Yay for vacations...Follow

#1 Apr 20 2011 at 1:44 PM Rating: Good
This Friday is "Good Friday," so we have the day off work. Yay!

Next week, I have taken a week off to do some spring cleaning, landscaping, and drinking, uh, I mean relaxing. And my niece will be born on April 28th, which is exciting and we were to journey to East Tennessee to visit her in her swaddling glory and bring gifts of gold, Frankincense, and myhrr.

Yesterday and today, I have woken up with a horrible sore throat and I can't stop coughing. I'm coughing so much, it's giving me a headache. My nose is running, my head feels like it's stuffed with cotton balls, and I'm afraid I'm running a low grade fever.

Stoopid immune system.

I don't have the day off on Friday :(

But do enjoy the mass drinking! God knows I could use that myself after being sick.

I do have the day off on Friday, but only because I took this week off to do some fishing. Sadly the weather hasn't really been cooperating and I've done more gaming than fishing. Oh well, I'm going to a concert on Friday, so there's that.

My mum tends to fall ill around vacation time because it throws her off to not go to work.

I don't keep the fish, I just harass them a bit for my personal amusement.

My regular scheduled days off are this Friday and Saturday. I have to work easter.
I suspect I'll be called in early at least once this week most likely on easter
to cover for the people that call in on the Holiday and yet the place never enforces
the rules about it. According to policy if you call in on a Holiday your supposed to
be disciplined up to being fired.

I can't wait for next Friday at 4:30PM. We'll be wrapping up our training to train others in Medicaid, SSI, and Foodstamps, and a few other smaller state entitlement programs. Then I start nine days off. I applied for a state job last week for an income maintenance enrollment specialist position, we'll see what happens. Unfortunately, a lot of county workers applied for these positions as well since there are big changes on the horizon with our awesome Governor. Smiley: rolleyes

Wish me luck.

Jesus Belki, bad timing.

Are you one of those people who immediately gets sick at the start of every holiday, because your body finally says: "thank God, I can finally collapse now"?

Not usually, but I know something like that happened this time. As soon as I got home from work yesterday, I started running a fever and my cough got so much worse. I feel like death today. :(

My husband is happy, though. I can't hardly talk at all... ;)

OK fever treatable symptom...doctor time. I don't like going to the doctor (I know, funny considering what I do for a living those you who know me) but treatable symptoms are still treatable (especially with a vacation looming). Hot honey with lemon for your voice. Don't whisper makes it worse.

* eta feel better soon! So glad that my week was over, was still in work mode... Sorry!

23rd is St. George's day, yus. I don't much go in for that either. Nationalism seems a very silly notion to me these days. I'm all for celebrating one's heritage and all, but days like St. George's day seem to make the worst of people come out. I'm referring to chavs, of course.

It's okay to celebrate St Patrick's day, at least! The Irish are so much cooler, anyway. Being Irish is instant win at life, even if it means you have to grow up in Limerick.

Well that's why I celebrate at least. The majority of my family is Irish. I don't mind people celebrating, but I don't think you deserve a bank holiday just for being English/Irish/Welsh/whatever.

Which part of St.Patrick's is cooler, the drinking or the fighting?

I know you're quite Irish for an English person.

Just don't tell my friend Corynne, she hates when non-Irish people go on about their Irish ancestors.
When we were at the pub, there was this girl who told me she was half Irish and then when Corynne came to the pub repeated the same thing and I totally knew what her reaction would be and it was so adorable. She's cute when she's cross. Actually she's always cute. Mmmh.

But yeah, nationality shouldn't be as important as it is, as long as you don't step on someone's feet it's fine. Or... I don't know. Cultural differences are cool.

People have a very visceral reaction to perceived mimics to their prescribed ingroups. It's very interesting.

It seems they feel they own that particular label and feel threatened by it's appropriation by others, as if it will lose it's special status. It also breeds resentment in the outgroup. This dynamic is where I find people are most unconsciously vicious. Did I mention it's quite interesting? I've deciphered some of the base triggers, and evolutionary necessities, but I'm missing more than a few of them.

I think this should be our new discussion topic.
