Wow, 11 pages so far. I think what it boils down to is this (and if you reading Alla's comments carefully, you'll see it also):

1. In the past Alla stated that this site would never be connected with IGE, RMT's etc. etc.
- Well, we all know that is false now. As it stands, Allakhazam is now connected to IGE. Not only connected to them, but owned by them (or their parent company).
- Now, if the above is true, how long until they lie to us again?
- There is no grey area here. You either stand WITH Allakhazam and IGE. (gold-sellers and RMT's) Or you don't. It's that simple, no if's-ands-or butts about it.

2. They also state that ALL information regarding users on this site will remain private.
- What happens when profits fall? It was posted that Alla will have control UNLESS the site isn't showing a profits.
- After being lied to about agrument #1, it's kinda hard to believe that if profits drop, IGE (or the parent company) won't use this info. Remember, IGE doesn't care about rules.

So, if your gonna stay with Allakhazam, realize that you are supporting IGE in one way or another. Now, I've seen some crazy posts from boths sides. Numbers being pulled out of asses, etc. But you have to ask yourself, "Is this the website I want? Even if it's being funded by RMT's?"
My answer to this is no. My morals won't let me support this. You may have a different answer, thats fine. But me personally, I'd rather find a site thats loyal to the fans of the game, and not the bottem line. A site that Allakhazam once was.

LOUD NOISES!! I'm outty.

I ask you please, if you can't get out of it. If it is really a done deal? PLEASE just Take the money and go? Its going to be tough watching you broken down by one demand after another from the "Soul Sucking Suits of Greed".
He probably can't go.

A standard practice of a bussiness with a negative image is to purchase a new face with a positive image, and of course ensure that that new face is contractually obliged to remain the new face for a good time to come.

If they just bought allakhazam.com, and let Allakhazam go, they would lose their new face with a positive image. It would just be another strip-mined aquisition by a bussiness with a negative image, which wouldn't help their image at all.

In order to attempt to improve their image, they need Allakhazam on hand, and have most likely contracted his services for a matter of two or more years to come. In which case Allakhazam would lose everything if he walked away at this point. (He'd have to pay it all back in fines, and still lose the site to boot.)

On another note: Allakhazam, you say you were losing users to Thotbot.. so what? Wasn't this just a hobby for you?

If you lose users you use less bandwidth, and you get less profit, but as long as you're still in the green, and not bleeding money, it shouldn't matter for a hobby, because you reduce costs as you lose users. Unless of course you've obligated yourself by putting those new servers you got a little while back on credit?

Everyone here, head my warning, this is where most small bussiness fail. Every bussiness goes through ups and downs, and for the most part less bussiness means less costs, so while profits may be down, it's still profit. However, what too many people do wrong today is obligate themselves by buying things they can't actually afford, which forces them to depend on "expected" earnings, and any loss of "expected" earnings puts them in the red, because they still have to pay the credit card bill.

My money says allakhazam.coms new servers, minus a few users, has put allakhazam.com, if not in the red, too close to red for comfort. Of course that idea doesn't bode well for the idea that Allakhazam retains control as long as he maintains profit. If he's already facing red, there isn't much hope of him maintaining control.

Now he's just a pretty face on an ugly empire, but I can't blame him for saving his pockets. Contrary to how most people are seeing this as Allakhazam lining his pockets, there is a very good possibility that this move is saving him from filing for bankruptcy in a year or two.

I don't like this change, but if I had the choice between heading into bankruptcy or selling out to the evil empire, little moral apprehensions could not hold me back from saving myself from living in squalor. Maybe some major moral apprehensions could hold me back, but come on.. RMT is stupid (well, buying virtual money is stupid; charging for it is perpetuating stupidity, but not really such a dumb idea from a bussiness perspective), not evil. (They pay a decent wage, for China, to their workers, in China.. I don't agree with outsourcing to third world countrys myself, but it's not the worst thing in the world.) They're nowhere near as bad as the diamond trade as someone else mentioned.

As much as I am offended by CGFs when playing MMORPGs, as a gamer, I wouldn't turn them down either, if doing so would mean losing my ***. After all, if I can't afford to play games any more, why should I care if they're overrun by CGFs. I wouldn't pretend I wasn't being selfish though. I have a great capacity for being a selfish ***, but I've never been dishonest about it. I would just say "Sorry guys, gotta save my own *** here, hope I haven't ****** you all over too much" and be proud of my honesty, if nothing else, while heaped in shame. Adding dishonesty to an already huge pile of shame just makes a bigger pile of shame, and I like to keep my piles of shame as managable as possible.

All that said, the only thing good about this site is the community. If the community is leaving, I'm going with them, because without them this place is just a hollow shell with terribly inaccurate information databases.

The Powers That Be can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this stopped being a "hobby" a couple years ago and became "How I feed my family and keep the mortgage paid".

Figured I'd make my first and probably last post to the forums in years.

First off I've used Allakhazam since my EQ days and donated often to help do my little bit. I've been a premium member off and on. I have relied heavily on the WoW info on the site.
My company's website had an entire page dedicated to Allakhazam and wow-reader touting them as best things for MMORPG players.

When thottbot was bought out by IGE I stopped using them.
IGE practices in violations of games TOS. They are (have been) linked to convicted pedophiles and rapists. They are linked to spreading Malware, Spyware and Virus through sites they have owned.
Their in game practices have effected players of many games even now they are sending spam through wow's mail system.
Saying that the game companies don't have a problem with this practice would make the 1000's of accounts banned already by Blizard for buying and selling in game goods in the real world awefully strange.

Believing that Allakhazam will remain untouched is foolish, but it is possible. Look at IGE history to see how foolish. All silly analogies aside Alla and company made a choice, it was thiers to make, and they did. What shocks me is that Alla has always stated his opionons very vocally about RMT, and to do this wow. As for the posts he has made to the forums, well they all sound very much like corporate spin.

I will be removing my info from the site, no longer using wow-reader, getting rid of my firefox search plugins for Allakhazam, and my company has already pulled any links from thier pages.

Be it IGE, RPG Holdings or some as yet unnamed company, they are all a part of this blight on MMORPG's and I wont support anyone who is in bed with them.
Allakhazam, thanks for the help over the years I couldn't have done it without you. I hope you are able to get past this and make this place everything YOU want it to be, sorry I wont be along for the ride...

One step closer to making gil/plat-selling a legitimate and accepted practice in the MMO industry. As IGE purchases enough fan sites, not everyone is going to leave them, people will hang around. KillingIfrit continues on even with IGE banner ads, Alla simply has become another KillingIfrit, Congrats on the change.

Having personal experience operating at C-level of holding companies, I've watched many buyouts, many with the promise that everything will be fine, many promises that the new subsidiary will get to run it's own ship. Then comes the point when us corporate whores make "suggestions" on how to change their structure and operations. Usually the suggestions either end with getting what we want or finding a new president for a subsidiary(gone through 3 presidents in the last 5 years for one particular group).

Within a year, the parent company of Alla will request certain changes. If Alla management cannot follow through with said changes, new administrators will be brought in that can follow through. It's all a matter of time before IGE influences and desensitizes enough players to make them the accepted source for income within MMO games. Doing so will shorten the duration people spend in those games, and thus shortening how long people maintain subscriptions to said game until it finally hits the bottom line of game producers making MMOs.

The race is on, who will win? Will IGE become THE way to play MMO's, Alla has already through their hat into the ring supporting them? Or will the game industry be fast enough to setup methods to counter currency trading?

It's all so sad really. Guess Alla won't be listed as a premium community site by S-E anymore.

Wonder when the "parent company" will step in and say you can't remove post about sells or be vocal about how you dislike something we own. I will miss this site glad when my preim. ran out I didn't renew now.

..interesting..

I was just looking at my user posts, and after seeing one in the negative, I pulled up page 4 of this thread...

The entirety of page 4 has been admin nuked. It's gone. Filter settings set to never filter, and all 50 posts were filtered. o.O

Edit: page 4 returns <dramatic music>!

Well, at least for now Warcry hasn't sold out... So I suggest everyone start using Warcry for anything you need. They are a bit smaller then allakhazam, but at least they don't accept (directly or indirectly, it's all the same) money obtained by exploiting asian workers and making MMO gameplay harder on legit players.

http://wow.warcry.com/

"Just thought I'd let you know. Unlike some other fansites out there, we don't take money from the people who make your game harder to play. We're pretty proud of that, and just thought we'd share.

Thanks." ~Orson of Warcry

You could learn something from these guys Allakhazam...

You would rather people base their judgement on an article full of holes and factual misrepresentations? When we finally know the details of the deal, then we can make a judgement.

They already stated that they were bought by the company that owns IGE. I belive that RPG Holdings, LLC would be that company

As of 11pm last night, these questions weren't asked. I dont have time to read the whole thread now at work, so I will just ask them.

  • Will any of the sites outside of the Zam.com network have access to the WoWreader data and any other data collected about ingame material on this site?

  • Is there an explicit timeline for the alleged improvements?

  • Two parter:
a)Is there a stated threshold for profit loss before the parent company steps in and retools the site, or are they able to simply step in when they percieve the losses to warrent it?
b)If there is a specific threshold, how many permium member (no exact number needed) would need to cancel before the parent company takes over?

  • Another two parter
a)Will there be links from sites owned by the parent company that are outside of the Zam.com network placed inside the Zam.com network?
b)Will links form sites inside the Zam.com network be placed on sites owned by the parent company outside of the Zam.com network?

  • Did you approach the parent company about the deal, or did they approach you?

  • How "in demand" is information about:
    a)Allakhazam.com
    b)IGE
    c)thotbott
    d)ogaming.com
    e)the parent company at E3?

Unless RPG Holdings, LLC, was recently purchased, and the same company that purchased them aquired Allakhazam. This had been repeated time and again by myself and others. I have to believe that Allakhazam and his lawyers would have looked into the business history of the company seeking to buy them. If they truly felt they were going to become just another branch of IGE, I do not think they would have agreed to this merger.

Riddle me this ZAM Man! I have questions to add to your Q&A ^^

You have told us what will happen with premium members. That they will get all sorts of new goodies.

Q: What will happen to the large majority of your populace who use free accounts? Will they soon have to pay to have access to the information they used to get for free? Even if you do plan to currently keep it this way, will they always have the same access they had before?

I would just assume you are going to put a lot of time and money in to all these new features you will be adding, and linking up with the other IG... I mean RPG Holdings owned sites. So I am just thinking to stay somewhat profitable, that having a majority of the people getting info for free would no longer be an option.

wrestle with a pig and you both get dirty, only the pig likes it, right?

man, i really liked allakhazam. it suited my every need and the community was great. maybe it still will be. I really don't like the very existance of gilsellers in ff, and i'll be damned if I contribute even indirectly to the profit of gilselling/goldselling etc...

really sad to hear this. like finding out your friend who you had been playing w/ for months/years has been buying gil or is selling their account. really feel betrayed. business is business though right? well from now on you won't get my business.

Thanks for any who helped me or contributed to alla in the past. you helped create a great resource for information or just compassion. too bad that community is gone. atleast the name is changing. there's a big difference between allakhazam and zam. zam bows to ige.

    {take care} {see you again!}

I don't like Marlboros, but I still buy oreos. I would never buy a Ford, but would definitely buy a Jaguar. Not big on Taco Bell, but like KFC. Many products you use are owned by people who own other products you may not like. It's the way of the world. As long as the companies are run separately, most people are fine with that.

Lame reply. It's not really tinkering with people's ethics or moral beliefs when they buy Oreos but dislike smoking. Smoking is completely legal. Yes, I realize online currency trade isn't exactly 'illegal', but it really seriously infringes on the rights of the people who make the games, and it really upsets people.

Liking Taco Bell but hating KFC is not even remotely in the same kin as liking Allakhazam, but hating IGE. IGE works in a gray area, and does stuff many people dislike or flat-out hate.

Either way Alla, you don't need people's money anymore from Premium accounts.

Way to sell out guys. I'm sure you'll be happy though at night, after all, you're getting more money now or something, so who cares what the people who helped get you there think, right? Who cares what all those Premium guys think, I mean, it's not like they contributed or helped or paid money out of their pockets just to watch you guys sell out like a bunch of asses.

    Oh wait...

Where do you come up with any of that?

Here, I'll make it simpler. Official press releases do not and are not intended to provide you with information needed for making an informed judgement. Duh.

They are spin written by marketing and public relations professionals for the purpose of influencing people and selling them on the point of view of the company that paid for the press release to be written. All you can say for a press release is that whatever "hard" info may be in it has passed corporate legal.

I didn't refer anyone to any "article full of holes." In fact there are reputable sources for business reporting, and there are also sources of information that companies must by law make publicly accessible. It shouldn't be long until smart people begin linking to them here.

The main problem I see is Alla has gone into this with stars in his eyes, expecting to retain all control.

IGN and it's "parent" will have entered into this with a plan already in place to take control. Unless of course this parent company is revealed to be an established company with a good track record. I do not have much hope of that though.

Autorenewel cancelled on my account for now.

Good to hear, Alla. First you ***** us over with your crappy premium service, now yo usell out to plat farmers. But I guess you'll compensate for the loss of those that still shelled out their money to you in the hopes that you wouldn't sell out, and replace us with all the 1337-00b3r-d00dz0rz you'll get from the jackasses from the other two sites, won't you?

Personally, I'm in the right mind to ask for a fill reimbursement of 3 years of fees I shelled out to you, because I think the line about my *** without lube comes to mind.

    Thanks again, O Mighty Sellout.

PS: Please take a business course and learn to phrase answers like the one about ownership issues in such a way we can't call "BS!" in an instant. That and maybe learn what ethics and accountability are, you failed on both accounts.

If all the people using this site in the future are IGE clients too busy to farm up their own gil/gold, who is going to take the time to post the information that people come here to read? It seems to me the gil buyers are certainly too busy to post updated strats. And how much help are the gil buyers going to be to each other in the forums?

The players that respect FFXI or other MMO enough to play without cheating are going to head out to a site that is owned and managed by like minded people who also love the games. And they're going to take their knowledge with them (and maybe even edit/remove the guides they created here before they go).

Rather than re-energise the site as Alla says he wants, this move will hasten its decline by alienating the contributors who've made it great. Who wants to help the IGE family succeed?
