It's 5:50am and it's been light out for like an hour already. Recommend me some foods that I should aim to find for lunch. Also feel free to ask questions, but I'll probably take a bit to answer.

I just had breakfast with my host family actually, but lunch for the next month is left up to me and my friends after class.

Where are you? Are you restricted in your food purchases to local vendors or do you have a "supermarket" available?

EDIT: For clarity

That's what I said, but in a less blunt manner. Smiley: disappointed

僕は青梅市東京に住んでいる。

Which part of Japan are you staying in? If you're in Tokyo we should get lunch sometime wherever it is you live.

Food recommended to eat:
Okonomiyaki お好み焼き
Monjayaki もんじゃ焼き
Katsu don カツ丼
Ten don 天丼

lots of stuff from a bakery

Best bet for lunch is from the options in the university cafeteria. Today I had a soba set and it was yummy. There's a supermarket and multiple conbini's near me though so I can bring some bentos with me if I want.

Also people, google translate isn't the best when it comes to grammar lol. I recommend not translating entire sentences. :3

本当です。沼津に住んでいる。 毎平日、三島に行きます。 Me and some friends are probably going to head into Tokyo this Saturday, specifically for Akihabara lol. That day will probably be hectic though. We'll probably head in a second time if possible though, could possibly meet up then. I'll take the food recommendations to heart, probably try some don tomorrow.

So we had Okonomiyaki for dinner today lol. I ate a lot more than I planned to. All these food items are so rare in the states, I see myself getting stuffed each day simply because I'm eating something I never had before.

I was pretty jelly of my friend when he went last year, probably one of the many reasons I'm here now lol. Going to buy so much stuff I'll probably have to mail some of it back home or else pay fines for going over the luggage weight limits for the flight back home.

I should probably try to find a maid cafe to eat lunch in when we're in Akihabara too. :3

NY definitely has a lot of the soup/noodle based fudz, I've had actual decent ramen before in the city. But it just can't be compared to paying only 5 dollars for a meal that completely fills me up and tastes amazing despite being from a school cafeteria.

It's only been 2 days, but I'm starting to think I might actually want to look into the JET program. Teaching English, or rather being a teachers assistant, in Japan would totally be the proper way to use my computer engineering degree. Right?

Glad to hear you had Okonomiyaki. It's one of my favorites. Especially when it's an all you can eat for 90 minutes place.
Shabu shabu is pretty awesome also.

Ah you'll be coming a good distance from there to Akihabara. I hope you get a seat on the train XD

http://www.jorudan.co.jp/english/ is the site you might want to use for figuring out train routes. google maps is good as well.

I've been to Akihabara, plenty of times. You'll definitely want to visit Yodabashi camera. That is a must do.

Yellow Submarine is pretty cool too if you're into table top and TCG stuff. You can find some german board games and other stuff as well.

Outside the station of Akihabara should be a map of the area. There are free maps so you can see what things are around. (plenty of maid cafes, but they're not really worth the cost)

If you can find a second hand store you'll find lots of cool things that you want to buy. These places has lots of the last years and years before merchandise at a discount.

Otafuku in East Village is pretty good for okonomiyaki and takoyaki, and it's on the cheap side.
