In my other thread, Lubriderm (and agreed by Bijou) asked me to teach you guys French words, but without the translation. So I'll try my best to teach you the best words I know, alone, their part of sentence and using them in a sentence, without writing any translation whatsoever.

So for my first lesson:

Fromage
Male noun
Comme Dexter l'a dit si souvent, mais sans le dire correctement, on dit "omelette au fromage".

Here, you have it. If anyone wants to somwhow record themselves reading this via video, a sound file or even Skyping me, I will rate them up.

À la prochaine!

My new housemates for this year are French. Well, 3/4 of them are. I may try and pick up a smattering. Although, having holidayed in France, I've noticed that much like many white trash English speakers, French speakers can been highly critical of others trying to speak their language. Especially if you're not very good.

Maybe it's just bad experience on my part. Or maybe it's a Parisian thing and they're all ******** Who knows?

I'm hoping my new housemates aren't Parisian.

Although, I do have a friend who is from near Toulouse, he seems pretty full of himself. Might be his age, though.

I found Paris to be very pleasant, myself. You know, apart from the simmering racial tension waiting to blow the place apart.

I never went to France, so I am a bit jealous.

This thread makes me realize.. it was probably cartoons like Dexter and Freakazoid that made my subconsciously choose learning french in high school instead of spanish.

Wish we had more language options.

Or you simply have bad friends.

Quebec works the opposite way (Quebec City in particular). If you speak English, they turn their nose up at you. Butcher their language and they'll do anything for you.

The Spanish are like that. So are the Germans, actually.

Fromage is too easy.

And making a sound file, or even specifically getting on skype to read something for a measly rate up, is just silly.

Je me suis casse les cils.
Es que je peux aller au toilet.

Two phrases I will never forget how to say. Even if I can't really spell them perfectly correct.

"froide", pretty close.

"cassé" and "est-ce" and "aux toilettes".

Seriously, you broke your eyelashes? Weirdest sentence ever.

When I was in Paris, everyone was thrilled when I would speak French to them. I even got free stuff from time to time because of it.

My French, while a bit rusty is pretty good though, and my accent is apparently also good, so maybe that contributed to the positive response.

Interesting Paris is the only metropolitan place I ever went where they made fun of us for trying to speak the native language. It sticks with me because they would switch to English to insult us and then forget any English they knew.

Aomori was probably the place most likely to have some one come up to you and try out their English.

Oh well I posted here just because I like cheese.

Well, today's word:

Flirter
Verb
En France, on flirte, au Québec, on crouse.
#25 Aug 20 2011 at 5:56 AM Rating: Good
Well give us a hint. What does crouse mean? Give us some anchor to try and puzzle it out without just looking it up.

Well, "crouse" might not be a real word, but we use it all the time in Quebec. It's an equivalent to "flirte".
