I expect that within a few days, almost the entire community of all of Alla's games will know about this.

I would immagine it will be a lot more then that... I wouldn't be surprised if this showed up on G4 (which isn't the best of stations any more but lots of people still watch it) here soon. Not too mention at E3 (which is literally JUST around the corner) the news will be made official.

Besides the mass media, I wouldn't be surprised if this news falls into the hands of various "small time" gaming news source/webcomic sites like ctrl alt del, vgcats, 8bit, ect.... I know several authors of those play MMOs on and off and I KNOW that Tim of CAD is VERY against RMT stuff and many of his comics have appeared here before, so some people have probably already emailed him this.

All in all, this is going to be a pretty big thing in the end... and, like you said...

And I don't think the general concensus of "SELLOUT" will change.

though some wont know how anti RMT alla always is/has been, they will realize that alla/zam is now owned by the same people who own ige (if in fact ige did sell for some reason, like maybe that business was going downhil lately so the owner sold before he/it went belly-up) which ruins MMOs.

And what good is improving your site if its empty lol. you guys really screwed yourselfs over. Your veiws on how the ends justify the means really saddens me.

Problem is, they'll be running a dead site. Anyone have a better forum site?

Edit: Oh, Alla you should change your title from "Defender of Justice".

one thing that will be happening Playonline.com will be removing Alla from there links to comunity sites now that its in with illegal gaming activities. if they dont that would be funny them sending players to a site that is owned by IGE. I think i ought to write a email to SE but they must already know what is going on

Think the general concensus is to end premium, contribute nothing and use content for free.

So they will still get 6 million hits a day but no revenue or player provided content.

Wow, suddenly a few people start whining and poof. Someone thinks the site is dead. Could happen...
I think he should change it to, Defender of RMT.
Or something.

Right now I'm hoping that Alla might log in tomorrow and see all the new responses... And decide it might be better to back out (if that's possible).

I think it would be really amazing, and show how much the community input really means to this site if we were in fact all listened to, and Alla had a change of heart over it. I think that if Alla did this it would be wonderful publicity, and would be a sort of hero to the entire online gaming community.
But maybe that's just how I would view it.

Heck, even I'd get Premium to show my appreciation were that to happen, and I bet most everyone who has stopped their renewals would re-select "Yes." ... But it's unlikely to happen, I guess. :(

I don't like Marlboros, but I still buy oreos. I would never buy a Ford, but would definitely buy a Jaguar. Not big on Taco Bell, but like KFC. Many products you use are owned by people who own other products you may not like. It's the way of the world. As long as the companies are run separately, most people are fine with that. If your oreo cookie wrapper had a marlboro ad on it, maybe that would be a problem. It is important to keep in mind that we are a completely separate company within a large holding company that just happens to own other companies as well.

I realize some people are not going to be happy with this, but the fact is that we are now able to do things we just were never able to do before. This gives us the financial backing and stability to really do a great deal for everyone. Before the financial backing for the site was just me. Now it is a well financed corporation. I want our network to always be the first to have new game information. I want to be the destination of choice for anything having to do with any game we cover. There have been many cool things we have discussed doing over the years that we have just not had the ability to do without stretching ourselves too thin. Now we can do all that and more. I have loads of exciting new plans for making your experience even better than before. By adding these new sites to our network, we are gaining resources and flexibility that we have never had before.

We are purchasing eight new servers to run the site. Expect the speed issues to go away. We are also working on a way for people to personalize their view of the site and add blogging and other individual features. Our programmers will be able to put significantly more time into the site too, so there can be more searches and more features for every game. The benefits of this far outweigh the negatives. Step one: Rationalization
Step two: By rationalizing, insult the intelligence of everyone who got you where you are.

If you need money, just say so. Don't pretend that you don't have to agree with the people who sign your paychecks. You do if you have a soul. Just remember what mama told you.

How much the community input means?

So suddenly whining actually has value?

interestingly enough, that is pretty true actually. SE actually has listened to the cominuty (which a large amount is/was alla) for some of the major game changes and things have been put in. Of course, sometimes those changes aren't that good >_> but hey its the thought that counts lol.

Allakhazam is a site based and built around its community. For good or for bad. When the Patriarch of the site defies his most closely held values and sells out to a parent company that is nothing but a front of IGE then the community revolts.

Some of that revolt includes incessant whining.

Considering that he's come into a large amount of money in oder to buy those new servers he's so proud of, its a safe wager the deals done.

I wonder if Alla likes being in IGE's pocket. He pulled a Cheney! I hope he doesn't shoot me in the face.

Not that it matters. But back when I became a premium member it was because certain 'search' features were only available to premium members. I paid for the service for quite some time even though I didn't use it a ton.

Thottbot did change your little world, as you mentioned, free searches in almost every conceivable way.

So yes, great you now have the 2 largest mmorpg assets under one roof, you can now charge for advanced searches on thottbot and not worry about someone making it cheaper.

Well two things have changed since these scenarios:
1. I supported because I believed you were a startup, enjoying what you did. Now you are a business. A business of charging for 'user submissions'. Good luck with that model. There is only a finite amount you can charge users for when someone else can develop a clone of your site with freely available data.

2. Gold farming rubs me the wrong way. You ARE affiliated with them now. I used to think sony was the only chumps for doing their little eq2 test to charge for items on their auction site, and that you took the high ground. Well money talks.

I'm not saying I wont use your sites, nor at some point pay for them. I'm just saying you played the capitolist game well. You got the backing of a whole generation of mmorpg players.

And now... you can't simply add "<insert mmorpg here>" and expect people to submit. Because you will be judged by the value you give to the submitter and how you treat your users. And as separate as you'd like to make yourself from gold farming, something generally viewed as a short cut to games meant to last years. You are a gold farming company now.

You aren't the craigs list of mmoorpg grass roots effort rewarded with success. You are someone who joined what most people (not all) dispise about this genra. Penny pinchers anonymous.

Ok, so if he backed out of the deal and still wanted to move ahead with all the new content and additions, how many people do you think would go and buy premium to help out?

HAHAHA!

maybe a hand full at most, everyone else would go back to complaining about whatever the hell in wherever forum they came from. Its true were now under the umbrella of "evil" and everyone is freaking out but how else do you expect to improve the site?

Unless someone rallies everyone together and starts a "save Alla from IGE" telethon or bake sale or buy premium then it isn't going to happen. If I have learned anything about this place in the years I have been lurking its people are all talk and no action.

assuming the deal isn’t finalized and he could get out of it, but is very unlikely

I don't really want to get into a debate on the merits of gilbuying or gilselling. But I felt it might be necessary to remind some people of where it looks like online gaming is going. If you had asked someone 20 years ago that there would be imaginary worlds where real currency exchanged with fake currency, they would've replied that it was science fiction. It's not and the interdependent globalizing trend is still in full swing. I don't know what the details are going to be, but it's very hard for online gaming companies to isolate themselves from the global economy, much like it's very difficult for countries to isolate themselves.

With that in mind, I loved the independence of this site but I also didn't like that IGE owned sites like somepage were more efficient with data and the like. There are also alot of improvements that could really be useful to gamers as a result of this merger. As long as Alla keeps the independent art film feel to the operation, then I'll gladly visit. The best measure I can think of for when it's time for me to stop visiting this site is when the Asylum is locked up.

I'll be keeping an eye out, but I don't want to jump to conclusions just yet. (I'd have to pull out the mat and I'm just too lazy)
