface, but with a feature like that I can see many people getting butthurt by a thread and just reporting it so they feel better.

In it's simplicity it could do this, ideally though it would be more like an admin only page that contained a list of reported threads and who/when they were reported.

But previously I wrote:

I'd say make it something only Scholar or better could use, like the rate button.

There'd have to be quite strict controls on that, as it could get out of control really fast. Think how much people complain in here about posts they don't like, and multiply it by the amount easier it'll be to just push a button to complain.

Yeah, thinking it over, the lazyness factor does keep a good deal of the spam down.

i'm not so sure it's a good idea to have said button, but a suggestion in case you're considering it: make it to where a certain amount of "reports" on the same post moves it to a queue for admins to look at. so let's say a post is reported by ten different users. it is then put into the queue and any reports over ten is counted, but doesn't create new reports.

i would also keep track of who's reporting it, to be sure it's not getting over used be a few bad seeds. making it a scholar or higher only option is a good idea too. maybe even have it accessible to users to see if a post has already been reported (but obviously hide who has reported it).

but, i think this would make an admin's job quite a bit more involved and to make general poster's lives just a tad easier.

That's what the rate button is. when enough people all agree a post sucks, it disappears from the collective view. (Except for those who choose to ignore the collective wisdom and turn their filters off).

I suppose we could change "awful" to "Report this post".

I vote to keep it "Awful". To change it to say "Report this post" when it isn't going to report anything to anyone is disingenuous.

Sometimes though, in the case of keyloggers or whatever links that may be harmful, rating to sub-default may not be fast enough to stop people from seeing it.
