If you did something and every time you did that something, you got a negative reaction, would you or would you not learn not to do that something anymore? And would that or would that not be some sort of conditioning?

For example: If you came to your husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend about why you were upset and they got mad at you every time you came to them with those feelings, would you stop telling them when you got upset just to avoid the drama? Say they would get mad if you didn't tell them, but they get mad when you told them? What would you do?

Yes, your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife is no longer approaching you about their feelings because you got pissed at them every time they tried to open up to you about how they felt. He/She is really upset at you, but will no longer tell you because you just get mad.

And your assumptions are way off.

Are they just gonna get grumpy, or are they gonna start throwing bowls and shoes at me?

Either way, I probably wouldn't stop.

Keep it all bottled up so one day, it comes to a complete eruption and you go on a murdering spree.

Why wait? Just go on the spree now, it's very relaxing.

Send them a text message with the details in it. Text messages solve all relationship problems.

Now now, Kaolian doesn't need a personal spellchecker for every one of his posts, though it would be an easy way to pad one's post count.

As far as your example goes, it really depends on what you're talking about here. If you're talking about telling them that you're upset with them, and they always got mad, I would approach them one day while we weren't fighting and ask if I was approaching them in a way that puts them on the defensive and work on how I told them that I was upset about something. If, on the other hand, any time I was upset about anything (having to do with them or not), I'd probably just leave.

Well, that was going to be my new strategy to get my +1s in for the day, but you just had to go and ruin it.

As with Pavlov's tests. If you get a huge shock every time you poke your hand into a hole in the wall. Soon you'll not want to do that. Now go stick your head into the same hole a few times.

If you give more details I can fix all your problems.

I'm not over-promising to hear relationship problem stories either.

**** no, they should be changing for me. If they don't like it they'd better learn to like it.

Okay, **** hypotheticals. Here is what's going on. Occasionally, my husband will do things to **** me off. I try to sit down and talk to him about why I am upset. He makes me feels like the reasons I am upset are stupid or silly and he gets pissed off at me that I am upset. I have made the decision not to talk to him about why I am upset anymore and he told me that he would get pissed at me if I stopped talking to him about these things. I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. I would rather not talk to him because when he gets pissed off at me he makes me feel like ****. I would rather just avoid all the drama.

I'm more of a face-to-face type person. I believe in sitting down and talking things through in a calm and logical manner.
