You ever wake up(not necessarily wake up for me because I have been up all night) and feel like you could conquer the world? It might be the massive amounts of coffee I have been slamming all night(3 pots since midnight) but I feel really good. It has been awhile since I have felt this good. I hope everyone is having a spectacular day!

Heh, that's crazy. Any time I've ever pulled an all-nighter, I've felt pretty much the exact opposite of that. I get physically ill (like nausea and dizziness) and I can't focus or think to save my life. Sleep deprivation sucks. Since college, I've done my best to avoid it.

Can't do coffee or typical energy drinks either (nervous energy), though 5-hour energy seems to work pretty well now for the nights when I only get 4-ish hours of sleep.

My wife hates that I can live on four hours of sleep a day as long as I'm drinking coffee regularly the other twenty hours.

I hate to sleep, there are much better things I could be doing. It doesn't have to be coffee for me, just some form of caffeine. Coffee, tea, and Mountain Dew are my favorites.

Mountain Dew has Caffiene? Far out.

Maybe MD is different in the states? Over here it is a clear, fizzy, sweet drink. Like lemonade without the lemon flavour.

In the states it's not clear it's yellowish, and it tastes like watered down battery acid with sugar added to it.

Not an actual bottle from here, but the color and sentiment behind it is correct.

Just wiki'd Mountain Dew and the Energy line sold in the U.K. is supposed to be based off a stronger version of the U.S. MD formula. You may want to check the shops in your area to see if they import it.

Quote:
A new line of Mountain Dew released in the U.K. in June, 2010, originally in 500ml bottles but as of February 2011 it has expanded to 440ml cans (Normal and sugar free)and also 1 Litre bottles. Mountain Dew Energy is due to be released in Ireland sometime in early 2011. Produced in lemon and lime flavors, it has higher contents of caffeine than Mountain Dew sold in the U.S., and is sweetened with real sugar. Mountain Dew did initially launch in the U.K. and Ireland in 1996; however it was discontinued in 1998 due to low sales volumes at that time.[4] Mountain Dew energy has been designed specifically for periods of mental and physical exertion, just like the original Mountain Dew distributed in the US. This temporarily aids mental alertness when feeling fatigued being particularly popular with 16-24 year olds.

Caffeine has absolutely no effect on me. I can drink coffee, soda, whatever right before bed and still fall asleep just fine.

I use to be able to do that because my body had built up such a tolerance for it. I took a 2mo break from any sort of caffeinated products and now, it hits me like a ton of bricks. Very busy bricks that kinda leave you shaking a bit in the fingers and unable to sleep.

Your a caffeine addict! I bet if you go three days without it you will have the shakes. I had a friend that
drank like a twelve pack a day. When he stopped he had the shakes and got really sick for a couple of days.

I am an addict. I know this. That 2mo was complete hell. For the first week, I had headaches, shakes, irritability, fatigue, etc... But, I found out the caffeine was not causing my insomnia and now it has me in it's deadly clutches again. I don't think I have the will power to go on another no-caffeine binge.

How are the grommits?

Suki is 2 1/2 and Tyler is 1 1/2. Both are very active, loving, confident kiddos. Suki is discovering a love for dance classes and Tyler is surprisingly verbal (he will tell me "More juice pweeze mama" - Suki didn't really start doing that till she was 2)

Tyler developed seizures and is on keppra now. He is doing well; we have no idea whats causing them other than my craptastic genetics (I had epilepsy from 1-17)

We took them to Disneyworld during my spring break (Magic Kingdom, Epcot & Animal Kingdom) and were surprised at how well they handled the road trip. We included stops in Pensacola FL to see friends and a stop over in La Place, LA (because on the way back everything was booked from Pensacola to New Orleans due to conventions). We did a swamp tour there and Suki got to pet a baby gator while Tyler napped through it all..heh

They are best buddies and the worst enemies. One minute its all hugs & cuddles, playing together and the next it's a brawl over a juice cup...

How are you doing?? How is your health?

/forgot
Tyler is a total Mama's boy and now will only fall asleep if he is using my boobs as a pillow XD He will even poke them , turn to his daddy and say "me!"

As a matter of fact, I have a one year old daughter. Smiley: laugh

I guess I can say I've been training for this my whole life.

Hahahaha. Smart kid, he knows he's got a rival for his favourite place.

Sorry to hear about the seizures. I have read in New Scientist that a researcher has found a strong link between epilepsy and over-heating of certain parts of the brain. If you can keep an epileptic's head cool you can drastically decrease the incidence of seizures. For example they should only wash their hair in cold water, etc. I read this a while ago, so details slip. Maybe you could find something more out there on epilepsy and temperature. It might be possible to shorten a seizure by pouring cold water on the back of his head. Maybe???

initially he only got the febrile and those were triggered by his temp hitting 102. The dr prescribed valium to give him when he had a fever to prevent seizures (combined with the motrin tylenol tepid baths). Then he had a seizure without a fever and has been on keppra 2x bid =/

it could be worse. I don't know what his trigger is but it isn't flashing lights (that was what triggered mine..anything from a strobe to just driving through a shady patch on a sunny day)

Febrile seizures are completely normal (well, maybe not NORMAL per se, but not harmful), and rarely if ever do doctors even prescribe something for it. Typically they just treat the fever instead. If it's more than that (which, given your history, it might be; however, I don't know the genetics of epilepsy), then at least there are excellent drugs out there which can make epileptic disorders very manageable. The biggest problem people have is when they stop taking their medication because they stopped having seizures and thought they were cured (I have known more than one person to do this). As long as you make sure to stick with the treatment, risk of recurrence is very low.

Now that I have a pretty lax schedule I stay up for 40ish hour intervals regularly. Two 5-hour Power shots spaced out keeps me wired until the fatigue starts to feel euphoric. I hate sleeping. I REALLY want to attempt a polyphasic cycle where I nap 20 minutes every 4 hours, but I just haven't for no particular reason.

ETA: I hadn't read the thread on polyphasic cycles before posting this.
