Oh, and poi. Someone is bound to try to get you to taste it.

Don't.

God, you're going to the land of Spam. I'm jealous (until I get home and open my pantry that's stocked with it). And now I'm craving Loco Moco.

Well, my mother officially hates my husband and is not too pleased with me. I called her yesterday morning to tell her that my husband accepted the job, and she started crying so hard she couldn't talk to me. She just called me to tell me that this happened too fast (no ****) and that we hadn't thought it through. That I'm just doing what he wants to do and it doesn't matter as much to him because he's not as close to his family.

Then she said she'll never see me again, which I told her that I would be home for visits. She said that was too expensive, and that I wouldn't be there for Thanksgivings and Christmases. I told her I'd be there for some, but maybe not all. She said, "Well, that's all I wanted to tell you," and she told me good-bye.

Ugh.

It's about a thousand dollars for a plane ticket from TN to HI. She probably won't be able to afford it. I've told her we'd buy a ticket for her, but she's convinced we'll be completely poor and won't be able to afford to travel home, let alone fly her out. I'm not sure if she'd let me pay for it to begin with, honestly.

It just sucks. I feel like I have little to no support from my friends and family. A co-worker told me, "Look at it this way. They all love you so much the don't want you to leave!!"

Still stucks. Smiley: frown

That sucks.

I think all mothers are like that, though. Well, most of them. I mean, my mother cried her eyes out when I went off to University, and that was only an hour or so's drive away.

When Ray and I got married, my family was less than approving and it wasn't until Charmaine was born that my family totally accepted him (our DNA was officially mixed). His orders took us out of San Diego for 10 years, only 300 miles away but it might as well be 30,000 with the way my family reacted. My dad and I didn't have the balls to tell my mom until about a week before we were moving and my mom and I just cried and cried and cried the night before I left.

Now we made up for it because we bought a house in the same neighborhood I grew up in. I have somewhere around 60 relatives within a 2 mile radius. It's a blessing and a curse. No, it really is just a curse.

At the very least, you'll have a little pile of genetic material you can train to fetch beer.

My wife thinks I joke about that.

Parents can be really selfish and spiteful sometimes. I think it's wonderful and as long as you're excited, congratulations.

Wait, how are you going to finish grad school if you're moving to Hawaii? Are you almost done? I'm sure that was taken into consideration.

The vote of un-confidence seems pretty typical for a mother-daughter relationship, from everything I've seen. At least it's coming from a place of concern and is well-meaning?

I think the whole thing sounds like a cool experience. I bet it'll be neat to shake things up and do something sudden and kind of scary. If you go in with the right attitude, I can't see any way that it won't be a worthwhile experience, even if you ultimately decide it's not for you.

The University of Hawaii has a similar program, and my credits will transfer, if I decide to finish with the MBA program. It really sort of depends on what I end up doing over there. Business is not my dream profession, honestly, but it may be what I'm stuck with now!

Yeah... She was beside herself when I went three hours to college, and I was home all the time. She hated my boyfriend in college because I would've moved to Memphis, which was four hours away. I have talked myself out of ever moving out of state because I knew she would react this way. But **** it, I can't live my life to make her happy. If I wait until she dies to move away, I won't be young enough to enjoy it!

I have to say, I have been pretty discouraged because of all of the negativity I'm getting from my group of friends and family, but I know that once I get past these next few months and actually get out there, it'll be exciting. Smiley: smile

Your mother is human too. She feels jealousy, resentment, bitterness, and abandonment. She's behaving a bit immaturely but really, most parents have trouble accepting that their children are individuals with choices. When I moved 3.5hrs away to Minneapolis, my dad called me and gave me a brutal telephone call while I was driving and I was sobbing so hard I had to pull over. He mostly used my grandmother to make me feel guilty, but it was obviously his own feelings of fear and separation anxiety fueling his cruel words.

Well that's good that those credits can transfer. I've seemed to notice all of people going for the MBA. It's not for me...
