During a gun control argument, the scenario came up with going to clubs with metal detectors/searches. So the posed question is, do you feel safer or less safe going to a club that checks for weapons?

What I believe is that people feel safer with whatever they are used to.

I would prefer to go to a club which wouldn't play the kind of music that the kind of scum bag who carries a weapon around with him would go to. I prefer to know if my friends and I end up involved in a fight the only thing I have to worry about is perhaps the bottle in the other guy's hand.

Personally I don't think alcohol and firearms make a very good mix, regardless of the situation.

I'd prefer living in a country where people don't own weapons normally.

When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.

This is exactly my point. I'm not naive in not believing that certain environments are more prone to violence, but alcohol and people will almost always be more likely to escalate any situation.

These beliefs that someone wouldn't ever carry a gun into club x is just denial.

Read above. What exactly type of music is that? I can't think of any music played at any typical adult club that wouldn't ever attract a person carrying a weapon. Besides, a glass bottle? I haven't done any research, but I saw the damage done on Myth Busters and I wouldn't want to be ever have to be concerned of getting hit with a glass bottle.

This also. The U.S. is too far in "gun rights" to ever get to this.

I bought a special rifle for when my daughter starts dating.

Depending on the availability of the guns, that would be a much better scenario than what it is today. I don't think anyone is after the belief that no guns will ever be in the hands of the wrong, just greatly reduce the possibility of them obtaining one.

I'm somewhat pro-gun, but I don't ever carry one on my person. That being said, I'd feel safer in a bar or club that actively prohibited weapons. Iamadam said it right, booze and guns aren't a good combo.

I love guns, but I hate clubs*, these two things go wonderfully together.

Historically, this scenario requires a shotgun.

Just sayin'.

I don't go clubbing, but I would think I'd feel safer in a club that actively checks for weapons.

Well, that's not entirely true. If a club were checking for weapons and I were to go to said club, it would make me actively think about someone bringing a weapon into said club, which would probably make me feel less safe. I wouldn't think about it at all if I went somewhere and they didn't check for weapons, because it's not something I dwell on.

But I realize that's not truly the answer to the question you were looking for, so I would say that given the choice between a club that checks for weapons versus the club that does not, I'd probably prefer the former.

Then again, I'm in a state that now allows guns in bars. I assume that would include clubs, and so... Well, let's just say I'm glad I don't go out to bars (or clubs) very often.

I don't know, I've never seen someone toting a gun while listening to Electro, or Indie, hell even some of the rock gigs I've been to had surprisingly little violence(aise from the circle pit, but that's not the kind of violence we're talking about). I've been in my share of dive bars and shit hole clubs, but on this side of the pond we tend to search everyone before going in. Mostly for bags of drugs though, because we love our party drugs.

A glass bottle is a lot easier to deal with than a gun, or knife.

Better range and accuracy with the rifle. Smiley: grin

Buckshot to the engine compartment; less liability that way.

I don't think the average person carries a gun in a club. The question is, have you ever seen any aggression in those clubs? If so, what insurance do you have that escalation wouldn't end up with gun fire? I was say on average that it wouldn't, but it's only naive to think it can't happen.

People aren't bound by clubs or music. That's akin to blaming Columbine on Manson.
