Ask an Admin Day 2012 thread of doom!Follow

It's time once more for the Ask an Admin thread. Now with more bad puns!

1. Any question is fair game, but we get veto rights. It can be related to the site, personal questions within reason, requests for recipies, affordable toe fungus insurance quotes at reasonable rates, etc. Bonus rate ups for particularily good questions.

If we can't answer, we'll try to at least give you a reason for the veto. You can direct your question at any or all of the admins, and any of the admins are welcome and encouraged to answer throughout the thread

2. If you ask about your karma score, it's 2.00, and then we make it 2.00...

3. Asking about Admin notes is lame, and will probably result in us making up even more lame things to put in them.

4. If its a question that involves another user (for example, "did poster sam do X to poster george") we need permission from both involved users before we can answer, unless its something public knowledge.

We'll leave this open for the weekend and into next week.

So, with all that, field your questions of doom! Free Smiley: cookie with every 10th question.

*cookie not available where prohibited by law, or already been eaten. user must apply cookie tag to their own post. Never invert cookie in a space-time vortex while balancing a yak on a tea kettle and singing the national anthem of Ghana in iambic pentamiter. Cookie warranty void on theoretical postulation of cookie.

1. Is there already a pre-set title for me for when I hit 10k posts?

2. If as many admins could answer as possible: Would you rather fight a horse sized duck, or 100 duck sized horses? Why?

3. Is there any one poster who rates me down on a regular basis? No names necessary, don't care to know who, just curious.

4. Is crazylegs in The Asylum a sock? If so whose? Is it Varus or not?

5. I missed it, what exactly got varus banned the last time? Also, on a related note, can you stop just arbitrarily nuking posts/threads and just lock the threads instead if it's a large thread with actual discussion happening? or at least make it possible for us to view our posts from nuked threads via the "Your Posts" page? It's kind of annoying. Kind of really annoying.

6. Why did you guys have to go and make a 5th star? The hell? Dammit, there IS NO 5th star!

I dunno, we've never had anyone get anywhere near that close. Maybe an extra rate button? "I dunno what it does, but I just rated you Orange Sideways arrow!"

Kavekk wrote:

4.84. and that trick only works once. Also yours will be 2.00 in a minute.

Nothing as far as I know. She's still here, just doesn't post as much for various reasons, mainly time, and other things she can go into greater detail about if she chooses.

Monsieur Driftwood wrote:

No, but we'll think of something... suitable.
Monsieur Driftwood wrote:

A horse sized duck. Cartoons have taught me that most cartoon ducks are easy to defeat when armed with a suitable giant gray rabbit. Fighting 100 duck sized horses would result in lots of really tiny piles of horse crap. Plus, ducks are delicious, horses, less so unless you are Japanese.

Not enough for me to do anything about really. And there is a certain amount of irony to the situation that I can't really go into.

Monsieur Driftwood wrote:
4. Is crazylegs in The Asylum a sock? If so whose? Is it Varus or not?

Not so far as I have been able to link far enough to do anything about.

Using certain phrases he was expressly forbidden from using again. for the 5th time, after I told him to stop it. And it depends on the thread or whether a ban is involved. Sometimes certain threads get nuked at the request of those who post them. Viewing nuked posts has been looked at as an option, though the vast majority of a non banned user nuked posts are going to be multiposts in history.

That one is actually an asterix.

Fair enough, and somehow, I think I understand.

As an addendum to my previous questions: Have any of the well-known banned posters(re: Katie, others from a while back in the Asylum) come back with a different name and are hiding it from all of us? Or have come back and been banned before they can post anything?

1. Have you, like, ever see your DingartTM? On that note, how did you ever manage to play EQ without a serious case of the heebie-jeebies? There's spiders in virtually every zone (up to TSS anyway).

2. I recall back in '07 or '08 plugging in random img=xxxxxxx and ran across some...disturbing furry gifs. Was that ********************** or someone else?

3. If, theoretically, a person wanted to gift other users with a tangible item is there any way to send an item to an Admin and have it sent along thus keeping addresses sekrit?

4. If a person wanted to gift premium to a(n) other user(s) how would one go about that?

5. GBATE??Smiley: motz

Seriously, if I don't hit 10K or get titled before I can't see it anymore I will hire a man with a very particular set of skills; skills he has acquired over a very long career. Skills that make him a nightmare for admins who won't take pity on a long-suffering whiner *******.. If I get my title early, that'll be the end of it. He will not look for you, he will not pursue you. But if you don't, he will look for you, he will find you, and he will have a box in his hand. Don't ask what's in it, although I can totally assure you it won't be a swarm of spiders. Probably.

Occasionally we let people back if they behave. Some have lasted, some have been banned again, others have posted a few things and then been banned before many people saw them, and some annoyed us enough they go on the premtive predictive ban suggestor and we nuke them before they can post.

How come I can't have a 10k title?

Or how about this...

If I were to get a 10k title what would it be?

Or maybe if I phrased the question this way...

What does it feel like to have a custom title all your own that no one else has?

Last one....

It helps that the laptop I had back in college had a really bad 3D accelerator and most of the time I couldn't really see the spiders. That and dead spiders don't scare me so making them dead was addictive. I couldn't leave the game until they were all dead. everywhere. I nearly crapped myself the first time I saw the terrorantula though. And yes, I have seen the dingart, I've even commented on it before. the hat is a bit off, my current EQ2 hat looks more like an inverted stir fry wok.

Depends on how disturbing, and maybe? there was only the one pile of really really bad ones, but there are occasional others

Friar Bijou wrote:

Eh, maybe. it would depend on how many items we were talking. Many of us admins prefer to keep our mailing addresses secret too in case of ticking deliveries from certain godraidens. but maybe. PM me.

Friar Bijou wrote:

https://secure.zam.com/paypaloption.html is an option, otherwise talk to Darqflame and she may be able to accomodate that

Why would I want to Go Ban All Threads Everywhere? that seems counterproductive.

It depends on the tree species, average density of the groundhog, firmness of the ground, slope present, sea level and air density, season and time of day. If we assume a very small piece of balsa lumber, tossed from a standing start on a flat slope at sea level on a surface with no give, and assume that the lumber stops for distance purposes on impact with the ground in standard earth gravity, probably between 0.14 and 1.1 meters. Maybe longer if it was a freakishly largre groundhog. The shadow seeing variable would of course have a dramatic effect on the range to target.

I'm sensing a pattern here. Wait for it.... Wait for it... Hmm, nope, I'm not getting what you are going for there. (Just kidding, we miss people occasionally. I'll think of something, probably related to what the "E" stands for. I'm thinking "egyptologist, or "eggplant". Maybe something classic car. Do you like Edsil's?)
