I believe, this question could have used a "dating/in a relationship" option.

Dating/in a relationship is a stage of interpersonal relations that's so fluid and unstable a majority of the time that one person could be dating one day they take the test and then it's not accurate the next day.

It would be a silly option to put on the question, frankly.

Same could be said for single, married, separated, common law and divorced. The rest of the test wouldn't change only that one question. And even then the results wouldn't be skewed as the questions are asked at that moment not answered and revisited later. A "single" or "married" answer doesn't change the results of the test if you get married or divorced the very next day.

No it couldn't. Marital status is no where near as fluid as "relationship" status. Both socially and practically. Even if you want to go on about quickie marriages/divorces or something, they're not statistically significant against the nature of dating.

I live with my bf and have for three years, so I picked married/common law. I know technically 3 years isn't enough to be considered common law, but we're practically married in everything but name.

Really? I think it's only 6 months here. I know we claimed on taxes as common law after only 6 months.

I think it varies from state to state, but in most cases you have to live together for 5 years before you're considered common law. I'm not 100% sure on that though.

We still have sex, just not as often as we used to. Part of the issue is we're just not sexually compatible, but we have everything else in our relationship going great. One of the perks of being poly is that we don't have to let the lack of sex ruin our relationship. Smiley: grin

Common-law marriage doesn't exist in the UK. Or, that is to say, it is not recognised as being a thing, legally speaking.

With De Facto marriage in Australia (living with someone of the opposite sex for more than 2 years) you get most of the legal rights and responsibilities of an official marriage.

Many people think that, after living with their partner for a few years, they become 'common law husband and wife' with the same rights as married couples. This is not the case. In fact, couples who live together have hardly any of the same rights as married couples or civil partners.

There is no such thing as ‘common law marriage’.

If you are living together as a couple, there are steps you can take to protect yourself and your partner. There are also ways to minimise the legal and financial problems which may arise if you decide to separate, or if one of you dies.

That's from the government website. Common law marriage was a thing in the UK until the 1700s, iirc.
