66 years old and he died due to heart failure, apparently.

For those who don't know, Davy Jones was the lead singer in the band The Monkees - the world's first "modern boyband" in the sense that the band was created by the record company.

If you're still lost then perhaps you know this song by them:

The Monkees was first a Saturday morning kids comedy show. I think this was responsible for their initial musical fame.

Davy was the fav of the girls. In fact, there was a Brady Bunch episode that was all about Marcia's crush on Davy Jones.

Personally I liked Peter Tork. He was much funnier.

I used to listen to Monkees records when I was a kid. I'll never admit that again.

I had wondered how a live concert of theirs would go. AFAIK they didn't play their own instruments, did they?

RIP at any rate.

Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork are both top notch musicians. The Monkees even released an album of originals that hit #1, but was obliterated the very next week by some obscure album called Sgt. Pepper's lonely hearts club band.

Actually, obliterated isn't the right term. According to wiki it stayed at number 2 for 11 weeks, just behind the Beatle's opus. Not too shabby.

That sucks, he was supposed to have a solo performance at Universal's Mardi Gras too. :(

He's been haunting me. Lola, L. O. L. A . Lola, has been on repeat play in my brain for two weeks. Luckily I know all the words to the song, so I'm not being driven crazy by just the chorus playing over and over and over.
