You've heard too much Pop when...Follow

So, I work in Retail (ugh..) and the only radio station the boss lets us play, is Q92.9.

They play 99% Pop and "soft rock" type stuff.

So I'm constantly bombarded with all of the latest pop songs, plus a few 80s, 90s, and '00s, mostly pop and softer rock.

Well, you know you've heard too much of that stuff when you just start singing lyrics to said songs randomly, like this morning with me.

I've been getting my daily dose of nostalgia by playing old console J-RPGs, right now, I'm working on Final Fantasy X. For those of you who don't know anything about that game, it is a Final Fantasy game, and like... 75% of the way through the game, you run across this NPC at a monster arena, who sells you weapons that "capture" monsters when you kill them with that weapon. The goal is to capture as many unique types of monsters as you can, so that you can fight them in the arena, and train yourself, and he also gives rewards, and lets you fight special (stronger!) monsters that you can't find anywhere else in the world.

So anyways, I go to a mountain directly after that NPC and on this mountain, I ran into a group of monsters: 2 plant-like creatures and 1 bomb.

So I'm fighting them and I kill the bomb (it is actually called "Grenade" in the game) and it says, exactly this on the screen:

"Captured Grenade!"

And suddenly, next thing I know I'm singing "I'd catch a grenaaaade for you!" and then I stop myself and I'm like "OMG... I didn't just say that, did I...? Ugh... I've heard that song way too many times now..."

Ever found yourself doing something similar? lol.

Now I KNOW I've been hearing too much pop music....

Makes me feel old someone would consider Final Fantasy X as an old console game.

My brain constantly plays me a background track of perfectly reproduced shuffled music. However I sing so badly, I never sing along. When I do enough Mindfulness or meditation practice, the background music goes away, so I know my mind is more stressy when the music comes back.

At home Arcade Games are cheaper, but far less social, yes. Sorry, Sogoro. *hug*

I used to walk up hill in 3 feet of snow to go home and play Final Fantasy. We couldn't even afford fancy roman numerals after the title.

I didn't want to dwell on the trip to school. There were no black mages in school, and since I lived in suburban Maine, there weren't even a few black kids.

I won't let this whippersnapper make me feel old by stating FFX is an old console game.

For the reference, I actually have played Combat for the Atari 2600.

In fact, I still have a working 2600 console, but it isn't hooked up or anything. That's what emulators are for if I ever wanted to use that.

But yes, in the world of technology, 9 years is old. When you boot the game up, it says "Final Fantasy X project 1999-2002".

It is 2011.

Five Final Fantasy games have come out since then, so yeah, FFX is getting kinda old. That doesn't mean it isn't fun, though. IMO, it has one of the best battle systems, and sometimes it is refreshing to NOT have an ATB system in a Square RPG. Gives you time to think if you need to, allows battles to be more strategic instead of frantically thinking while mashing buttons or opening menus to think (but if you open a menu, you can't see your characters' stats in a lot of them).

More than 5 FF titles have come out since then if you include DoC, Crisis Core, before crisis, tactics advanced, TA2, the whole crystal chronicles series, some of the chocobo games...
