Looks like Ronald is about to be fired. I remember him being around since I was a kid.

I don't know what it's like down there in ****** up land, but up here, Ronald is irrelevant. McDonald's is marketing to kids through Happy Meal toys and Playlands. Any group advocating to get rid of Ronald is just attacking clowns.

Quick, spread a rumor that Ronald is Republican and the crazies will go out of their ways to defend him.

Really...? :(

Anyway, Ronald really hasn't been in the commercials in forever, has he? Like Grimace and the Hamburgaler, who just sort of disappeared. And the weird bird lady with aviation goggles on her head...

The only times I see him are in commercials for the charity.

I think she sold apple pies. Or represented apple pies. Which sounds kind of weird. "Order! Order! The representative of the apple pies will take the floor..."

I have no idea what a kid's McD's commercial is like these days because I don't watch children's television and I assume they show different commercials on Cartoon Network at 1pm than they do on FX at 9:30pm.

I think they trot him out at Christmas sometimes, too.

I remember when McDonald's had big plastic statues of their characters in or near the play area. I'm not even sure there are pictures of them in there anymore.

Most commercials I see of McDonald's these days are them trying to project being healthier with their salads and smoothies and such.

They still have the best fries of the major fast food chains, imo.

At some college computers, the search bar only has Bing for me. If I plan on making more than two or three searches on a computer, I install and switch to Google, but that's what it defaults to and if I'm exceptionally lazy I just go with it.

Few things on this earth annoy me more than a Bing link that just takes you to a "search results" page.

@#%^ that search engine.

Derail time!

Here's my experience with Bing. Back before we all learned how terrible FFXIV was going to be, I wanted to play it. I had read about an official benchmark program, and decided to download it. For whatever reason I had bing up as a search engine. Several search results came up saying "FINAL FANTASY ONLINE OFFICIAL BENCHMARK" or some such, and I downloaded the first one after hardly looking at it. Installed it, started running it... and was amazed! I was hitting MUCH higher than topics online suggested I would. At the same time, I felt like the game looked kinda familiar...

Yeah, it was FFXI's benchmark. Sigh.

Went back to the search engine, made sure I put in FFXIV, searched again. Out of the results on the first two pages, not a single one was for the FFXIV benchmark. Went to Google, ran the same thing... bam. First result. Swore off Bing and have never gone back to it.

/derail

Also, why would someone link to a search instead of an article? Sigh.

The only searches one should link to (except sometimes Google image searches) are ones here.

Also, is it just me or are naked links just ugly? If you can't use the forum's feature, at least use a URL shortener...

I'll continue this tag-team derail:

That "link to search" thing is the way that Bing does a lot of their integration with sites. My IE (which I almost never use) homepage is set to some MSNBC top stories page. Half of their "article" links just take you to Bing searches. You click an article link that seems to be describing a story, and instead, it just takes you to a Bing search that might not even have article described in sight. It's incredibly frustrating.

From time to time, I also find them "seeding" articles with random links. You've probably seen it: random words in the article are hyperlink text that bring up previews of Bing searches or physically open up a Bing search when your mouse goes over them. It's a technique that I was only used to seeing in spyware/virus-y pop-up sites. But these were all cross-promotional things for Bing.

Yeah, but I'm used to tying stuff into the search bar and I'm lazy enough to go with whatever if some search result page answering my question is already up.

They had Ronald commercials as late as maybe about half a year ago during that approximate time on that channel.
