Few weeks ago I got the flu (or cold, I don't really know). Fever lasted a day, then a dry cough lasted about two weeks. Last weekend I was feeling better, hardly no cough, then suddenly I wake up last Saturday and my throat feels rough. And now my cough is back, but is a wet cough. No other symptoms, but the cough that was going away turns into an annoying wet cough.

Never had a cough last this long.

It's either AIDs or cancer. It's most likely not lupus though, so there's that.

I second that prognosis.

By wet, I assume you mean productive (produces sputum). What color is it?

Yes, and it's clear.

Well, it's not another infection then probably. Likely just your lungs producing extra stuff as an after-effect, it should go away in a few days. Still sucks though, that happens to me about twice a year. :(

The DR at the ER told us that the flu that is going around right now, the cough can last up to several months. Sorry you have that! Get some nice medicated cough meds like we did!

It hit here pretty bad 2-3 weeks ago. One day about 14 people on first shift took the day off due to illness. The few that went to the doctors got diagnosed with bronchitis.

Sometimes a cough is more than just a cold. It can be caused by allergies. I have a dry hack that never goes away. The doctor told me it's because of acid reflux. It's not going to go away ever. I love getting old.

Did he prescribe you something for the acid reflux? Because if you keep the acid down, the cough should go away too.

I'd say since the flu was going around, and I got the flu, and now have a persistent cough, that the two are most likely related.

I saw my Grandmother today (she's an RN) at my brother's birthday party, and she heard me cough. She started getting all worried. I told her I wasn't worried since I wasn't running a fever or having trouble breathing, etc. But the anniversary of my uncle's death just passed, and he died at 29 years old from a respiratory infection he left unchecked. Eventually his airways swelled up, and he couldn't breath. Then he went into cardiac arrest, and died from it.

I'm not worried though, if it gets bad I will get it checked, but right now I feel fine besides the cough.
