Let it be known: I have the market cornered on foodstuffs infested by granular material around here. That is all.

That raises an interesting point. The sand is in fact inside the gum, whilst the ash is only "on" the tomatoes. Can one consider a tomatoe infested by granular material if said granular material has not in point of fact penetrated the surface of the fruit?

I'd like to add the aspect that ash isn't really granular, in my opinion, but more of a powdery form, which defeats the point of this whole debate.

I suppose it depends on the material really. For instance, Volcanic ash, such as what we have laying all over the place around here from the Mount Saint Helens eruption in 1980 is really gritty, almost like sand. Wood ash, is much more powdery. I suppose we'll need clarfication as to the exact source of the ash, as well as temperature of conversion to ash, moisture content of the pre ash material, atmospheric moisture content on that day, barometric pressure, etc. to really make a sound determination.

You're taking it all too literally Kaolian, rather it is an allegory.

Either way, sand or ash in your food is never that good.

I find that a healthy dose of carbon and silica in my diet enables me to consume larger quantities of alcohol as well as digest foodstuffs better.
