I wonder if anyone else here cares that Atlanta is moving to Winnipeg. Regardless, I care so this is thread worthy.

**** Atlanta and non-hockey markets. Phoenix is next when it moves to Quebec City.

I'll give Winnipeg $20 to take the whole state and not just the hockey team.

Winnipeg is a **** hole( if its not, then they're in desperate need of some quality marketing). The arena is too small. The weather sucks ***. This team is going to be very dependent on excellent drafting and on their farm team developing talent, because quality FA signings are going to be tough. As well, its such a small market that many players can kiss quality endorsements goodbye.

All true.

On the plus side, an NHL player in a hockey market will live like a rock-star.

Winnipeg's arena is not as large as others but it has been consistently rated among the top arenas. It's a very nice arena if not huge. And it's actually a very nice city. Smiley: madSmiley: madSmiley: mad

Hey, I gave the city a chance by saying you need to market it better.

And the arena is still too small.

we don't seem to have a problem using it.

One of the great things about the arena is that even the bad seats are decent. With the larger arena's you don't get that.

Also Winnipeg's capacity without any additional work is higher then the attendance for 26% of the NHL

Can't be as bad as Citi Field.

By virtue of not hosting Mets games.

That doesn't help them when there's a good team in town and they need to sell more seats to make up for the bad teams. They'll be fine for the first few years, but they'll need a consistent winner to make it work past that.

I just hope that they get the Jets name back, my parents grew up going to Jets games and I went to a Jets game long before I went to any Oilers games out here in Edmonton. I agree that it will be a tough run like ugly thinks, their work really only just started when they got the move sort of ironed out, they need to sell a significant portion of those 13,000 season tickets plans they are trying to push. Then they need to turn a team that has traditionally never made it to the play offs (except that one time they lost to the Rangers in the first round or something) into a team that is marketable and will sell seats and merchandise. It's not gonna be an easy ride but if they keep the Jets name, and play on the current popularity of their resurgence they should be able to ride out a few years on ticket sales to build a team.

I certainly hope they give them the "Jets" back. Getting really tired of keeping up on the names with the teams moving around.

damn you Dallas, damn you to Hell!

It's not that they need to 'give them' the name, the new owners need to want to name the team the Jets. The name is there for the taking.

If they don't take it, it will be the worst marketing fail since the DVD rewinder.

Hey, Atlanta is more than just a Delta hub. It's a vibrant metropolis, the equal of Paris or New York.

About the only thing I'll miss is watching the Thrashers practice while I eat pub food after a skating session at the Duluth Ice Forum.

I wonder what they'll do with the second rink there now?

Nothing. It'll go to waste like everything else hockey related in Atlanta.

Well, Winnipeg is at least showing strong support for the team to start. Season tickers sold out in 17 minutes after going on sale to the general public. Hopefully, they'll keep it up after 5 more years of owning a losing franchise.

Waterproof the sides, fill it halfway and make it into a swimming pool for midget synchronized swimming teams.
