The other day, a co-worker of mine was telling me about someone who insisted on calling everyone sir, even women. I laughed, and said it sounded like Marcy and Pepperment Patty. She gave me this look and said, "Who...?" I asked her, "Didn't you watch 'Peanuts' as a kid??" She didn't know what that was. "You know, Charlie Brown...? Snoopy??"

Her answer was, "Oh. Yeah, not much."

What is this world coming to...?

I only ever got to watch holiday specials of Peanuts. Was there an actual regular show at one point?

Huh, that's weird.

Actually, it's really popular amongst parents today in the upper class in Germany, to show their children. I guess that means it's in the second generation already, but I still know it and my parents haven't even heard of Monty Python...

No, but there were more than just the holiday specials. It seems like "Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown" was always on TV at somet point.

Well, if you didn't smack her then the world is becoming way too passive.

Now I feel old because I used to read it daily in the comics and check the collections out of my school library as a kid.

Didn't the strip end in the late 90's though? I don't think it was too long ago.

Schultz died in 2000 and various syndicates continued running back strips for years after.

I really meant the mindset that Peanuts was something you "watched" rather than "read" when the TV shows only barely scratched the surface.

I'm 26, and I associate the name with the strip foremost. Yeah, doubt I'm the norm though. I think it's because the strip was mildly amusing to me, while I never really saw the draw of the specials. Still don't get the nostalgia about them, really.

Meh, the neighbour girl at my grandparents' house liked Anime but refused to read Manga because, y'know, that requires reading words, and that's so much effort! Who ever would do something like that?

True, but she's not really the kind of chick who would've read the funnies as a kid.

They are no Calvin and Hobbes, but Peanuts is a funny comic sometimes.

I'm almost as old as Belkira and I wouldn't have been able to tell you the character's names. I probably would have known it was the lesbian chicks from Peanuts, but like the person she was talking to, it just wasn't something I was into when I was younger. For example, every Halloween when I was younger, there were two cartoon specials that were always one, the Charlie Brown Halloween thingie, and The Halloween Tree. I much preferred to watch The Halloween Tree.
